Re: Brusfri - Noice Reducer plug-in

Perhaps my expectations were on the high side, but I will be sticking with my current tools for the time being.

If one is just starting out with noise reduction tools this might be a good starting point - if the demands on the tool are modest.

Re: Brusfri - Noice Reducer plug-in

A pretty impressive demo - especially since they don't pretend to make the noise disappear. I think I need to give this a try.

Re: Newfangled Audio - Elevate: "Mastering Limiter with a Brain"

Multi-band dynamics processors are pigs - there is that<G>! The optimal number??? Geez, I don't know, I do quite well with three or four most of the time, but the temptation to have more (and finer) control is tempting. Really tempting! My machine finds this plugin to be a bit of a resource hog, so ...

Re: Newfangled Audio - Elevate: "Mastering Limiter with a Brain"

I've been playing with the demo - this is the first multi-band limiter that has grabbed my attention in a long time. I'm a big fan of filtered dynamics processors, the Ozone Multi-band compressor is probably my favorite, and the Waves L-whichever is a close second - or was. I don't need any more plu...

Re: UVI Falcon: 30% off, 2 free expansions and $100 of UVI libraries

I'm right there with you on this one - it looks cool, lots of folks like it a lot, and yet I just can't build up the head of steam necessary to make the investment, not so much financial as temporal.

So I'll be watching!

Re: iZotope O8N2: Ozone 8 Neutron 2

Tried the Neutron thing but not really sure that I like that someone else is coloring my tracks. My ears, good or bad, are what's gotten me this far. Like to mix with them and not with someone else or with my eyes. Guess I'm a dinosaur in that way. Could not have said it better, and I guess that ma...

Re: iZotope O8N2: Ozone 8 Neutron 2

On the topic of biases, I don't think there are any. I think there are more people who are making purchasing decisions about libraries than there are people making purchasing decisions about plugins or platforms, and that will lead to more posts (pro and con) and more noise with respect to libraries...

ok, digging through the couch cushions NOW!

The demos are remarkable, this will be a very nice addition to my other oddball piano libraries! Not sure how you did it, but it is different enough from the others to be a worthwhile purchase!

Well done!!

Re: iZotope Spire Studio - portable hardware mic / recorder

I haven't looked in detail (and yes lots if marketing blah from izotope (they seem to be on a serious drive these days with offers (I succumbed recently to the cheap elements bundle))), but superficially there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between this and the excellent Zoom portable recorde...

Re: iZotope Spire Studio - portable hardware mic / recorder

I disagree on almost everything there, Bill. I don't know if you're an RX user, but that is simply in a class of its own, and on each release they innovate - something completely new to restoration. Daily I can work miracles I never dreamed of a few years ago. If I only had one plugin for PT, it wo...

Re: iZotope Spire Studio - portable hardware mic / recorder

I hate to sound like a grumpy old man - but I do not see this as a step forward for serious recording, and I really wish they would stop with some of their over-the-top marketing. I get it that they are passionate about audio. They are, I've met several of the folks who built the company, lost a fri...

Some Good News from NYC

The Power Station, aka Avatar Studios was one of the last purpose built, large space commercial recording studios in New York City. That alone is pretty scary. And then recently there was talk of shutting it down - there is just no way to keep it commercially viable. Still, it would be a huge loss! ...

Re: Goodbye, Walter. And thank you for all the music

I've been a fan of Steely Dan, and Walter Becker, for a very long time. I first heard tracks from "Can't Buy A Thrill" on the local "underground" FM and immediately started saving my pennies. I think I purchased every album within weeks of release. I spent some time trying to lea...

Re: PSP / Nexcellence Spring Reverb

It is a bit tricky isn't it? But it has a sound I really can't dial up in any of my other reverb plugins either. And I like the sound, or rather I like where the sound is going. I own all of the other PSP effects, many of which live in my templates, and all of which get used often enough that I don'...

Re: Fiedler Audio / Stage (placement and stereo-toolkit plugin)

Thanks Tack, I had forgotten about EAReverb2. I tried an earlier version, and at the time I much preferred VSS. I've just downloaded the current EAReverb demo and I will spend some time with it. $100 for the upgrade to VSS2, $150 for EAReverb2, and frankly at that point they are roughly the same fin...

Re: Fiedler Audio / Stage (placement and stereo-toolkit plugin)

The IRCAM tools are remarkable. They are also way out of my price range. I have Virtual SoundStage version 1, and I do use it for placement, sometimes. Version 2 is much easier to use, but I haven't made the upgrade yet. i don't expect it to sound as good, or work as well, as SPLAT, but I don't find...

Re: Toontrack Superior Drummer 3

There are a couple of workflow things that look attractive, and GM is one of my heroes, but I just don't see enough - that would be useful to me - to make the investment worthwhile. No complaint about the price mind you - that's a pretty good deal for that many drum sounds, but I'm really happy with...

every once in a while a sound set comes along that justifies - or nearly justifies the purchase of an engine. I have several of their libraries, and they get used quite frequently. They are interesting and really well done. I'm going to grab Xtended Piano this time around! I don't remember them having sales, not sure I've had a chance to take advantage of a sale there, but I am today!
