Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

Sounds nice and I think that finally Spitfire has caught up with modern sampling - similar to CSS and Performance samples. The legatos sound comparable and anyone who wants this sound should be happy with it. This is incredibly useful for jobbing composers who need to impress directors and producers...

Re: Black Friday 2021 (inc early deals)

Slightly off topic, but do you know if 2.0 for CineStrings et al is just a GUI update or anything more substantial, Musiksculp? They said they are doing some re-editing and de-noising. I hope there are some significant scripting upgrades otherwise it won't be a very useful update. I doubt it will g...

Re: iZotope Holiday Bundles

Very happy with their subscription at the moment.

Unfortunately, Symphony by Exponential Audio is still not on sale. I really want to get it at some point as it's such a beautiful sounding reverb but I am still going to wait for a sale!

Re: Cubase 12 announced (...or not)

Guy, I routinely get crashes - almost everytime I shut a session. This behavior is the same on a near clone system (software wise but different hardware)) as well and hasn't changed since 10.2, through to the latest current version of 11. Local undo was the greatest thing and it was really helpful w...

Re: Cubase 12 announced (...or not)

Cubase has become a bit buggy since the last couple of versions and it is really unacceptable that sessions won't quit properly. It is a huge pain to deal with crashes simply because there is some problem with memory management. This has been a known issue for several versions and it is inexcusable ...

Thanks for sharing ZeeCount. I think this is a big improvement over the existing version from SWAM so I am definitely interested now!

Re: AcousticSamples / VHorns

Fantastic to see others getting into modeling and doing a good job at that! I am waiting for the day somebody can do an orchestral section with it. VHorns does sound good - my only tiny criticism is that it sounds a bit too harsh and bright in places. In fact, the trumpet has a bit of the 'muted' so...

Re: Incoming / major True Strike and Symphobia updates

I finally upgraded from my 2008 version, after 13 years. What a fantastic update! It truly is one of those spectacular libraries from back in the day. I think it's the oldest library I still use all the time. For $33, it is a steal and so great of them to offer it for free to existing mid season Kon...

Re: Incoming / major True Strike and Symphobia updates

True Strike 1 is a wonderful library. I still use the 15 year old edition with multis! I think its nice that they are revamping it - I don't know if they updated the sound quality with their mid season release but I will definitely upgrade to this one. I don't think its a bad idea for them to move t...

Re: SoundTheory / Gullfoss Master

I use it sometimes exactly how Piet described it. I will take some suggestions from it.

Like Linos, sometimes I found it was too bright and that’s when I leave the HF out of gulfoss.

It’s a nice tool, may be needs more practice in usage.

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)

I’m not sure whether the difference between Jack’s and my opinion on the Elite’s amounts to a complete disagreement, Larry. Jack (and many people with him) likes them very much, and me, I don’t like enough what I’ve heard thus far to spend 540€ on them. That’s it, really. But I would never call it ...

Re: Performance Samples Con Moto Strings Bundle on Sale

Good for melodic lines and layering with other strings as a top layer - these are smaller sections and blend in very well. I agree with Luke that these are very specific and will need a more complete strings library to go with. However, I believe VISTA is not like that and it has many more dynamic l...

Re: Modern Scoring Strings (aka LASS 3)

Lots of powerful features and rather impressive sounds here, except … the cellos, which often appear to belong to a completely different and far worse-sounding library than the rest of the strings. Been watching these videos with a near constant feeling of “One day, I’m sure going to buy this” but ...

Re: VSTClub.com Is this a con? Unreal prices-huge catalogue

Just had a quick look - it’s obviously a fake website (opened via iPhone to avoid viruses). The links even mention the word ‘cracked’.

I would highly recommend not buying anything from them for ethical and security reasons.

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

@Tanuj “So, there is an argument about how useful some of this stuff is, who can actually run it as an intended use and what is the library designed for?” You might be interested by the fact that this question also applied to early EW libraries like EWQLSO. I bought it way back in the day (I believ...

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

I dunno. I get the feeling that this Foundations library may be a cut above any other 'all in one' orchestral library introduced by any developer to date. It does sound that good imo. No one has yet mentioned that it would appear Spitfire is using new 'recording techniques' for the Abbey Road serie...

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

Yes, very nice sound - the trumpets seem particularly good. Overall its another oddly balanced release though, with 10 mic positions but all ensembles and no legatos. That's just plain weird to me, such a bizarre set of priorities. Guy, I very much agree. It is a shame that there is still no connec...

Well, it sounds incredible actually. Abbey Road One. For me, their Air series is now redundant. Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

I would guess that it is not an orchestral sample library as they have many active products - BBC being very recent. I could be wrong. If it is indeed an orchestra, I would be very interested because I have always liked the sound of the recordings from Abbey road over Air (though it is also excellen...

Re: Spitfire @ Abbey Road !/?

They have everything going for them except scripting and catching up on realism in terms of phrasing etc. Without that, this will be yet another set of mic positions from Abbey Road. They are a brilliant company - just lagging behind in a specific side of tech at the moment. Other things they do phe...

I like the SiNE player - it’s just been a bit unstable sometimes. I think it’s better than Kontakt over all for their libraries. Also, these are not one-finger libraries. They are doing something that is impossible to do with standard libraries and I don’t think it makes anyone less of a musician to...

Re: Mastering The Mix / Bassroom

Very interesting GUI for sure! Why and how is this different from EQ's and multi-band compressors etc? I can imagine it giving you a feedback based on a reference track if you are not hearing what the changes need to be to accomplish a similar sound. I suppose, it's a nice thing to have but it proba...
