Re: AUDDICT / Broken Heartstrings Piano

Larry, no, your ears are not deceiving you. For the first example, all of the twelve optional layers (a few of which add long, ambient, paddy reverbs — which I’m not a fan of) were completely turned down, whereas for the second example, there was a small percentage of some of those layers mixed in w...

Re: AUDDICT / Broken Heartstrings Piano

Yes, you're both right, Larry and Rob. Found this video that goes through all the chords — embarrassing to learn how many of them I got wrong-ish all these years — and there is indeed no 7th (C) in the chord under scrutiny (although he suggests and plays one as an option): https://youtu.be/OnDROX2Vb...

Lawrence wrote: Oct 15, 2023 12:00 pm(...) Was there a #9 chord in “Maybe I’m Amazed?”
This bit here always sounded like a D7#9 to me, Larry. Maybe there's a more correct name for the chord, but 7#9 is how I always used to play it. (I no longer do cause my voice can't handle it anymore.)

Re: AUDDICT / Broken Heartstrings Piano

I don't hear 'strident' or the beginnings of 'forte', I must say. It all sounds pianissimo/piano and accordingly woolly to me. Which is, by the way, why I don't really understand the presence of low-pass filter they've added to the GUI. To my mind a high-pass filter would make a much more useful par...

Re: VSL : Synchron Duality Strings (Sordino) Released !

Yes, some of it sounds very good. But … I have drawn what might well turn out to be a final line under my VSL purchases. I have … let me see … close to 2 terrabyte of data in my VSL Content folder and I hardly use any of it, ever . Occasionally an old woodwind (weirdly, the ones I use most frequentl...

Re: IK multimedia Pianoverse

Curious as always and quickly telling myself that one more virtual piano can't hurt, I bought the Steinway. It's not bad. Not great either, but not bad. The upper register of the keyboard is a minor disappointment to my ears. It doesn't sparkle and sounds a bit lifeless, I find. Software is pretty g...

Over the past 30 years, I’ve experienced six “Wow!”-moments when a new strings ensemble library was introduced : a loooong time ago — in my EMU E-6400 & Akai days — when the Miroslav Vituous Strings Ensembles were released (to fully understand this first “Wow!” you have to consider what else was...

Re: Spitfire Audio / Trevor Horn's "Jupiter"

Look, I can make a very, very long list of stuff from the 80’s that I really like, but again: on the whole and unfairly generalized and many exceptions aside, I don’t like the ‘pop’ sound of the decade. That typical Rick Astley sort of sound, you know. Or anything with that famous but unbearable DX7...

Re: Streamtech (Maxime Luft) released Iconic Violin (Kontakt)

I prefer a violin to sound fuller, rounder and warmer than this one does -- is it just me, or does this Iconic have a razor-blade-thin and often folksy timbre? -- but apart from that, this seems to be well-made.

Re: [NEW] VSL Duality Strings

Here is another wonderful sounding demo showing VSL Synch. Duality Strings in action. Amazing and fantastic piece of work of course, but impressive as the strings are during much of this piece, they do give, surprisingly, only a very small idea of what the library is all about. See, most of the str...

Mmm, I don’t know, Larry. To my ears the softer dynamics don’t sound noticeably better or worse than the louder ones. (I say ‘ones’ as if there are several of both, but to my ears there’s only one of each — in the legato patches, that is —, maybe there’s a third one in the middle but I don’t hear th...

Re: [NEW] VSL Duality Strings

As promised, a few quick words about the Synchron Duality Strings. I could make this really quick and simply say, truthfully, “I’m seriously considering returning this to store” and be done with it, but as that’s of no use to anyone, I’ll add a few more lines. Duality is certainly not a bad library ...
