Re: Orchestral Tools: Tom Holkenborg's Percussion

Developers like Eric Persing and Alex Walbank are celebrities to me, and I don't mean that ironically. Eric's work has been a part of my career since the beginning, and the first time I saw him at NAMM I was already in hero worship mode. Same with Nick Phoenix back in the day.

Re: Orchestral Tools: Tom Holkenborg's Percussion

This is why I deleted my first post in this thread. I got a bit angry and forgot that you can't write negative things about products in forums. You must be silent if you don't like something. I'm not capable of understanding what he was doing with this library, right? Explaining what an ethnic inst...

Re: Orchestral Tools: Tom Holkenborg's Percussion

IMO, there’s nothing wrong with it and it’s not a bad price, but it doesn’t do anything for me that Soundiron’s APE doesn’t (along with a few ancillary pounding drum libraries.)

Ditto that. Never heard of any of those guys.

My wife watched British murder mysteries. We each had our own tvs :)

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)

Thanks, Larry. And: no problem. I'm pretty confused myself, you know. Only a year ago, I would have bought a library like the Elite's, warts and all, in a heartbeat. And be reasonably satisfied with it, I suppose. Because, on paper, this is the sort of library I've been hoping someone would release...

Piet,

Happy upcoming bday. I guess where I got confused was:

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)

Intreresting to me when two musicians I have DEEP respect for disagree so completely (Piet and Jack, in this case.)

It indicates to me that there is a degree of subjectivity as to which sample sets “speak” to you and which don’t. For example, I’ve always gotten on with LASS and so many haven’t.

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

I really think the only way I'd do this deal is by renting a few months of Composer Cloud. At the present sale price of $20 per month, a two or three month subscription seems like a no brainer to me. Biggest drawbacks would be the time it takes to download, install and learn-plus yet another SSD. Y...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

I might have missed it, but as they were clicking through horns on the walkthrough, I didn't see a solo. Might have just missed it.

EW has made major money from me over the years, but nothing recently. They may have hooked me back in.

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition

Ditto that, Guy. Both the sound and the one finger composer, which you can customize and use in your own way. Haven't ever considered Composer Cloud, might now, although it's hard to trust EW to make a user friendly interface. Are some solo instruments missing? Or did I see it incorrectly and it's a...

Re: Orchestral Tools Rotary: Free Big Band Horns

“The day we get a full list of articulations including legato for a Big Band Library for free is the day when every sane developer just calls it a day, so zero complaints from me on that score.” For clarity’s sake, I have zero complaints as well, but I have no use case for Rotary either. I would thi...

Re: Orchestral Tools Rotary: Free Big Band Horns

That may have to be the way it is, Piet. I put them on a different drive. The only way I can get them to play is to type "Rotary" into the search engine-then all the patches appear. Sort of silly system of location but I'm sure it could be worked out by putting everything in one folder. Th...

Re: Spitfire / Mrs Mills piano

I have the Cinesamples collection, and I'm disappointed to say that the Spitfire Mrs Mills sounds better. I'm happy with the Challen, but the upper range of the Spitfire Mrs Mills sounds better and overall, the piano is full of life.

Disappointed because-apparently I must have my precioussssss.

Re: Spectrasonics Bob Moog Tribute Library v2 RELEASED

I bought the first Moog set for Omni 1 and besides enjoying it, I was really happy to contribute to such a worthy project. Unfortunately, I’m still on Omni 1 and have yet to pick up Keyscape. I think the latter is higher on my wish list.

Re: Lou Ottens (1926-2021)

Fascinating history lesson. I knew nothing about him and owe him quite a debt...R.I.P.

I was a recording musician by the mid 70s, but my first personal studio was a Foster 4 track cassette recorder, and it was a major step for me.

Re: Steinberg to drop the dongle

I think the reason VSL is probably doing it is that (I believe) eLicenser is Steinberg tech and Steinberg's going to kill it. Indeed - it was quite the co-incidence that both these announcements came on the same day, wasn't it? Here's the most recent list I could find of companies using eLicenser, ...

Re: Steinberg to drop the dongle

WOW. This is some majorly major news. Personally, I haven't been bothered by elicenser or iLok going back many years-but I've never bought protection for either, so this move by Steinberg will remove some nervousness. VSL-depends-will they keep the same policy of making you pay through the nose for ...

Re: G-Force / OB-E (Oberheim emulation)

OB-8 was the last one (it went OB-X, OB-Xa, OB-8). OB-X produced between 1979 and 1981. OB-Xa produced between 1981 and 1982. OB-8 produced between 1983 and 1985. Ah, right. I got it confused with the OB-X. My X-a was part of “The System”- a hardware drum machine and sequencer, connected by two wid...

Re: G-Force / OB-E (Oberheim emulation)

ALL of that said-I recently bought Re-Pro and have barely delved into it except to see if it matched the hype, and it does-sounds great. The fact that it's in such light use though indicates that spending close to $200 on the OB-E is a bit of a stretch, much as I'd like to support GForce. So odd, b...

Re: G-Force / OB-E (Oberheim emulation)

Somewhat OT but not completely- I loved my OBX-a. It was one of the most career supporting pieces of kit I ever owned, got me in a lot of doors. I got the sample based free emulation from (IK?) and it was extremely disappointing, but well worth the price. I bought the gforce M-Tron on CD ROM at a NA...
