Re: JXL Brass - Orchestral Tools
I'm going to clean my ears now. Also throw the iPad out with the bathwater. In one way though I'm very happy, don't need to get JXLB. Edit: listening back on proper speakers, I'm very surprised at how much better I like the first example. They're exchangeable for the passage, sure, but overall that ...

Re: JXL Brass - Orchestral Tools
I’d peg them exact opposite, though I’m listening on an iPad. First one sounds very even at soft dynamic, crescendos very well through the layers, and has a nice overall warmth in the middle range. That's exactly why I think it's CSB. :) (Maybe I was ambiguous in my earlier post. I meant that I tho...

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon
Awesome overview, Matthias, thank you. One other aspect touched upon by the creators is the ability to reassign parts played in with an ensemble patch to single instruments. This requires internal re-routing of course, but it does seem like a hugely useful and time saving feature when on a deadline....

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon
Good ideas there, Guy. Get in touch with the team at some point, they specifically state they want to hear from (potential) users to improve the software, as long as it's feasible as a feature of course. Piet , I would agree that in your case it would be a tougher "sell." It sounds to me l...

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon
Don’t want to spam the thread, but here’s the answer copied from their post On VIC (strings are at the bottom, clever solution): ‘’ You’re listening to a 32-track template with the following VIs. Positioning is done using Eareckon Eareverb 2 (ERs) and Altiverb TODD AO (Tail). All nextmidi teasers ha...

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon
Totally understand, and unless they make templates readily available, I think a lot of “pros” will feel the same. If anyone decides to test it, it would be lovely if they would report back to this thread for an update.

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon
And for everyone anxious to find out what sounds were used in the teaser, this is straight from their FAQ: ‘’What sounds did I hear in the teaser videos? The teaser video featured Peter’s personal orchestral template which he built to work with Divisimate. It features a mixture of libraries by Audio...

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon
This looks really clever, solving an age-old workflow problem under deadline stress. Love the idea and the execution. Caveat for Logic users is that it likely requires slight fiddling in the environment, since we can’t have multiple input devices for various tracks, but even with 16 tracks limitatio...

Re: Orchestral Tools moves away from Kontakt!
After giving this some more thought, I would love to see a slightly different implementation of the mic mix feature. I would love for the feature to be temporarily stored into RAM (sort of a freeze function) as opposed to immediately written to disk, while at the same time purging the now unused mic...

Re: JXL Brass - Orchestral Tools
Good summary there, Noam, and I agree with what you said. I’d also add that I wasn’t always convinced by the transitions I heard and felt that the reflections, upon accumulation of mic positions, were fluttering to the opposite side too prominently. I reckon this is just what happens with the acoust...

Re: Orchestral Tools moves away from Kontakt!
Right, it’s just like a mic mix: your personal mic mix.
Tangent: Do you use the discrete mic positions in CSS/CSB while you’re synthestrating?

Re: Orchestral Tools moves away from Kontakt!
The way I picture mixdown to disk working is that I would futz around with one section (e.g. horns) until I get the exact sound I want, then mixdown the horns, then load the trumpets and mix them down, etc across the sections. You don't have to load an entire template's worth of the entire library ...

Re: ProjectSAM Symphobia 4: Pandora released
And Cinesamples has had it in their string runs since its debut. Though limited, I bought both Cinesamples string runs and woodwind runs a good while ago. As long as you don’t overuse them, they’re fabulous accents, nicely recorded, reasonably priced. Sync is great. Yeah, same here. They get reason...

Re: ProjectSAM Symphobia 4: Pandora released
Yes, from what I’ve seen in your lovely walkthrough that is indeed the case. Was just commenting on where I’d seen the idea executed first. ProjectSam seem to have done an outstanding job, even if I’m unlikely to ever own this particular library.

Re: Performance Samples: Pre-Black Friday Sale
Much the same experience here: Fluid Shorts I is simply not the sound I’m after and amazingly, the spiccati from Sonic Implants still do a better job. Caspian is great in theory and very playable, but again, once I’m in the orchestration it often gets thrown out for something that fits better sonica...

Re: Kush change copy protection and Clariphonic Sale
By the way, Kush has an overview sheet of the hardware unit here: https://www.thehouseofkush.com/products/clariphonic-ms
and the cheatsheet attached below is based on that overview, slightly more practical for me. Might be useful to anyone who has shoddy memory like mine...!

Re: Kush change copy protection and Clariphonic Sale
I love Pro-Q3, it’s great for surgical work. The Clariphonic is modeled after a hardware unit and is a Parallel Mastering EQ. I think of it more in terms of a “character” device. Its bands are fixed with the express purpose of brightening/heightening clarity and it does just that in a way that is ve...
