Spectrasonics full range updates inc standalone versions

Spectrasonics has released new Mac and Windows standalone applications of the company’s award-winning Keyscape, Omnisphere 2, Trilian and Stylus RMX virtual instruments. The standalone versions are now included with each product and are available now as a FREE update for existing customers. The streamlined new apps enable playing Spectrasonics instruments without using a DAW, providing a simple solution for live musicians looking to switch to a laptop based setup. The design focus of the new standalone apps is on quick access, high performance and outstanding sound quality.

A new remote control loading feature has also been added to the new Omnisphere 2.4 and Keyscape 1.1 updates, which allows any patches or multis to be selected using MIDI Program Changes, CC messages or even by triggering Notes on the keyboard. This new feature makes it easy to create a custom setup for quick patch changes from a controller during a live performance, or from a DAW within a song. This is an especially useful feature for the visually impaired community who can now easily access the sounds via physical buttons and controls.

Omnisphere 2 and Keyscape now also include Spectrasonics brand new “Smart Update” system which makes it much easier to keep a user’s collection of Spectrasonics instruments up to date. With these latest versions, clicking the ”Get Updates" button in the Splash Pane will take you directly to the new Smart Update page where any updates needed to any instruments and libraries in the customer’s User Account will be automatically compiled into a single download. Running one installer will then get your entire Spectrasonics system up to date!

“In Music, sometimes keeping it simple is the most important thing! We are really thrilled to add a long-requested standalone version to each of our plug-ins, and to be able to make these professional instruments accessible to an even wider group of musicians”, said Eric Persing, Creative Director of Spectrasonics. “We are really happy with how easy they are to use, and are especially proud of how they sound!”

The updates include the following new features and improvements:

Omnisphere v2.4 features:
• New Standalone application
• Smart Update system enabled
• Remote control loading of patches and multis via MIDI Program Change, CCs or Notes
• “Enter Parameter Value” feature to set parameter to a specific value
• Up to 2X GUI magnification options
• Added Keyscape Velocity Curve Presets
• Tagging/Library organization improvements
• New Modulation sources: “3-Step” and “4-Step” and Unipolar sources
• Numerous other fixes and enhancements

Keyscape v1.1 features:
• New Standalone application
• Smart Update system enabled
• Remote control loading of patches and multis via MIDI Program Change, CCs or Notes
• “Enter Parameter Value” feature to set parameter to a specific value

• Numerous other fixes and enhancements

It works! The updater is nice too - it's not another new download manager, it just rolls all available updates into one installer. Scaling on the app is definitely handy. One slight irritation - all 3rd party libraries are now rolled into a new submenu named User Directories, reinforcing the feeling that Spectrasonics have never fully embraced the 3rd party scene and making The Unfinished's stuff an extra click away. Grrr.

Here's the full list of Omnisphere changes and fixes:
• New Standalone application
• Smart Update system enabled
• Remote control loading of patches and multis via MIDI Program Change, CCs or Notes
• “Enter Parameter Value” feature to set parameter to a specific value
• Up to 2X GUI magnification options
• New Modulation sources: “3-Step” and “4-Step” and Unipolar sources
• Adds detents to Arpeggiator Speed knob
• MIDI CC learn and host automation can now be used for parameters controlled by menus and radio buttons
• Increases resolution when using Shift key to adjust knobs/sliders values
• Fixes issue where in Logic 10.3 notes could be truncated when transport was started exactly at beginning of a chord
• Eliminates zippering audio artifacts when modulating some parameters
• Fixes issue where re-installing a .omnisphere library caused many dialogs to popup
• Fixes issue where synced LFO lost phase sync when rate was modulated
• Fixes issue where boolean filtering was not working in soundsource browser
• Fixes issue where loading Harmonia presets caused soundsource to get reloaded
• Fixes issue where right-clicking to modulate cutoff with envelope didn't work
• Fixes issue where low-level noise was produced in Mainstage host when chorus effect was on
• Fixes issue where Pro-Verb “Freeze” parameter was not behaving as expected
• Fixes issue where browser category resets to “All” after multiple categories are selected
• Fixes issue where “Undo” caused FX parameters to change unexpectedly after save
• Fixes issue where the LFO Rate param display was incorrect when sync was Off
• Fixes issue with the Arpeggiator on factory patch “Analog Bass Drive”
• Fixes issue where ProVerb “Predelay” parameter did not restore correctly when host buffer is >= 2048
• Fixes issue where Publish Library menu would show no items if STEAM was within folder named “Factory”
• Fixes issue where filter switch was not immediate
• Fixes issue where patches with several Innerspace effect units took a long time to load
• Fixes issue where UVI filter could produce a noise burst
• Fixes issue where Legato samples would only play in one layer
• Fixes crash related to Thriftshop speaker
• Fixes issue where a .omnisphere file couldn't be installed from Windows top-level folder
• Fixes issue where Harmonia waveform menu showed doubled text for Synth Osc
• Fixes issue where Arpeggiator Speed knob could get stuck if adjusting while Alt was pressed
• Fixes a minor memory leak
• Fixes issue where plugin can deadlock when adjusting arpeg parameters
• NOTE: Patches saved in version 2.4 or later are not compatible with older versions of Omnisphere
...and Kalimbascope has gone (no tears, please) - rolled into Ethnic World.

Cool, thanks for the heads up.

Do the Tagging/Library organization improvements meet your expectations, Guy? I know this has been a sore spot for you.

I can hear the collective groan from everyone as you asked that question - "please no...."

I've just looked back at my totally-ignored-by-everyone open letter I wrote here - https://www.thesoundboard.net/viewtopic ... 555&p=6184 (go on, it's a real fun read). Almost everything there still stands. It's been nearly three years since release and all those big conflicts and usability areas haven't been acknowledged, still less addressed. But - thankful for small mercies - some of the smallest things have now been fixed. Yes, after 3 years (with this being someone's full time job, remember) we now just have Bells Ambient and not the intriguingly different Ambient Bells. What's that? Can I hear bells of joy tolling? And, for example, the number of lead synths in the EDM bank has doubled - no new patches, but they finally tagged them properly so there's a cat in hell's chance of finding some when you look.

So there has been a small baby step improvement, but all the heavy lifting is still to do.
