Re: CineSamples CineBrass 12 Horns - update, new product and offer
Thanks for pointing this out, Guy. Jumped on this as I'm very fond of Cinebrass. Nice to see their porting their adaptive legato to this. I just tried it out on a piece in progress with mixed legato requirements, and while it's an improvement, it's doesn't quite do it for me. I'll have to spend a li...

Re: SPAT 2 announced
Update from NAMM: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kt0L53ZuBo It's called Spat Revolution and lives outside of the DAW. Looks like it's ticking boxes so far. My main question would regard instances: will one be able to open more than one instance if several different spaces are required (pop/conventio...

Re: New FabFilter Plugin Coming November 15th
Good overview. I like it a lot on short ambiences/decay. There's something about the density of the longer tails that puts me off though. It doesn't seem quite as smooth as I expected. The ability to manipulate the exact frequency though, brilliant.

Re: VSL release Solo Violin 2 and Solo Cello 2
Positively underwhelmed by this, unfortunately. There's something about that tone and some of those transitions that sounds quite artificial to my ears. Though I can't get myself to pull the trigger on either Emotional Cello or especially the Sample Modeling effort, for similar reasons. Chris Hein h...

Re: SPAT 2 announced
It seems to me, from my limited information based on the one screenshot, that they may have gone the route of VSS2 in regards to the way inputs are handled. Meaning you add the plugin on each channel you want to be able to affect. I have not tried Sample Grabber, and as such can't comment on it, but...

Re: SPAT 2 announced
Apologies Jack, what I meant is that it should undoubtedly sound better than VSS2, which I like, but once used on multiple sources, starts coloring the sound negatively. Flux hasn't said anything about the sound of SPAT2. Based on the original SPAT, I'm just making the assumption that it will sound ...

SPAT 2 announced
Looks like it's taking a more "familiar" approach to the interface design. Reminiscent of Virtual SoundStage 2, though undoubtedly should sound better. Really looking forward to this (!) and hopefully to an implementation of multiple sources that doesn't require surround setup in the DAW. ...

Re: iZotope Neutrino - Free Spectral Shaping plugin
I agree. Held off after listening (with prompts), trying to figure out exactly what it did that I could not do with fader movement or using the Clariphonic. But hey, it is free.

Re: Nugen A/B Assist - free plugin
Magic AB is meant to compare your current mix to other source material. At least in my use, I haven't come across any AB functionality in regards to plugins. If you have a trick up your sleeve, I'd be curious to know Jason. Edit - I'm guessing you're talking about bouncing different chains and impor...

Re: NuGen's MasterCheck / mastering for the internet
Another thing to keep in mind is that so far, Nugen has catered to the postproduction/
broadcasting sector. I'd consider this their strength. Maybe their online tools are not yet as mature as needed, but I have no doubt that they will get there, and rather quickly too.

Re: Vir2 Aeris / Hybrid Choir Designer
I was mildly excited when I watched the teaser walk-through, but as it progressed, it lost appeal fast. It's nice to have sound design capabilities but if that's what I'm going for, I probably won't start with a choir in the first place, rather a synth.

Re: Arturia V Collection 5
Looks and sounds very nice, instant nostalgia! For as much as I want to like Arturia's products, and I have a few, both hardware and software, I must admit to being a bit underwhelmed by their stability on my system, and by their build quality. Reminds me a little of French cars in the 80's. Great e...

Re: Flux:: / BitterSweet Pro v3 (Transient Designer)
Yikes! I did the demo and then forget and never tried it. Hate to waste $100 but there's nothing better out there should I just go for it? The example video was really good but you never know. Sonnox has something similar called ENVOLUTION https://www.sonnox.com/plugin/oxford-envolution . However, ...

Re: Wanted: Mastering engineer for a film score
Haven't used them personally, but if budget is not an issue, you might consider Lurssen Mastering, where Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen do this sort of thing all year round. They are really well-known around town. https://lurssenmastering.com

Re: Eventide Black Hole Plugin $49 @ JRR
Larry, not too bad. I'm running a 12-core MacPro 5,1 @ 3.06 and adding four of these in a row on the same track, besides producing a quite interesting sound (!), doesn't seem particularly taxing in my CPU meter. A very scientific method of testing, I know...

Re: Eventide Black Hole Plugin $49 @ JRR
Finally had some time to play with this and I'm happy with the purchase. Barely loaded, with the default preset, and I immediately used it on a piano piece - it changed the whole mood of the intro with its beautifully long tail, making it a different and more interesting piece. Thanks to everyone wh...

Re: Eventide Black Hole Plugin $49 @ JRR
Thanks for the feedback Guy. I can't even tell you off the top of my head what I have, but to my recollection, only Sparkverb is capable of some of those long effect tails - maybe UltraVerb, don't remember. Most are for quality tails rather than effects. Good sell though on your part. I'm picking it...

Re: Your Holiday Hauls
Good going kpc, Magic A/B should prove very useful: it has been for me. This was an easier Black Friday than last year for me: AriaSounds Silk Piano, NI Action Strikes, Project Bravo, CineString Runs, CineOrch, TSAR-1R and a TEC Breath Bite Wind Controller. Think I'm done for the year. Will just del...
