Re: The Happy Thread Of Free

I hear you Bill. I have mixed feelings as well but I must say that Pigments is truly awesome, soundwise as well as workflow-wise. And yes, a Kawai K5 VST would make my day, any day. Studio One, Fadermaster, and others I've forgotten, and now the K5? I knew I liked you Enough respected voices have s...

Re: The Happy Thread Of Free

I make it a rule these days to shy away from most freebies. I do make an exception for a freebie that is, in fact, a pretty decent trial - that is, a trial with minimal limitations. This probably means I miss some cool toys, but I have more plugins and libraries than any rational person needs. And y...

Re: ProjectSAM: Symphobia range half price

I too prefer to work with individual instruments and sections. At 50% off it probably would be a good idea to dip your toe in. I use the Symphobias because nothing sounds like people playing together, and I love the room tone. I find it useful for sketching, and for "filling in the gaps" i...

Re: ProjectSAM: Symphobia range half price

It took Guy a couple of tries before I took the bait and purchased Symphobia 1. I was hesitant about Symphobia 2, and again Guy whispered in my ear. I know own all four, and I absolutely love them. It is the underlying sound of these libraries that got my attention. I still prefer multi-sampled indi...

kinda agree - if we want to start a thread for donationware or conditional pricing that might be cool, but I think most folks interpret free as free.

Re: The Happy Thread Of Free

Indeed, amazing choices,, but too many!!! These days I shy away from free (there was a time...). Most free plugins are supported as we as commercial products, but why gamble? As far as plugins go - this weekend I finally finished thinning the herd,, started with almost 1300 plugins, down to a little...

Re: Musio - latest stuff [MUSIO 1 $199 this weekend]

I'm not paranoid - you guys really are out to bankrupt me. For $200 it is probably worth it for a handful of libraries. Voces 8 and Apocalypta would be enough, although I'm intrigued by the Gina Luciani Flutes. Also curious about the Men and Women of the North, and it would let me try out Cinestring...

Re: Musio - latest stuff [MUSIO 1 $199 this weekend]

Cinestrings Solo is the only one of their orchestral libraries I don't have, and I have most of the artist series as well, which leaves nothing, right now anyway, that I want from them. Even so, it is a fantastic idea - if they can keep up with the demand for new content. And if they can get back so...

Re: L. A. Modern Percussion - $60 at Pulse Audio

A trap I often fall into - I work with one of the less bombastic libraries on a track that is in no way intended to be epic, but after working with it for a while I decide it needs more oomph, so I insert a more bombastic library, when what I really needed to do is walk away. It is not unlike that a...

Re: L. A. Modern Percussion - $60 at Pulse Audio

interesting - this, I guess, is why we have Chocolate and Vanilla? LAMP is a good choice for bombastic, I fill in the rest with True Strike. For "standard" percussion I use ToonTrack Orchestral Percussion, I love the sound, and seldom need to fill in the blanks. I find BBCSO, and Cineperc ...

Re: Spitfire Audio / Trevor Horn's "Jupiter"

It has been quite a while since Spitfire released anything that grabbed me and said "buy me!" I could be maturing I suppose (hope not), or my tastes may be changing, but there haven't been any instant buys. There are three on my wish list right now, libraries I'd buy if I had cash lying ar...

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Percussion

as one might guess I spent some time playing around with percussion last night. Cineperc is DEEP, and I have not spent nearly enough time with it, but I love the sound. It will have to do battle with Toontrack Orchestral Percussion, my previous favorite by a mile, now they are tied. In addition to g...

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Percussion

The demo sounds every bit as good as True Strike. The UI is a bit more flexible, I think.

But I am still discovering things about True Strike, and I don't see enough new stuff to justify purchasing it. At least not at the moment.

Re: Musio - Voces8 choir released

In spite of my trepidation I think you are one smart cookie Guy. If (when) Musio succeeds you will truly be in the cat bird's seat! And that is - to me - the most likely scenario. I will buy in when there are a few libraries I "must have", and Voces8 is a great start to luring me in.

Re: UVI / NI 89% off select bundle

It does look like a good deal, even if you only want a couple of them. Heck it's worth it just for the prepared piano (I am a sucker for prepared pianos!) And that's where I am right now, I'd like to pick up synth anthology 4, Ircam Prepared Piano, & Emu II, I think they'll get some use. I do te...

Re: Arturia V Collection X

All that aside I am not tempted to upgrade from 9 to 10... just not enough new stuff, and the demos do not make their CP-70 sound all that great.

Re: Arturia V Collection X

I think we may be forgetting that this is why they make chocolate and vanilla... The CP-70 is absolutely it's own animal. I like the sound, I use Keyscape while I wait for a truly killer CP-70 library, Same goes for electric violin - there two artists that play it as it's own instrument, and it work...

Re: Black Friday / Christmas / etc tips

Damn, just when I thought I was out... I know the feeling, I caved this morning and updated Tai Chi from Liquidsonics. Not sure if I posted about it before, ignore if I did... This has to be the most fun one can have with a reverb plugin. It seems impossible to choose or create a bad preset. And it...

Studio One has direct integration with OPUS? How'd I miss that? I knew about the tie-in to VSL, and I do like their libraries, but my bank account is not so fond!

Re: Black Friday tips

I did a demo for them in HCF style. It can work (some of what I did works, other phrases are kind of forced) but it takes a fair amount of finessing. Its original focus is not gypsy swing but more standard roots gypsy music. Well thanks, not sure I'd have ever figured that out for myself, kinda had...
