Re: Modartt / Pianoteq v7
Just upgraded. You know, the new NY Steinway D is pretty good. Apart from the Bluethner, it could be the only other model I get along with (especially with a good reverb). Looking forward to playing more with it tonight. Not completely devoid of the usual Pianoteq "plastic" criticism but i...

Re: Kontakt 6.3.0 released
I have a Gigabit connection to the Internet and routinely download at 100MB/s, but this 585MB version of Kontakt will take me 33 minutes to download via Native Access. Sigh.

Re: NI to no longer allow registration of legacy products [NOW FIXED]
It's hard to avoid the phrase "software piracy" just because it's so ubiquitous with a well understood meaning. And I don't get a sense of minimization about "piracy" vs "theft." In fact, I seem to recall the term originally being used as a hyperbole to elicit a more gr...

Re: The Nemeio customisable keyboard
I'm running Stream Deck software 4.5.1 (not the latest) and "MIDI Buttons" shows up in the "More Actions..." list, from whence I downloaded this new gem. Is this the "Midi" plugin by Trevliga Spel ? Or is it a first-party plugin released by Elgato? Or some other third ...

Re: The Nemeio customisable keyboard
At long last, the Streamdeck can now transmit MIDI commands (Notes, CC, Program Change and MMC) using the recently released "MIDI button" action. Simply brilliant for triggering VI articulations. Thanks for the PSA! What version is this available in? I see a third party plugin released in...

Re: Spitfire Albion NEO
Frank, if there is a negative bias here about libraries, I think the root cause is just that our (participating) user base tends to be largely old hats that have been around the bend and back. It takes something special and innovative to garner excitement, so the first impressions of sample librarie...

Alternatively, perhaps Canadians pronounce it that way, and he's Canadian. We don't. :) I personally would prefer to hear Hendrik narrate OT's videos rather than hiring a voiceover. For me Hendrik has this genuine kid-in-a-candystore wonderment that I find infectious. You can tell he just loves thi...

Piet if you expire your content so quickly due to storage constraints, let me know, I might be able to help.

Re: Orchestral Tools Layers - Free Instrument
A steal at twice the price! Only played very briefly with it. I'll need to take some time to wrap my head around the SINE player. Meanwhile, precursor observations (maybe Tobias is reading): Account has annoying password requirements. My 24 character randomly generated password with lower case chara...

Re: Spitfire Albion NEO
Sounds nice, but a little too similar to Tundra to compel me into any purchase. The demos are clearly showing this library positioned as a textural element, which Tundra and Evolutions already cover for me. A couple extra tricks here (including a harmonium), and if I didn't already own Tundra I migh...

Re: Nextmidi Strings Library? Midi tool? coming soon
It's interesting that by themselves, I never quite took to the sound of SSS or SWAM strings (though I don't own SWAM). But layered together they work very well, each contributing to address the shortcomings of the other.

Re: PSP Audio - New Multi-Band Compressor
I have the FabFilter Pro-MB which does a lot of the same stuff (per-band mid/side, global mix level, etc) but I guess the key differentiator here is the vintage character? In principle, I wonder how using something like this would compare to using a character EQ or saturation in combination with a c...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra
I suspect the reason the demos sound so much better than the various live walkthroughs has less to do with the cohesive all-in-one-roomness of BBCSO and more to do with skillfully writing to the limitations of the samples. This suggests to me you'll spend a lot of time tweaking and finessing and rew...

We're not live yet... people are just trying to download before getting their download email :) In a sense that's a good problem to have, but I know first hand how problematic that can be. Years ago, the company I work for was doing a big coordinated launch of a new product, but the mobile client l...

Re: JXL Brass - Orchestral Tools
I’d peg them exact opposite, though I’m listening on an iPad. First one sounds very even at soft dynamic, crescendos very well through the layers, and has a nice overall warmth in the middle range. That's exactly why I think it's CSB. :) (Maybe I was ambiguous in my earlier post. I meant that I tho...

Re: JXL Brass - Orchestral Tools
A comparison of JXLB and CSB (you get to guess which is which) They're both pretty good, but I just slightly prefer the first one for this excerpt. It has a mellower tone and progresses to the harsher cuivre texture more gradually. (Granted, could just a performance difference.) But the higher dyna...

I worked with the library for 2 days fairly solid, earlier version of Sine, no crashes amazingly. That's encouraging to hear. I seem to be the only person who has Kontakt crashing multiple times a day, every day, over multiple systems over multiple version for years, with no ability to identify roo...

An alternative to a breath controller could be an expression pedal. I use one and assign it to CC1. It's let's exhausting than a breath controller at least.
