Re: Audio Modeling SWAM V3 of Solo Woodwinds, Double Reeds, Clarinets, and Sax Released
I'm still not wholly convinced by the flute and the clarinet -- what bothers me in v2 still bothers me in v3 -- but the bassoon (see video below) is phenomenally good.

Re: AcousticSamples / VHorns
Audio Modelling has released v3. I predict a few frowning faces and raised eyebrows though when people see the prices.

Re: AcousticSamples / VHorns
I wonder how this stacks up against Sample Modeling's Solo Brass? Every bit as good as Sample Modelling, Sculp. The mid and high registers of the trombones are even much better than the Sample Modelling one. To my ears, anyway. Much better. The low register of Trombone 1 however, is alas nothing mu...

Re: AcousticSamples / VHorns
Totally my kind of plugin, this. A buy doesn’t get more instant than this for me. (That is, if only PayPal’s telephone verification system weren’t so bloody problem-ridden: haven't been able to log in to my account these past two days ...) Yes, there’s an ugly shrillness in some of the sounds — thei...

AcousticSamples / VHorns
Best known for their virtual guitars, basses, drums and keyboards — never bad, and in some cases excellent — AcousticSamples have now released a virtual brass section VHorns which, like their recent keyboard-releases, was created via a combination of sampling and modelling. From the website: "W...

Re: Piano in Blue
I have no idea. They say they cleaned up the samples again and the programming now makes use of Kontakt functions which weren't available at the time of the library's original release. I've heard two little demos on VI-C of people who bought the update, but neither struck me as "Wow, what an im...

Sonnox / "Claro"
At Sonnox headquarters, I imagine they probably cursed quite a bit and filled the conference room with the sound of gnashing teeth when they learned that Sonible had released their Smart EQ, because if any EQ (other than the Sonible) deserves to be called 'smart', it is without a doubt the new one f...

NUGEN / Paragon ST (reverb)
https://nugenaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/paragonst.png Derived from Nugen's Paragon — a 3D convolution reverb developed mainly for film and television post production —, the new Paragon ST is squarely aimed at music production. It lacks the 3D functionality of the full Paragon and can only...

Re: Wavesfactory Quantum - Transient Shaper
Fritz , no, it's not a public space. Jason created that little corner specifically because I asked him to after I kept running time and again into the limitations of my own private webspace. Besides, I'm also fairly certain that, for security reasons, Jason and Marius would both strongly object to,...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
Sonokinetic have uploaded their annual 'Focus Feature' which, this year, is a mock-orchestral extravaganza called "Scary Christmas" showcasing many of Sonokinetic's libraries. Sonokinetic state that all the strings were rendered with the upcoming Orchestral Strings but attentive viewers of...

Re: Wavesfactory Quantum - Transient Shaper
There’s another great use for transient shaping of orchestral samples which I forgot to mention. You surely know how, with nearly all strings libraries, if you want a really tight, committed and punctuated performance of repeated staccato notes, you’re often condemned to use the ff and/or fff sample...

Re: Wavesfactory Quantum - Transient Shaper
Fritz, keeping audio files longer online shouldn't be a problem. Yes, my uploads tend to disappear rather quickly when I post them on my own webspace (which is a fast and convenient solution but has a limited capacity), but Jason has reserved some of The Sound Board's server space for hosting files ...

Good idea, Guy. But then I feel I (and hopefully some others) *have* to add some audio (or maybe video) as well. Tells so much more than just words.
So, give me a few days.

Re: Wavesfactory Quantum - Transient Shaper
(...) My guess would be just to add sharpness to mostly Staccatos, Spiccatos and Piccicatos. But do you use them on a bus for the whole instrument or rather individual per patch? Maybe also to soften some attacks, as this is also possible with a transient designer. But other than that: any special ...

Re: Wavesfactory Quantum - Transient Shaper
(...) I’ve never really explored transient shaping (...) Not saying that you absolutely should, Duncan, but I heartily recommend doing so anyway. Transient shaping is one of the most effective and satisfying ways, I find, to bring back some energy, life, snap, zip and punch to dead samples. I use t...

Re: Arturia Ensoniq SQ80V
Haven't looked at the Vocoder yet. (Excellent video though, the one from CatSynth TV.). But I've been completely wrapped up in the Buchla for the past hour. Insane little thing, that synth. (For me, the upgrade price is already justified after playing just the Buchla. And there's 27 more synths to g...

Re: Arturia Ensoniq SQ80V
Just finished watching a few Arturia V-Collection 8 video’s and listening to some of the demos, and the sound quality of their instruments seems to have improved in a big way. I didn’t know that. Years ago, I bought a few individual Arturia synths but quickly stopped using them because of (1) the te...
