Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon

...and one more thought. On the issue of the Strings demo that we all fell in love with... what it seems to come down to really is layering Mural (or other nice ensemble library) with three instances of Audio Modelling solo strings in the right proportions. Is that it? That was my reading of it. I'...

Re: Orchestral Tools moves away from Kontakt!

Being able to fully purge will be a nice enhancement, but IMO SINE has enough new innovations and what appears to be a nicely functional UI with proper multi-timbral support that it can be forgiven. Unlike some other recently released sample player alternatives :) I wonder what the memory footprint ...

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon

For logical or emotional reasons? I don't currently own any iThings, and I'm not about to buy replacement iThings for perfectly good products I already own (computer, laptop, tablet, phone). :) I have generally avoided the Apple ecosystem just because their philosophy doesn't meld well with me. Som...

Re: Orchestral Tools moves away from Kontakt!

Interesting! What would be the correct name for the specific Kontakt interpretation? I think Kontakt does just call it "background loading" (to refer to sample preload not blocking the UI) and "purged" (to refer to even sample-start data being streamed direct-from-disk). And bec...

Re: Frozen Plain moves away from Kontakt

EDIT: or, in other words, exactly like Kontakt (UI appears immediately when loading, SINE loads preload into RAM), sans the purge, where it will unload the preload and only load it again when a particular sample is needed. That is a very tricky thing and I hope it can come in the future. Missed thi...

Re: Frozen Plain moves away from Kontakt

Of course it does! But it loads the start of the samples into memory when loading an instrument, not when playing the first note (as Kontakt can do). Gotcha. So it blocks the main thread while the sample-start data is loaded in memory? Kontakt will load this in the background without blocking. This...

Re: Frozen Plain moves away from Kontakt

It would be great to have samples only load when actually played (provided the drive is fast enough), but that probably has to wait for a future version and seems pretty tricky. Does that mean SINE doesn't do any DFD (direct-from-disk) reading of samples? It must, surely, otherwise the memory consu...

Re: Frozen Plain moves away from Kontakt

What do you mean by background loading? Generally it means, during patch load, doing as little as possible while blocking the main thread, and as much as possible asynchronously in a way that doesn't block the user's ability to use their DAW or even the patch. (Often that means doing the work in an...

Re: Frozen Plain moves away from Kontakt

I understand this trend, but I wonder about the long term impact on performance. For example, the Bohemian instruments on UVI are sssooooooooo sllllooowwwwww to load compared with even my heaviest Kontakt instruments. I haven't tried Spitfire's new player myself, but I've read about complaints relat...

Re: Black Friday 2019

I bought Echoboy, which at $49 was finally cheap enough to justify. (I have UVI Relayer which I really like, but Echoboy did a couple things Relayer doesn't. How could I bear to live without cross feedback!) I also bought the Bohemian Cello after I realized none of the celli I had could come remotel...

I'll update the OP with the free-with-purchase instead.

Re: RME Babyface Pro FS

I love my current Babyface Pro, and I've been contemplating a new interface for my piano area which currently uses a FastTrack C400, which while ok really isn't all that it might be in terms of stability. It's difficult to justify such an expensive interface, but they're so damn good I'm tempted by ...

Pinch hitting for Guy this year, who reliably and generously has managed this in the past. Thanks Guy! Below is a list of noteworthy Black Friday deals. I don't see it. Spitfire's stuff hasn't been around nearly long enough to have made a financial impact to NI. And Kontakt is just one part if NI's business.

Re: NI lays off over 200 employees

I've gone through this type of thing professionally. It's a tough environment to work in. Reading through the Glassdoor reviews, lack of confidence in senior leadership is a running theme. This is a common reaction when there are multiple rounds of layoffs, because apart from the psychological weigh...
