Re: Spitfire Albion ONE 10th anniversary update

I honestly haven't noticed anything phasey about the percussion Paul - I see there's new mixes there though so maybe they've tweaked something. FWIW neither the woods or especially brass thrill me, ONE is all about the strings for me. I can't really compare to any of your libs Paul - my set are LASS...

Re: Spitfire Albion ONE 10th anniversary update

I'm not quite sure Larry, it's free for ONE owners, and just noticed its also discounted for new customers too (added to the OP) - does anyone know about an upgrade from 1? If it were £99 I'd say that was definitely worth it. Really do love the strings in ONE - buttery but a nice bite and huge range...

CineBrass Core: 1.7 update with Trombone legato

https://hollywoodscoring.box.com/shared/static/n68lorbcr7wj2k3vmbs90x1tbd40m77r.png It's always nice to see a very old product updated for free with new content. Trombone Ensemble Legato has been conspicuous by its absence since day one, so good to see it finally appear: CINESAMPLES’ ADAPTIVE LEGAT...

Re: Introducing Red Room Audio and the "Palette" Orchestral Series, plus a freebie!

A new name in the industry! Probably worth adding the short trailer too, for a quick overview: https://youtu.be/7QICTH3vc6o I guess Sketchpad puts it up against Symphobia / Orchestral Essentials 1, Albion ONE and Tutti, each with various plusses and minuses. The trailer sounds impressive, but overal...

Re: Arturia V Collection 6

Not even CLOSE to a virtual piano? As a self-confessed non-pianophile my thoughts are to be a taken with a sack of salt (I'm not even playing on a weighted keyboard), but sheesh. I wouldn't be in the slightest surprised if when you try it you are underwhelmed Piet, but there are definitely pianos wi...

Re: Arturia V Collection 6

Spent a little time today with Analog Lab 3. I dunno.... the new stuff didn't really light my fire. The hardware DX7 has its place but its never been my favourite sound by any means and FM8 has me covered for when I do. The Fairlight seems riddled with clicky loop points (presumably period accurate ...

Re: VSL Synchron Strings I

It was all going quite well until 2'18 (on the strings only track). Fair play, Guy and VSL didn't go the easy route for a flattering demo. As ever with Guy its an interesting composition but based on this I'm not really sure what the library really adds to what is already out there. Could be my conf...

Re: Hollywood Choirs

The modwheel switches between dynamic layers and increases/decreases vibrato, although there is not that much vibrato since a poll of Classical composers apparently didn't want it and that is how EW decided to go. http://www.talkclassical.com/13016-vibrato-straight-tone-choral.html. Oh, that IS int...

Re: Hollywood Choirs

Just catching up... Kyle, it's pretty unhelpful imo to say that Jay's A/B is worthless, it clearly isn't. Obviously it shows the spatial difference, and that Hollywood Choirs is much more present especially in the sopranos and altos, but perhaps most significantly there's a lot more vibrato with SC ...

Re: Arturia V Collection 6

It depends what you're after really Jay. u-he really are the masters of exact specific details of a model. And with repro-1 / 5, they are just gorgeously rich. But of course that's just one model of one synth. Personally I don't so much care that its an exact emulation, but I do care that is sounds ...

Re: Arturia V Collection 6

Yes, I have v5 and it's largely pretty good. Much has been made of their analogue emulations not being up to, say, u-he standards and it's true there's a difference, but its not always in-your-face apparent. There's a richness about repro-1 and 5 that Arturia don't quite nail along with the precise ...

Re: Hollywood Choirs

It does look nice, but the fact that EW are now I believe the only company that charge for the sample player itself (as opposed to a full sampler), the backlash will be loud and inevitable. Count yourself lucky you don't work for them any more, Jay!

Re: Steinberg Festive Countdown

I'd be surprised if any deal on the advent calendar improves on the crossgrade deal, which is a very good one. The likes of 30% off Halion, which we had a couple of days ago, is the kind of relatively minor deal I'd expect. Cubase only has OMF in / out, not AAF, but even if it did I don't think I'd ...
