The Triton came out past my time of gigging so I never got my hands on the hardware version. Is the software version still sort of retro awesome? The hardware was well received back in the day if I recall correctly.

The Triton is said to be very authentic and is well liked. But my feeling is that the software today is so much less meaningful than the hardware was back then. It is / was a workstation workhorse that did it all brilliantly and doesn't have - AFAIK - anything special synthesis wise. What is unique to the sound at this point? The answer in these sorts of things tends to be "some famous presets", most of which tie it in to an era.

Some of those analogs in the collection now would be awfully nice. I'm in the usual position. I know I don't need any of collection, but a lot of it sounds gorgeous.

Nice price! I have picked my cherries over the years, Mono/Poly, MS-20, M1 and Wavestation (with its fabulous "Slow pad" preset) so I'm good.

in the same boat with Thomas, over time I've collected the ones I really wanted - MS-20, Polysix,Mono/Poly, Wavestation, MDE-X, and M1, and the M1 doesn't get a lot of use. It might be interesting to pick up their interpretation of the 2600 and Odyssey, maybe the PS-3300, but I can't justify the cost or disk space

Absolute steal. Worth the price of admission for the Triton, Trinity, EP1, and SGX2 alone. Everything else is a nice bonus (particularly the M1 and ARP2600). KCollection is one of the best bundles out there, IMO, seriously top-quality software instruments.

I'm 100% convinced these are all excellent instruments, but I'm less convinced I need them! Where do you find them invaluable in the studio?

That PG-3300 is making me drool, even though I know I'm unlikely to explore its depths. It somehow looks more friendly that most of the big modulars - you can so quickly see the four main sections, three of which are identical sets of oscillators, filters, envelopes etc. Visually it's such a good, clear design it makes it look Fischer Price next to a Moog Modular - but in a good way! Also those temperament adjustments look unique, and raise interesting possibilities for manually tweaking / automating just one note of a chord.

Well, I actually find the Triton extremely useful for writing while on the road – I don't want to take external SSDs with me when I'm living out of hotel rooms (which is a lot), but I also want some decent sounds to work with. Triton has a reasonably phenomenal set of all the workhorse sounds, as does the Roland XV5080, so I frequently write and demo just using those and various other lean virtual instruments while traveling. But I've grown to like them so much that I'll use them at home in proper productions, too.

The SGX2 is, honestly, one of the best all-in-one acoustic piano packages out there at the moment, IMO. Very playable, sound wonderful, highly tweakable, and lots of options. Same goes for EP1, it's probably my favorite Rhodes/Wurli engine after Keyscape and VTines/Reeds.

Korg's ARP2600 is probably my favorite software version of that fine instrument, and as a big Herbie and Joe Z fan, I find it quite valuable.
