Re: Important Notification from Virharmonic
haveibeenpwned.com was just updated with a large volume of credentials that has been making the rounds on hacker forums. More details here . I looked up my personal domain and my Virhamonic email address is included in this dump. I imagine all Virharmonic's customers are as well. Just a reminder tha...

Re: Tina Guo Acoustic Cello vol 2
Thanks for sharing that, Geoff. I do find Don Bodin's reviews tend to be overly superficial and uncritical, but there was a lot of audio content in that review to help formulate opinions about the library. My opinion on the legato has improved somewhat, but there were still some really troublesome m...

Re: Tina Guo Acoustic Cello vol 2
I could easily be wrong, I will find out by the weekend! Please do report back! Whereas vol 1 was a one-trick pony, that pony was very well groomed and behaved. Here it seems like the vol 2 pony can do quite a few more tricks, but I didn't get a strong feeling it did even what vol 1 did well. Would...

Tina Guo Acoustic Cello vol 2
Cinesamples has just released volume 2 of their popular Tina Guo Acoustic Cello for $99: https://cinesamples.com/product/tina-guo-vol-2 https://cinesamples.com/img/product/image/akcpbuapj1snegguo1b6heuitpp.png I haven't watched the walkthrough video yet, but although the Mini Phrases and Effects dem...

Re: Metropolis Ark 4 (Dec 19th)
Yeah those power legatos sound pretty good, especially on the low strings. And the name made me chuckle (perhaps unintentionally).
MA4 looks like a fine addition to the family.
Wish the voiceover in the video was mixed louder though. Constantly rode my master volume while playing.

Some very good sounds in that walkthrough -- though the typical uncanny valley of choirs in many places of course -- but yes, that GUI looks like a circa 1995 video game.

Re: Cinematic Studio Brass ... soon ....
Bought it. Will fiddle for a bit tonight but my fiddling time is regrettably limited this week. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the library. Cursory observations: Legato is only medium or fast, no slow legatos as with CSS. That's probably ok as a slower transitions would probabl...

Re: Cinematic Studio Brass ... soon ....
And it's out. A couple videos up now and at least through my crappy phone speakers it sounds really good. Although I'm concerned I haven't heard anything in the ppp to pp range. I suspect this won't be the library for softer chorale work but I hope I'm wrong. (Edit: I just noticed a new "Christ...

Re: VSL releases Steinway D
www.vsl.co.at/Steinway_D Wow, a piano sample library with release velocity samples. That's impressive. I only know of Pianoteq doing that (which is easier since it's modeled). And the robotic apparatus to trigger the keys should ensure consistent velocity layers between notes. The room mic sounds gr...

Re: BF/CM Ultimate Acquisitions
You know, I haven't bought anything for BF/CM. I would have taken advantage of the u-he soundset sale but I was too slow on the uptake.
Otherwise, just not bit by any bug. Could be a first.

Added the Xtant Audio sale as well as one announced for Hollo Sounds.
(Guy, I didn't include the Sofia Woodwinds sale from Librewave because it's an introductory offer rather than a BF sale.)

Re: Cinematic Studio Brass ... soon ....
I'm personally really excited to see what Alex has done with the horns. This to me has been a real sore point of sample based brass libraries. Samples really struggle with legato on the horns for some reason, with difficult-to-tame phasing-like artifacts. Would like to see a chorale demo. The demos ...

Ah, not quite "finally." Unlike with past releases from Alex this one is being teased before the release. He hopes it will be officially out before EOY.

Re: Strezov Afflatus Series
Cinematic Studio Strings comes to mind concerning legato patches that are sluggish to use. You need a massive amount of negative delay compensation if you want to work to a grid. Afflatus does not. You still need to add a bit of negative delay but more akin to what we are use to using on standard l...

Re: UVI / Plate (electro-mechanical reverb)
UVI Plate looks really quite impressive actually, and not just because it's a Dan Worrall video. (I've been a Worrall fan long before it became fashionable to squee over his presentations.) The band decay editor is reminiscent of FabFilter Pro-R (which I have). I really, truly don't need another rev...

Re: Sonible smart:EQ2 with generous crossgrade offer
I really do sympathize. I resisted getting an iLok or installing the PACE crapware for some years before I finally gave in. I'm an old hat Linux and FOSS guy, so I feel like I sold a part of my soul. I wish everyone would just do what FabFilter does. I feel like those guys have it nailed. (Edit: to ...

Sonible smart:EQ2 with generous crossgrade offer
Actually launched on October 1, but I noticed it wasn't mentioned on TSB. It's regularly €129, with an introductory price of €89, but as an existing owner of frei:raum (I had picked it up on sale ), I received a discount offer for smart:EQ2 for €9.90. What's better, when I actually checked out, I on...

Re: Harmonic Subtones / Emotional Violin
Listening to the demos: sometimes it sounds utterly convincing, but those moments of "oh yeah it's a VI" are just a little bit more frequent than I'd like. (Especially The Fiddler - Traditional is just a continuous run of cringe for me.) I think, though, if you wrote to the samples, this i...
