Orange Tree / Baritone Electric

The electric baritone guitar: a sound which many people who lived through the Twin Peaks age will associate with that series, even though its Main Title’s iconic deep guitar sound isn’t a baritone guitar (apparently, it’s a combination of sampling and synthesis). Sounds very much like one though, an...

Re: Arturia V Collection 9

None of the reasons I can think of, Bill, have anything to do with collection itself, which is very good, but everything with how much time and attention one is able or prepared to give it. I only mention this because I have to confess that there are occasions when I don’t give a newly purchased pro...

Re: Cherry Audio / GX-80

I've read a few other people saying that too, but I don't have a single issue with the performance of GX-80 so far. Seems to consume about the same resources as the Elka-X. Just checked it again, picking a dozen or so presets at random, and the highest the CPU-meter ever rises is somewhere around 30...

Re: Black Friday 2022 deals of note

Yes, these don't sound too bad, don't they? Better than I remember, having bought the USOE Violins already once, separately, when they were first released some years ago (can't recall exactly when), but never having done much with them for lack of enthusiasm. And after that, I lost interest in USOE....

Re: Musical Sampling / Gabrielle Flute

I agree, Rob. So, no, you're certainly not imagining things. For certain things (in this particular example), your edited patch sounds better, at other moments, the original delivers a more fitting performance. Keep, use and combine both, it seems to me, it's a convincing combination.

Re: Musical Sampling / Gabrielle Flute

Sounds nice, Rob. (“Sounds nice, Rob” has become a sentence with distinctly pleonasmic qualities, hasn’t it? The ‘nice’ being completely superfluous when the sentence begins with “Sounds” and ends with your name. Can’t be anything other than ‘nice’ in between. Or it should be: ‘very nice’.) I must s...

I have no idea, Rob. But according to the website, you should be entitled to the gift if you buy *anything*. No minimum amount mentioned. It literally says: "One free with any purchase." And you can do it five times.

If, these days, you buy something at Plugin Boutique, Rob, they'll throw a Cherry Audio ARP 2600 (or any of four other choices) in for free.

Re: Cherry Audio / GX-80

It's pretty impressive, yes. Took me quite some time before I fell under the spell of Cherry Audio — their first few releases never quite convinced me, I must admit — but since the Elka-X, I'm a convert. And Sines is my favourite of the lot. I really, really like Sines. What stops the GX-80 from bec...

Trackspacer is useful for many other things besides vocals, Tanuj. In any situation where you have to temporarily make room for something by suppressing something else, or when you want to avoid ugly build-ups of frequencies, Trackspacer is the tool to reach for. Yes, you can get equally satisfying ...

Musical Sampling / Gabrielle Flute

Musical Sampling has released another woodwind, the Gabrielle Flute . Intro price $49, from December 12th the price will rise to $79. The demos make a convincing case for the Gabrielle, as well as for not-just-developer-but-also-composer Aaron Sapp. Nice piece by Jean-Gabriel Raynaud as well. https:...

Re: Modartt / Pianoteq 8 (+ Nylon Guitar Expansion)

Not in the sense that it has a database of chords which can be triggered with one or two keys, no. But you can play chords with it of course, any chord you like. With one (tiny) limitation: unless you play it "à la Piano" (there's a preset for that), PTQ's Guitar adheres rather strictly to...

Nice work from AcousticSamples. Finally, I get to play legato at low velocities. (When I mentioned earlier I couldn't get the glides to work, the problem, it now appears, wasn't so much the glide function, but the Big Bug described above: that the legato didn't work at low velocities. Works perfectl...
