Re: Another new noise reduction miracle

I misunderstood this tool and tried it on a musical segment, me playing piano at an airport. The results were hilarious as the program tried to turn my (polyphonic) playing into speech! I think segments of it will make for great humor sfx 😉 OK, now I have to try it. And Guy, perhaps it is just a ph...

Re: Another new noise reduction miracle

Not really necessary, your last sentence is spot on, especially that last part. "Right now I'm finding it needs some massaging, some errors creep in, but it will only improve, and many will decide that level of nicety isn't required." I wasn't arguing that Podcast and similar tools have no...

Re: Another new noise reduction miracle

I think there is another factor - the number of people that can operate at the top level is decreasing. I have no idea why, some blame it on computers, some just blame people, but as Hannes put so well, you have to up your game or fall by the wayside. Adobe Podcast is popular because it is good enou...

Re: sonicPlanet's "Creation" / sound design

man oh man do I have serious regrets about installing the demo for Dust... addictive, and remarkably powerful, I had a blast! But I have no possible rational for making that purchase - pity! I remember reading about Infiltrator, but it is, again, somewhat unrealistic. For that matter, so too is Crea...

Re: Futurephonic Rhythmizer 2.1 VST and AU

Hi Anders, WOW! For as long as I've been experimenting with algorithmic composition I've never run across that site. Shame on me! And Thank you!! At the moment I have both PlugData and Purr-Data (release version, latest build is sitting on the drive) installed on Windows. I probably need to go back ...

Re: Futurephonic Rhythmizer 2.1 VST and AU

That is pretty darned cool! It appears to be based on Max for Live Many years ago (when I still had a working Amiga - yeah, that long ago) I spent a fair bit of time with Dr. T's Algorithmic Composer, Laurie Spiegel's MIDI Mouse, and "M" now distributed for Mac only by cycling 74. I also e...

I wondered whatever became of that! Glad they will make it to market - they did an awful lot of work, original work, and deserve their day in the sun.

Re: 70% off The Unfinished Nordsund bundle for Zebra

Matt is truly one of the most imaginative sound designers around, and his knowledge of the synthesizers he works with is pretty much unmatched, save for the original designers. I've picked up a handful of his libraries, mostly for Omni, a couple for Zebra and one for Diva, all of which have more tha...

Re: Embertone / Honky Tonk Harmonica (Whiskey Series)

I haven't understood if this harmonica can play chromatically or it's diatonic... My impression, from the video - and the name - is that it is meant to be played as a diatonic harmonica. But until I buy it that is just a guess. I have the Fluffy Audio Spaghetti Western library. It includes both a d...

Re: Embertone / Honky Tonk Harmonica (Whiskey Series)

well I guess I have not yet tried to do a Stevie Wonder/Toots Thielman type harmonica part, and now, of course, I guess I have to? (This may be, in part, because I have yet to pick up a chromatic harmonica library???) I have tried a couple of harmonica libraries over the years, my current favorite b...

Re: ProjectSAM: Symphobia 3 Lumina 2.0, 30% off intro offer

Yes, there is just something about the sound of those recordings that makes me grin. I believe Pandora may have been the first to get the face lift, so it is already at the same level as the others, but I could be (and often am) wrong.

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note

Yup - I know the drill. I started out with a list of 3 or 4 on my wish list. Two of the bigger ticket items got scratched, but quite a few lower priced items took their place. Well, they made it to the list, still not sure which ones will make it to my "collection". Of your list I think th...

Re: Arturia V Collection 9

Never stop - your reviews, and hints are priceless. That said, I played around with the three demos again last night, putting most of my time into the SQ-80 because, well, the ESQm was probably the last hardware synthesizer I really enjoyed programming, and the SQ-80 plugin brought a lot of that fun...

Re: Arturia V Collection 9

I am really tempted by the upgrade to V9. There are only three plugins I really want, the SQ-80 - my ESQ-m is on its last legs, the Vocoder, and Emulator II. The SQ-80 demo is quite convincing, and the vocoder demo is pretty good as well. I just downloaded the Emu demo, but in the meantime I figured...

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note

The other deal that has my attention is Spitfire's Ton. I've picked up previous bundles and found them to be, on the whole, very useful. This time around I am really interested in the Fragile String Evolutions (I have Studio Brass, the winds are not as interesting to me). There is just something to ...

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note

much as I planned to skip the season, there are a couple things that I find really interesting... UA's Hitsville Chamber sounds amazing. I use the Capital Chambers often, this would be a nice alternative. At $349 I'll likely add another $25 and get the Pick3 which is really a Pick6. Not sure what el...

Re: ProjectSAM: Symphobia 3 Lumina 2.0, 30% off intro offer

I was really pretty surprised that they did not wait until after the holidays to release the "new and improved" NA. I hope it won't bite them too hard.

I removed the updates to NA and I'll stick with version one for a while - until I run across a library that requires it.

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note

Cinesamples is 65% off across the board - IIRC that's their deepest ever discount. This news makes me smile and weep uncontrollably at the same time. I've been meaning to round out my brass section with their "Horns of the Deep" library, and would have done so without the discount - with ...
