We are proud to announce the release of the new Little Plate reverb plug-in. Little Plate is available for FREE through November 22 (reg. $99).*

To create our first dedicated reverb plug-in, we collected plate reverbs from around the world, including five immense original EMT 140s, which are still considered the finest example of the plate reverb sound. After months of repair, tuning, and careful listening, our engineers meticulously modeled the rich and spacious sound of their favorite plate from this collection. Then some distinct and modern twists were added, including a modulation switch and infinite reverb tails.

Little_Plate_Screenshot_300dpi_Center The original EMT 140, with its mechanical and possibly asbestos-clad damping plate, could vary its reverberation decay time from 1 to 5 seconds. Little Plate offers a broader range of decay times: as short as half a second for super tight ambience effects, to truly cavernous extended decay times up to infinity for unique and creative frozen reverb sounds. When Mod is switched on, chaotic variations are used to add life and movement to the reverberation effect. The Low Cut and Mix knobs help to dial in the perfect reverb sound quickly and easily.

Notable Features:

Add the sound of vintage plate reverb to your tracks
Push beyond the limits of the hardware with extended reverb decay time
Create infinite reverb effects that never decay
Optional Modulation for natural-sounding variation in the reverb tail
Low Cut filter to tame low frequency build-up
25 distinct presets to quickly dial in a sound

Like other Soundtoys plug-ins, Little Plate takes you to spaces the original hardware only dreamed of. Little Plate is free through November 22, so get it now. After the introductory period, Little Plate’s regular price will be $99.

Thanks Guy - I didn't see this in my email box - I generally get their news. Did you get an email, or see it somewhere else?

I love SoundToys - they are one of my favorite plugin devs - they are so generous with their sales and customer loyalty. I don't know of any other dev who give so much stuff away for free, and then counts it as full price for upgrades and company cross grades. They really know how to to take care of their clients. I have yet to update to the Full version of their suite (it is high on my list) - But I have all their mini versions. I will add this one too.

Someone on KVR linked it Kayle, it does look like a very generous freebie.

Nice find. Thanks for posting. They must be swamped with downloads as their site is loading very slowly. I will download it when I can and report back what I think (I'm sure it will be fantastic - they do really nice work. If you hadn't noticed, I am a huge fan of SoundToys!)

Here is a little example I did in about 1.5 hours using only Little Plate - The strings are from Ominisphere and have some baked in verb - so nothing extra on that.

So far, I think this is a great sounding reverb. It has a vintage vibe to my ears that I am really going to love on a project I am currently working on. Maybe it's just me but this seems to fit perfectly with a 60s vibe I am going for.

This maybe a bit too wet, but it gives you an idea maybe of what it sounds like.

!! Attention Soundtoys 5 Bundle Owners !!

You may have already noticed that a license for Little Plate was deposited in your iLok account. We went ahead and automatically deposited it for you prior to the launch so you don't need to go through the process of signing up for it or even logging into your account. Just download the appropriate installer here, run it, open your host application, and follow the steps to activate.

Great!

Nice dark sound, but only dark. It doesn't get bright. And there is no stereo input? The mod is a very nice feature - this really keeps the sound alive. Too bad though there isn't a mod amount control.

Maybe they'll come out with a big brother with additional features.

Still, for free? How can I complain. I remember the day I got an AKG BX-15 and it was something like $1,500. It sounded nothing like the beautiful BX-20 that Tomita had. And of course a real EMT140 was completely out of the question both in price and size. And today its free and we bitch about it. What ingrates!

No stereo input on plates, and if if it is, they sum them (A+B=M) before hitting the actual plate.

Interesting. I guess that's the way it was. I remember we used to use two reverbs to get stereo. Though we don't have such constraints with virtual devices today (or rather we don't have to).
The PSP emulation(PSP 2445) of the EMT 250 digital reverb has really nice options for mono/stereo setups. Not sure if these were on the actual EMT 250 or not though (I doubt it). EMT presumably were emulating plates too.
