Re: The 8dio flash sale thread

Just watching the walkthrough video now, it looks like Insolidus is, essentially, a phrase library. There are separate instruments for 2, 3 and 4 syllable phrases, which are tempo-synced. I think that's actually a pretty smart way of doing it, so you can get the totally natural phrasing and swells. ...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

Listening over at VI-C, I have to say I’ve rarely heard so many fine sounding user demos. There are some very good writers writing them, but still-through a number of variations in settings and layering with other libraries, SAS still sounds pretty great. I think I’m in. That's good to hear, and I ...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

You mean, Reunited at LASS? Seriously, you think the pieces are similar? Or just that they present mile stones in the history of demos? The latter - just so we're clear, this gorgeous piece: https://soundcloud.com/audiobro/she-was-a-fair-lass?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaig...

Anyone else thinking of "She was a fair Lass"?

That's not meant dismissively, incidentally. That demo showed what LASS can do in the right hands. It wasn't a trick.

wst3 wrote: Jan 21, 2022 4:12 pm OK, yeah, that is a big deal, but the fact that it can not host VST3 plugins is making me just a little it crazy!
It’s inexplicable, that. After all this time… when you need to use it’s own VST3 version and yet it can’t use anyone else’s it’s quite perverse.

Re: Steinberg drops VST2

There is very little meaningful difference between 2 & 3, at least for me, but I know a lot of people really like the VST3 format. That’s just the thing, eh. It makes stuff all difference to us in practice. The lone exception is - ironically - VE Pro’s DAW plugin, where the VST3 version has 8 s...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

Yes, agree with all that Tanuj. Tangentially, I wonder what CineStrings 2.0 will bring - the library is routinely overlooked but has a lot going for it, and it also has the Runs library alongside it. And I agree that all hyperbole and soliloquies aside (and with some of Malachistos caveats), this se...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

Malachistos - I opted out of their emails quite some time ago! And I agree on the rebows, I thought the same thing in the hairpin demo. It sounds great but is timed, so not really that useful. Tanuj - you don't think tonally this and CineStrings are pretty similar on the basis of that little test? O...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

That nicely backs up what I often think with these kinds of releases: the hyperbole of the presentation makes you hear things for a moment that are just lightyears ahead of what anyone could do before. But then you compare to a few of your favorite libraries (not enough people do that even, I belie...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

Well... I don't want to be too difficult, but I don't hear this tone as revelatory. It's nice for sure, lovely even. But I just did a very rough A/B with the oft-forgotten CineStrings, and they really don't seem a million miles apart to me... it's just the first few notes from the walkthrough, follo...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

To be clear, I may very well buy this if I decide it competes favorably with, say, Soaring Strings. I’ll shoehorn it into my template and try to blend it with the outstanding SCS ensemble shorts. Once again though, I find the marketing REALLY annoying. Clearly this ensemble should be marketed as ex...

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)

Will be interested to get folks’ experiences. Specifically how it blends with either SSS (hopefully well) or SCS / Sable (probably less well). Without any shorts at all, that feels quite important.

Re: Steinberg drops VST2

@Guy A wrapper of sorts will be available, it will not work as well as things use to... but really, what does? Most of my stuff I have both VST2 and 3. Hopefully I won’t need a wrapper (much) - the main thing is if Cubase will see a VST2 thing, saying “I can’t load that, but look here’s a VST3 thin...

Steinberg drops VST2

https://www.gearnews.com/steinberg-discontinues-support-for-vst2-plug-ins/ This has been on the cards for a while, and the release says it will phase out support in the next 24 months, so unclear at the moment if Cubase 12 will retain VST2 as a final version to do so. Most stuff seems to be VST3 the...

Re: CineSamples : 2022

Perhaps the MUSIO catalog has very boiled down versions of their instruments you can download and use quickly, and then the Kontakt versions are the deep sampled ones? Who knows.. It’s hard to see it any other way, IMO. They’ve said the Kontakt range is continuing, and there are NO CONTROLS except ...
