Re: Hollywood Strings 2

Nothing really. It's just that I cleaned house, rather thoroughly, when switching and anything that hadn't seen much use during the months/years leading up to the switch, didn't get transferred to the new Mac. (For those not understanding where this comes from: I deleted an earlier post in which I m...

Re: L. A. Modern Percussion - $60 at Pulse Audio

I don’t write much music that needs orchestral percussion — in fact, if I’m honest, I don’t like orchestral percussion all that much (nor music that relies heavily on it, a few early 20th century exceptions notwithstanding) — but if I were, I wouldn’t hesitate about this deal.

Re: Prime Studio RAVENSCROFT 220 VI

Mmm. Interesting. But not an instant or obvious purchase based on the material I Iistened to. There’s a kind of glassy clangy-ness (or clangy glassiness) in many of the demos (at least in the ones I picked, randomly) and that’s not a piano sound I like very much. There are also quite a few presets a...

Orchestral Tools / Benjamin Wallfish Strings

Orchestral Tools have released Benjamin Wallfish Strings , a massive strings library in two parts (1) the Strings (cinematic ensembles and divisi) and (2) Stringscapes ("equal parts string performances and multi-layered sound-design"). The Strings require 1072gig of HD space, the Scapes ne...

Rather nice, unassuming little reverb: Nepenthe , from Amalgamated Signals. "Nepenthe's algorithm is based on the concept of velvet noise. Rather than building echoes with a network of delay lines, it uses a predetermined set of randomly-generated echoes. This is a very simple design, which wor...

Re: Arturia V Collection X

Low-ball all you want, Guy, cause you’re perfectly right of course. I bow my head in shame for having hucknalled this thread. Still, in my defense, it’s about that piano part, not about the band or the track. It’s that type of piano part to which a CP70 brings something that no other piano or pianoï...

Re: Orange Tree / Flute Flight (sampled flute foursome)

Very unappealing and unexciting all around, I agree. The attacks, the transitions, the sustains, the vibrato, the overal timbres, ... none of it sounds good. (The demos have a strange pre-21st century aroma as well, I find.) I actually have a hard time believing this is a genuine Orange Tree library...

Re: Incirios announcement - a new sampler and audio engine

Nice piece, Linos. (It does however expose, and quite noticeably too, the one big problem I have with the Incirios Clarinet — and with several other sampled clarinets and wind instruments as well, for that matter —, which is that, during expressively shaped sustains, it often sounds like two instrum...

Like ‘em a lot. Now, these being part sampled part modeled, you can always point at various details — an odd attack here, a slightly peculiar sample there, a not entirely convincing transition somewhere else, … — that could be improved, but, to me, the award-worthy success of these instruments is be...

Re: Audio Ollie Nashville Scoring Strings - $60 sale

Linos, if you're still hoping to give the Nashvilles the jobs for which you find the Dimension Strings wanting, I have a feeling you might not be any too pleased either. While I agree that the Dimensions can, timbrally speaking, be something of an acquired taste, they far exceed the Nashvilles in po...

Bought it this morning. 56 euros, I mean, that's a momma-weer-all-creezie-now -price, isn't it? And I don't have the template problem, because I don't do templates. Haven't dived deep into it yet, but first impressions, after a quick try-out of some of the patches, are, on the whole, quite positive....

At the time, I toyed with the idea of purchasing the Nashvilles for precisely the same reason. But I didn't go ahead with it either.
