Re: Black Friday tips

I got the Bluegrass. I do like them all, though I wish I could turn off the vibrato on the Gypsy, and I wish they had put all the articulation keyswitch information on one page instead of two. Seems there are always quibbles, I have used the Gypsy enough yet to judge the vibrato, guess I will learn...

Re: Black Friday tips

I bought the Ronroco, the last of the Red Room Audio fiddles that I didn't already have May I ask which one that is? I picked up their Gypsy fiddle. Already had the Celtic and Bluegrass versions. They get major props for capturing the sounds and styles of the Celtic and Bluegrass fiddlers. I'm not ...

Re: Black Friday tips

That Quantec was under consideration. Absolutely worth consideration! I'm pretty much blown away by bother their plugins, but the QRS is unlike any reverb I've ever used. I can't really put it into words except to say it just kind of disappears, while at the same time adding that sense of space. It...

Re: Black Friday tips

I'm not sure unspectacular is the right word, but certainly underwhelming for folks of a certain vintage. My only "big" purchase was upgrading Spitfire Studio winds and brass to their pro versions. I had upgraded the strings some time ago, and found the upgrade worthwhile, just waited for ...

Re: Black Friday tips

Curse you Guy - I'd have been quite happy being ignorant of this sale. At $69 it almost feels foolish to pass, and I likely won't, there are some real gems in there. And I have been impressed with the few effects plugins I've already tried. It's a race to see which of us caves first Guy!! (and you d...

Re: Kontakt 7.7 - now with ads

I think I'll take my acoustic guitar to a nice cabin on a lake in Maine! I'm not going to give up on Kontakt, and they know that, many of us have too many hours and too many dollars tied up in it. I think that's the part that irks me most - they know we'll tolerate the ads because there are no great...

Re: Savant Audio / Quantum Room Simulator

there are folks that, probably out of need, went in different directions. The two standouts, to me, are Quantec and Ursa Major. Until recently there were few plugins that even tried to emulate these beasts, now all of the sudden there are choices. I have used the Ursa Major SST-282, and it's cousin ...

Re: Scarbee / Sun Bass

I bought it pretty much the day it was announced. Thomas has never disappointed! This is not my father's jazz or precision, and I don't think any amount of twiddling and tweaking will get you there, which is fine since I have the Scarbee J and P Bass libraries. It is a very "modern" soundi...

Re: Audio Ollie Nashville Scoring Strings - $60 sale

Piet spoke: " Meaning that the library is, in fact, not 43 gig but closer to 21,5 gig (or thereabouts). " I've been meaning to see if I really need both sample pools, my guess is not. Saves me 20+ GB of disc space. Jay - excellent point, and usually my approach, although sometimes I "...

you're killin' me Paolo... just when I thought it was safe to go back into the ocean!!!

Really interesting, and helpful walk-through, basically a lesson not only in how to use Cartoon Maestro, but also how to score a cartoon. And echoing Guy's comment, really nice use of velocity!!!

Re: Audio Ollie Nashville Scoring Strings - $60 sale

I did... well actually I picked them up some time ago. I like the sound. I am aware of the complaints, but they haven't hampered me. I have no regrets about the purchase, except maybe I should have waited???

Re: Fluffy Audio / Cartoon Maestro

after listening to the demos and watching the video I had to wander over here, but Piet beat me to the punch. I have PS Animator, and I like it. This appears to set the bar a bit higher? Regardless now I need to go find a cartoon(ish) project so I can just get this. Fluffy Audio has a real knack for...

Re: FREE: BFD Player, drum VI with 5gb library

I can't see myself trying to learn a new drum platform right now, the sounds I have from Toontrack cover a LOT of territory. BUT, the sounds that come with the BFD player are pretty impressive - I'd expect nothing less. So it is installed, and it won't be deleted any time soon!

mindless thoughts, since I am procrastinating like crazy today. First, I expect that all current powered plugins will get ported to the native "UADx" format as quickly as possible. It is a win-win for everyone (unless you are the type to get your panties in a bunch because you paid more fo...

Re: FREE: BFD Player, drum VI with 5gb library

I used their DR-008 for ages, still one of my favorite percussion tools, except it no longer works... silly detail. About the time I finally realized it was time to move on two tools hit the market - DFH Superior and BFD. I don't remember why I went with DFHS, and I have no regrets. In fact I've imp...

Re: NI cut fees for Kontakt 7 indie developers

Oh no! There are developers annoying the ruling class at NI? I have to hope enough developers resist to encourage them to reconsider this move. I've got nothing against NI, nor do I think they shouldn't be allowed to sell their hardware, but pushing musicians to upgrade software is unreasonable. The...

Re: UAD $39 sale

The Manley Voxbox is one of my go-to plugins. Nothing sounds quite like it, and when that's the sound I am seeking, well... Oddly I don't think I've ever used it for vocals (like Piet I don't record a lot of vocals), but it is killer good on acoustic stringed instruments, and in some cases on guitar...

Re: Abbey Road Orchestra - Violins 1 announced

It would be nice to have a variety of libraries for any given instrument, but it is not a must have for me, and even so I've racked up a small collection too. I like the sound of Abbey Road, not surprising, it is a room we've all heard more than once. (familiarity and all that?) The legato seems use...

yeah, but you don't really need all the nitty gritty details if you are working together with someone. No it won't be one for one, but as you say, it will be worlds better than past attempts at file interchange.

Larry - my thoughts exactly, although "you get what you pay for' keeps ringing in my ears. In this case that may not apply, since there is probably no human intervention, thus no salaries to pay, its all about recouping the investment.
