Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

Oh, it has no intelligent separation of chords? Shame. So called polyphonic legato makes absolutely no sense, as the controller data for one line would never be the same as for another. If it was, it would just sound blocky. For staccato lines with a traditional sample library one can get away with...

Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

I only want to control one thing when composing (leaving aside vibrato if necessary), just leaving any volume riding for the mix stage (and then using audio faders not CC - I don't go near CC7 or CC11). So if that's how SM rolls, I'm delighted. The remapping of CC11 is very easy, will take around 5...

I think that SM is also set up that way, but you can re-map the CC to any that you prefer.

Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

Huh, is that so? That's encouraging. But how about CC1? That's my brain-hardwired velocity control (by which I mean intensity of playing, not volume), while Expression I always have equated purely to volume. Is the terminology different in Sample Modelling land? Intensity of playing and volume are ...

Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

One thing that's always been offputting is the sheer number of CCs and keyswitches - open question - how manageable is this now in v3? I don't use any KS at all. The main CC that you need to tweak all the time is the Expression, be it CC2 or CC11. You don't really need to do anything else at all. A...

Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

tack, having heard my demo are you still feeling that the distance knob does nothing? I didn't say it did nothing, I just said I couldn't hear a difference with respect to the breathy sound at the lower dynamics, which finds its way through my reverb, compared to a straight volume adjustment. Ah, I...

Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

jiggery pokery! That's a good share of every day here. jiggery-pokery = deceitful or dishonest behaviour??? If you're living in the 19th Century....! These days it usually means messing around that is either nonsense or a waste of time. Obviously some Americans think differently, but as they someti...

Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

...should the SM brass be on my "get next" list? It really depends on your reason for buying it. Where SM excels is solos with nuance and expression. Where it is more difficult is for loud ensemble type playing (think 8 horn patches) whilst certainly it can do some of this, it won't work ...

Re: Sample Modeling / French Horn & Tuba v3

I loved The Trumpet from the beginning, but other than less phasing (which is great) what do you love about 3.0? Do you find the spatialization to be really helpful? v3 is basically a one stop shop. There is a fantastic algorithm that means the 3 Trumpet patch works really well without any jiggery ...

I'm hoping to have time to d/l the update later this week. However, if it is anything like The Trumpet v3, I'm sure it is fantastic.

Looks to me like it's taking away all the fun. To me, at the moment, all those video is show that someone who has no compositional ability can somehow power though by using the computer as a kind of craft enhancer. However I don't really understand how it would work, because anyone with any craft at...
