Re: VPS Avenger 2

Well don't be fooled - of course this can do all the EDMs, but this is also a highly capable sound design synth. The new spectral synthesis gets some very interesting tones, similar but different to granular and less over-familar to my ears. There's a lot of good raw material in the factory library ...

Re: Incirios announcement - a new sampler and audio engine

Maybe it’s because I was trained classically to write for real players but it just wouldn’t occur to me to ever play a solo woodwind sampled instrument polyphonically expecting it to be the real performance. Not classically trained here, but quite agree. It never works, especially on woodwinds for ...

Re: Incirios announcement - a new sampler and audio engine

The monophonic stuff does sound good. Playing the sustains polyphonically sounds like an organ, but to be fair it always does with woodwinds. Actually at 5.30ish the Oboe transitions sound horrible - the monophonic legato still sounds good though. What's the deal with this as an engine for 3rd party...

Re: VPS Avenger 2

It's out, but quelle surprise, servers are down. Price for new users seems to be £133 with a Black Friday discount. Upgrades are circa £73 with the discount I think, but until their servers are back up I can't be sure. While we wait, here's a nice no-nonsense 8 minute overview of some of the new fea...

Re: Toontrack Kicks and Snares EZX

Well it's time for a thread revival. This is a classic, so good to have Chris Whitten contribute here. Anyway, Kicks And Snares is now 70% in the Black Friday sale, and I think I should probably do the decent thing after all this time. I'd forgotten about the extra layers of electronic elements whic...

Re: Kontakt 7.7 - now with ads [FIXED BY NI]

NI has added a preference option in 7.7.1 to entirely remove "New Instruments For You", out today.

Good. Next, the ability to restore double-click loading into an empty slot on the rack please.

Any updates on the copy protection that will be used? Something about my system makes codeMeter (that's what they're on now, isn't it?) it is think that it's constantly a new system, and I haven't been able to get Avenger running for a while. It's no longer Codemeter, hasn't been for a while. It's ...

Re: VPS Avenger 2

Manuel has indeed this ‘almost stereotype’ ( south) german feature to look like he doesn’t enjoy what he’s doing, but clearly he does, producing soundbanks after soundbanks, including his participation in Refx. A contrast appears clearly in his video’s with Dr Mix. Although for my side I quickly ha...

Re: VPS Avenger 2

hmm, not yet heard anything that would actually cover new ' ground' , while new features suggests the upgrade price to be valid..... maybe when new sound banks come it might show what it's capable of... I don't disagree. It's an evolutionary update, not a revolutionary one, but the features look so...

Re: Musio

Taylor Davis violin has been added, which I've not had before. Where this seems to excel is in fast legato phrases which are very agile and not smeary. Vibrato is pretty strong, so I accordingly miss port transitions for emotive stuff. It feels limited in what its appropriate for, but what does do i...

Re: Black Friday tips

Well even that UAD madness yesterday didn't lure me... I'm doing pretty well so far this year. Those drum machines at something like £16 (wonderful btw - tons of rare models in there) have been my only weakness to date.

So far (UAD aside) there have been very few really new eye-catching deals imo.

Getting ridiculous with UAD now - $142 for the 44 instrument Signature Bundle at Plugin Discounts - https://plugindiscounts.com/product/universal-audio-uad-signature-edition-crossgrade-from-any-uad-bundle/ . My real weakness is drum machine samples, and imo the best out there (mmmaybe even better than Samples From Mars) is Goldbaby. They have a 40% off BF sale. Let's see who blinks first!

I've actually put myself back from the brink, as I've read a lot of comments about the LX24 that it is verrrry CPU hungry. I'm not sure I need the aggro.

Arturia have their deals back. Log in for your pricing, for me V Collection 9 from 8+SQ80 is €99, and FX Collection is €69. I've always resisted both since I have so much stuff. A nice little freebie for those with Arturia's Analog Lab - 32 presets called Modern Lab, shamelessly re-creating some famous patches by the likes of Grimes, Radiohead, MGMT, Tame Impala, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. It's there in the Analog Lab store to download.

Christian's argument is that straight, simple samples lose the richness and texture of a group of players performing together struggling with complexity and timing where the outcome is blurry and wonderful, using Hedwig's theme as an example. It's hard to disagree with that, but solving the problem...

Actually, Guy, navigating a track importing list is super-easy, barely an inconvenience. In amidst this new video there's more detail on what is actually going on (I suggest jumping in at around 6m 40s if you want to get to the meat of it). The main thing is - the gestures are triggered by key velocity, so you can control the amount of them fairly easily. https://youtu.be/50Lrg4XRFqo?si...
