Re: Arturia V Collection 6

It’s rather surprising in relative terms, Piet. It’s obviously not going to replace Vintage D or probably even Pianoteq, but in terms of where it was and where it is now, it is a marked improvement to my ears. Some of the presets are going to be right at home in a pop or rock production, where you s...

Re: Arturia V Collection 6

Just wanted to add that I’ve had a few minutes to play around with the v3 upgrade of Analog Lab, which I keep getting for free due to having bought controllers from Arturia. Very nice. They’ve managed to make it clean and simple, with tons of useful presets begging to be tweaked. If it’s any indicat...

Re: VSL Synchron Strings I

Seems like I can work - but it doesn't seem to jump out as being worth it. Might be one of those things where the library takes a little know-how and the early demos aren't really an indicator of the potential. Might also just be a weaker library for the synchron series - which will work if the oth...

Where is that “meh” button when you need one...?

Edit: not impressed by the sound, compositions are fine.

Re: Arturia V Collection 6

Thanks for that, Guy. Yes, Repro is a beast that puts a smile on my face. Some of the UVI stuff is great, the UVS3200 comes to mind, along with their Synthex, though it is all based on samples and so besides tweaking the existing presets, there is not much one can do from scratch. That’s why I’m hop...

Re: Arturia V Collection 6

Oh oh, hugely tempted for the first time on this. The new additions look good, and I don’t remember their pianos sounding this good before... Just purchased their MatrixBrute a couple of weeks ago and must say, I am liking Arturia more and more as a company, especially with their ideas on the hardwa...

Re: Embertone Joshua Bell violin

Thanks Jason. Good explanation. Certainly, you are right about how far these Vln VI's have come. In addition to the high believability of the Bohemian, the greatest appeal lies in its ability to take that responsibility away from the VI performer. This is a great feat and for me, often times a drawb...

Re: Embertone Joshua Bell violin

Thanks for the comprehensive first impression Jason, really great rundown! I was an early adopter of the Violin (still waiting for the Cello to have that same fluidity). I'm cringing at the idea of buying yet another Violin, despite its apparent pedigree. Problem for me with the Bohemian as it is no...

Re: Fiedler Audio / Stage (placement and stereo-toolkit plugin)

The pricing is geared towards postpro studios, not composers. We'll have to see if Spat revolution offers added value for composers over Spat. The good thing is that Spat Revolution may push prices down for second hand Spat licenses. But then again it's not like that it's impossible to get perfectl...

Re: Fiedler Audio / Stage (placement and stereo-toolkit plugin)

Even with a 35% discount for existing owners it would cost $1163. I'm going to wait and see for a few months. Maybe the good folks at DontCrack will have a permanent discount going by then, like for most Flux products. Or maybe end-of-year-tax-purchase... I am too weak.

Re: Auddict releases "United Strings Of Europe"

Four more audio examples. No processing on any of these examples, everything you hear comes straight out of Kontakt. The only thing I did, was turn the reverb down, so as to better be able hear what the naked samples sound like. (Besides, the reverb in this library is just the standard Kontakt reve...

Re: Cinematique Instruments / Grand Harp

Yes it's strange there have been a lot of new harp VIs but not one has copied Spitfire's idea of a "slid" articulation. The Spitfire harp is still #1 for glissandos because they actually sampled how the string would be played (more like brushed) inside the context of a gliss. With this, y...

Re: LiquidSonics’ Seventh Heaven Professional - Bricasti M7 reverbs

Actually Piet, I agree completely. When JSB sent me the files, he asked for my opinion before posting, and I focused on the differences, trying to identify the character of each reverb. However, once that was over, it was immediately clear that there are far more important elements that need to be a...

Re: LiquidSonics’ Seventh Heaven Professional - Bricasti M7 reverbs

I don't have permission to post the files here, but I did post them over on VI-C for a comparison between the hardware M7 and 7th Heaven (still can't get used to typing that name). I apologize if it's bad form to crosslink but I thought this would be interesting for anyone who is in the market for e...

I can only speak for True Strike 2 and Action Strikes. I've written a fair amount of the music you're talking about, and between those two I would pick Action Strikes. There's a large collection of instruments and ensembles and it generally sounds quite good. If you need more punch, you can dial it ...

Thank you Paul, that's very kind of you. The people involved all care deeply about getting things right. I admit to the third one being my favorite of late as well, though I would still like to change soooo much of the music, hopefully for the better!

Wanted: Sound Designer and Mixer for Book Trailer

For the past three trailers in a book series, I've been doing the music and all has been well, except that we never could find a reliable sound designer/mixer to work with. This is a NYT best-selling series for Young Adults, and the fourth book is slated to come out this summer. The trailer for the ...

Yes, I agree on the licensing. I think UVI has followed suit with that as well, providing three licenses and being able to authorize to a machine as well. I'm hoping others will see the light too, it would make having separate setups easier (can you tell I often forget my iLok when moving between h...

Re: iZotope RX6 - Released

That's very impressive stuff, Guy. On a slightly different note, some might remember my quest for an audio editor a while back (the search went on for a long time until I compromised and settled). I've just been notified by iZotope that since I bought the RX plugin pack in March, I get a free update...

Re: LiquidSonics’ Seventh Heaven Professional - Bricasti M7 reverbs

I was on the beta testing team for this and I really like it. Pretty light on cpu and has a much better browser than Reverberate 2 (more like slate's Verbsuite classics) and uses the same principles as those as far as its IR's go. The big thing with this is that it enables you manipulate the IR's a...

Re: LiquidSonics’ Seventh Heaven Professional - Bricasti M7 reverbs

So I'm guessing these are the same impulse responses with Fusion IR that are present in Reverbarate 2? I couldn't find info on this, but it makes sense. I've been using R2 for several months and quite like the M7 impulses, but find the GUI of R2 far too fiddly for my needs. On the other hand I feel ...

Didn't occur to me to point that out about the installation, so thanks indeed, Paul. I'll add that once you're in Kontakt, it's not the regular 12 Horn patch you want to load, rather scroll down to a separate folder that contains the new patches.

Thanks for pointing this out, Guy. Jumped on this as I'm very fond of Cinebrass. Nice to see their porting their adaptive legato to this. I just tried it out on a piece in progress with mixed legato requirements, and while it's an improvement, it's doesn't quite do it for me. I'll have to spend a li...
