Re: Kunst Audio / Expressive Violin

Are you involved with this, Linos? No, I have no affiliation whatsoever with Kunst Audio. Just thought I'd drop it here, as it's always nice to see new developers emerge. To be honest, I don't like what I hear in the demos. I don't like the sound of the violin, don't like the one-dimensionality of ...

Re: Spitfire Audio / ARO Thematic Horns

Got it, thanks. I haven't listened to the walkthrough yet. The two demo pieces definitely feature more dynamic layers. Paul Thomson's piece starts at a cautious forte dynamic, Dan Keen's at a mezzoforte layer turned down to piano. Makes me assume that the short articulations have more dynamic layers...

Re: Spitfire Audio / ARO Thematic Horns

Where did you read that Guy? If it's true then this library is more a proof-of-concept for the modular Abbey Roads range than the 'fully-fledged, stand-alone library' they are selling it as. The horn has the widest timbral range in the orchestra. One dynamic layer only is but a tiny snapshot of all ...

Re: Izotope everything bundle for 199$

So then it wasn't intentional. I hope they don't revoke your deal Laura. I added the bundle to my shopping cart yesterday. It's still there today. Not sure I want to buy though. I don't use Ozone 8 as often as I thought I would. Melodyne Essentials could be handy. Not sure about Neutron 4. All the r...

Izotope everything bundle for 199$

It looks like Izotope botched an upgrade sale, so that anybody can buy a loyalty bundle, no matter if they own the qualifying product or not. https://www.izotope.com/en/shop/paid-loyalty-deals-2.html? I don't know what happens if you buy the bundle without owning the necessary product. If you are in...

Re: Any Plugin Alliance product $30.99 this weekend

Metric A/B looks useful. And, if you don't already have it, I can recommend DSM V3. That's a unique plugin alright, and a powerful tool to have. It takes some time to learn though.

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread

That's true. If you can get Century Brass or Strings at 150 bucks, or even lower, they are good value. The problem with 8dio is that there are a lot of bad libraries. Really bad ones. And a few good ones too. If you buy from 8dio, it's a lot of miss, with a sparse few hits. That's not exactly good g...

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread

Guy is absolutely right Geoff. I too own a few 8dio libraries, and I use none of them. Some are outright broken. The 8dioboe for instance. Others are better. The Century Series is decently consistent, and among their best libraries. Still, it's far from essential. It does nothing that other librarie...

Re: Cinesamples Industry Brass and Musio subscription platform

Guy, if you scroll down a bit from the top of the page, on the left side you'll find the text 'What instruments are in Musio?' with a link to a pdf. The pdf is truncated thoug. Everything above 'bassoon' is cut, so we only get to see what percussion instruments are included. You'd think for major re...

Re: Spitfire APEX sale / 50% off

Thank you for your kind words Jay! Regarding pre-orchestrated samples I am in the same camp as most here, apparently. I sketch with paper and pencil, then orchestrate in Sibelius, and create the mockup as the final step from the score. Working like this, pre-orchestrated libraries or phrase librarie...

Re: Spitfire APEX sale / 50% off

What you describe as “3D” though, I don’t hear as 3D. I hear it as more restrained, or as you describe it homogenized, less in your face. In that way BBC is indeed more concert hall like than film score soundstage like. I do think that with messing with the mic choices and reverb choices the Cinema...

Re: Spitfire APEX sale / 50% off

Thank you Jay. It would be an interesting exercise for sure. It's not a comparison with the Hollywood Orchestra, but this video shows what I like about BBCSO pretty well, compared to the Cinematic Studio Series: https://youtu.be/eUkG4XZ4Vyo?t=78 I really like the cohesive 3d sound of the BBCSO versi...

Re: Spitfire APEX sale / 50% off

2. No other library I have can provide the depth and 3d-ish concert hall sound quite like BBCSO. But you only get that once you blend several of its instruments and sections. 1.True of every single orchestral samples library in existence :) 2. I only have the Discover version, but if the is true mo...

Re: Spitfire APEX sale / 50% off

Rob, in my opinion BBCSO is a very good library indeed. Just not for all purposes. I think it will be important to know what it does and doesn't do to inform your upgrading decision. Piet's distinct assessment 'good, but not great' hits the nail on the head for the way he used the library. Single in...

Re: Elicenser Discontinued Jan 1 2022

Yes, the dots don't seem to work, nor are they necessary. Why not just send the email when the conversion is ready? All in all, the conversion was smooth for me. I was dreading a redo of my templates, or having to point all instances to the new libraries locations. That would have taken a lot of tim...

What about Vienna Instruments pro? Is the pro player being discontinued or does every user get it now? In my list of products, VIpro is marked red (will not be transferrable to iLok). Also, on the product page it seems you can no longer buy it. Did I miss something about that? You and me both. Also...

Re: Orchestral Cover Rights

Worked in a field where this was daily business. You always need permission to perform, or arrange any music that is under copyright in your country. Rules vary depending on the country. 75 years after the death of the author/composer is quite common. But as said, it varies. Within that timeframe, y...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)

Sonokinetic released Sordino Strings to go with their new Orchestral Strings library. It's 'only' sustains with and without vibrato, and staccato. Plus sforzando and fortepiano. With Sonokinetic's clever engine in the back, there's quite a lot you can do with these articulations. These sordino strin...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)

Rather wet, yes. I found a balance that I like at the moment, with the tree mic and the close mics a good bit quieter. Dry and intimate is not what these strings are about though. Not even for the smaller divisi section, which is close to chamber strings size (7-5-4-4-3). Found some quirks and bugs ...
