Re: Hollywood Strings 2
Surprisingly vintage sounding. Like a cross between the old LASS and VSL libraries. The original announcement video sounds quite bad but the walk through is better. In many places it doesn't even sound like strings anymore! I doubt it will be useful as a stand-alone. A detail and colour obsessed pro...

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Percussion
Tanuj-I assume you bought the Pro? Yes, I got the pro. The core version has one mic position and less number of instruments and for many people that will be useful. The premixes sound good too but I usually need to make adjustments. I am already using the library in a project right now and reached ...

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Percussion
My suspicion was right - it sounds fantastic! It's a massive improvement on an already good sounding library. The cymbals, snares, gran casa are much better now and brings it all into 2024 nicely. The Timpani is amazing and it will replace my existing samples immediately. The tremolos sound good too...

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Percussion
I might pick it up today. I LOVE true strike and I have never purchased another orchestral percussion library since 2005, except for the update. But of course I need to hear the demos/walkthrough. Incredibly excited because it’s going to be much better than true strike as the library shows its age i...

Re: Abbey Road Orchestra - Violins 1 announced
I have just seen Blake's video and it sounds to me like the best Spitfire library in a long time (orchestral). It is only violins 1 but I will be getting it for sure. It may retire CSS and Berlin for me, especially once the other sections are released. I actually think this is rather special. It see...

Re: Abbey Road Orchestra - Violins 1 announced
I think that it was just a quick and joyous playback of an in development library. There has been a slight overreaction in my opinion. I am sure that the final version will sound much better than this as it’s obviously not finished. But it does seem to have the big ‘roomy’ Abbey Road sound which is ...

Re: Cinesamples Industry Brass and Musio subscription platform inc "Lifetime license"
First the fake-mistake sale, now a "lifetime subscription". Sounds like a cash grab to me. Buyer very beware. I must admit the same thought had occurred to me. It’s pretty odd when you think about it - they’re giving away everything they have ever done or ever will do for $499. CinePerc’s...

Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra Strings
I don’t think having developers aggressively defend their products from peoples’ opinions is a thing we want to have here. Key word “aggressively.” Hi Larry! hope you are well! Agreed and I was not referring to Nick's post specifically. I read a question somewhere above about whether developers wer...

Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra Strings
Just to add here - Developers are in fact welcome here. There never was a policy to discourage or not have developers on TSB. We only ask them to refrain from very commercially driven posts. At the same time, we do welcome posts from developers talking about their projects in a way that would perhap...

Re: Waves go subscription only
Not surprised with the sudden shift and I don’t like their business practices. I only bought a few waves plug-ins some years ago and had since decided never to buy them again because of license issues, pricing disasters all over the place and paid upgrades for plugins that were in fact not upgraded ...

Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra Strings
I think this will be very useful for lots of film and TV composers around the world because there are a lot of 'Fantasy' films, tv shows and games being made. Composers are always looking for new samples as using the same samples gets boring. It also allows for good writing tools to get the mock-ups...

Re: Another new noise reduction miracle
Thanks for sharing all of that Guy. I am a bit startled by the strides AI has made with sound in the last few years. This could potentially kill RX in a very short time as it learns from each file uploaded to its servers. Google has made public Music LM - https://google-research.github.io/seanet/mus...

Re: sonicPlanet's "Creation" / sound design
I watched a couple of the videos you posted Piet - looks similar to 'Dust' from Soundmorph. I was not taken by the sound of it but I will revisit again sometime later. Looks like a useful tool for generative sounds that you can then integrate into a piece of music. Took me back to the days when I us...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings
Almost any library from Jasper is very useful for composers who dive very deep into programming. It is a collector item and a very useful tool in the kit. I don’t think any of his libraries have been ‘complete’ solutions. Not until recently anyway as he is expanding into more complete standard libra...

Universal Audio running a sale on their new Spark (Native) Subscription: https://spark.uaudio.com/ For new UAD customers it's 99 cents for 3 months. Some really nice plugins there, including newly released Hitsville which I have just listened to - it sounds great! I might look back into Universal Au...

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note
Tanuj - I've spent years fighting the horror that is Waves Central. It was a horrendous piece of software. But over the last year I have to say every single thing I've done with it has been seamless. It just works in the way it never did. It's kept all my old v9 licenses intact too, which I need fo...

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note
I can’t say that I would recommend buying any waves plugins. Their whole scheme makes no sense to me. They sell many plugins at extremely low prices and then ask for money to update it. Licensing also doesn’t work very well and I just don’t like their waves licensing system. It’s not smooth and intu...

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note
Trackspacer is useful for many other things besides vocals, Tanuj. In any situation where you have to temporarily make room for something by suppressing something else, or when you want to avoid ugly build-ups of frequencies, Trackspacer is the tool to reach for. Yes, you can get equally satisfying...

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note
Thanks for posting about Wavesfactory. Spectre and Tape sound really, really good. Going to get these.
I am a little confused about Track Spacer and trying to think of applications outside of vocals but I am going to spend some time today to demo it and learn about it in detail.

Re: UAD Spark - no hardware, but…
This is a good decision over all. Not many people will buy their hardware in the future. My guess is sales are down. Now it depends on how quickly they can pivot to the native world and eventually just rely on the strength of their plugins and not worrying about the SHARC DSP's. That is done with it...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)
Malachistos - I opted out of their emails quite some time ago! And I agree on the rebows, I thought the same thing in the hairpin demo. It sounds great but is timed, so not really that useful. Tanuj - you don't think tonally this and CineStrings are pretty similar on the basis of that little test? ...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)
I don't think this library is comparable to Berlin or Cinestrings etc. This is in direct competition with Con Moto series from Jasper Blunk. In fact, I would argue that he has caused quite a serious dent in the strings marketplace along with CSS which is a wonderful library but sometimes lacks the s...
