Re: Lou Ottens (1926-2021)

Big influence! My sister got a Phillips Cassette Recorder in the early 70s and I remember the whole family talking about "that little thing" where all the music fits on! When I got my own one a few years later the journey started: I recorded all main themes from TV films and series holding...

Re: G-Force / OB-E (Oberheim emulation)

For my taste the OB-E is the best of the Oberheim plugins. I really love the Oberheim sound and so I got the Arturias, Diva, and Synapse. Different modeled models though... just my fun factor experience of a few hours.

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

From the Spitfire website: Abbey Road One: Orchestral Foundations is the first in a series of Film Scoring Selections recorded in Studio One. The next titles in this symphonic series will arrive early 2021. These will be smaller, more focused libraries inspired by classic films – offering pre-orches...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra

I think this Rite of Spring mockup shows the weakness of Spitfire libraries in general: the problem of never getting convincing melodic lines. It's obvious in the first bar and doesn't get better... probably... I couldn't listen through the track. When you are used to VSL's evenness and playability ...

Re: Spitfire Albion NEO

I like the idea of the strings A and B section. If the ensemble was spread out into per-instrument sections it would have been interesting. Now it's just again another nice poly-keyboard library. I think their next step should be a hardware keyboard with all this pad and texture stuff built in and a...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra

Did you listen to the walkthrough, Saxer? Yepp. But I can‘t say that the short noodling in the videos is telling me a lot about the possibilities and usefulness of the library. But when I compare the demos of Andy, Homay and Luke I hear a lot of dynamic variety. I think it‘s a good allrounder for t...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra

I often work as a team member with a composer. I do orchestration, co-composing, additional cues, orchestral parts added to synth backings and things like that. We also had additional orchestrators when there's less time and enough budget. I made a VSL special edition template for compatibility in a...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra

I think they are just still working on the (string) legatos. Nice to have a "performance legato" but I think it's a hard thing to do with all the balancing of different attacks, transitions, releases and shorts overlays. And all that over a bunch of mic-settings and all sections. Time cons...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra

The most popular superstition in sample world is the existence of a balanced template where you just have to fill notes and it will sound like a good orchestral mix. It's simply not the way it works. It doesn't even work inside a pre-mixed virtual acoustic drum kit. I think the real magic is to imag...

No. I just know I will order it anyway and when it's out I don't have to think about that money anymore.

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra

My impression is that the Spitfire Sampler libraries (EW Choir, HZ Strings and Labs) have less problems than their Kontakt libraries (but that might...

This is a simpatico way of starting projects! And the world (at least my world) needs more chamber libraries.

Re: Spitfire Audio Albion 2: Loegria retired and 50% off

I don't have a problem if they develop their libraries or change their formats... like Sable to Chamber... and I don't really have a problem if they take money when they add new content. Nobody is forced to follow. But: until today I couldn't find any benefit of Albion ONE over Albion 1.

Re: Omnisphere 2.6 announced

The original MS-20 was actually my first synth in the eighties too. At that time the main job of synths was what samplers do today: trying to emulate real instruments. When people was listening to synths in music at that time the standard question was: And what instrument shall that be? If the answe...

• Korg MS-20i I didn't expect Spectrasonics to add the MS-20i because it's no longer manufactured for years. This is really great! I already have one of those too. This will be big fun! The original Korg soft-MS20 is really dated and my MS-20i keeps it's miserable existence as an articulation switc...
