Damn. I just bought the Baldwin Parlor Grand (which I like despite a few programming weirdnesses).

Priced squarely to bypass my impulse control. I bought it.

That layer mixer is actually kind of neat even by itself. Some pretty cool ambiences there that could be used independently of the piano. It's a bit too reactive to the sustain pedal though, where these built-up ambient tones abruptly vanish when you repedal.

The piano itself is rather nice and full of character. There's not much going on above mf though in terms of dynamic response, so it's really clearly built for a specific vibe (unsurprisingly), as compared to Spitfire's felt in the Olafur toolkit which has a couple extra layers in the upper dynamics.

Will dabble a bit more on the weekend.

I have this general rule - I have enough libraries! Well, I do make exceptions for oddities, but pianos long ago left that category.

I have a second rule - I don't listen to library demos.

I broke the second rule.

I downloaded it today and spent a bit of time with it.

It’s really nice. I like the “atmosphere” layers and the “colour” control works really well to.
I’ll be using it loads.

Lovely sound. Combined it with the Bohemian Cello and just started to write.

Listened to the demos, tried to do my own using AIR's Loom (for sparkles), PE-3000 from Synth Magic (for "strings") and Spitfires Simcock Felt Piano, each layer going to a different reverb and the sparkles were sent to Glitch Machines Hysteresis. Not that far off, saved that multi-patch, very inspiring.

I guess the positives are-it’s not much money, and there it is. No work or time required.

Yes, ease of use and it has a really nice sound out of the box. A good idea!

I really like this instrument, the layers, the imperfections.

This piece wasn’t written with it, but I do very much like the way this piano highlights the intimate and vulnerable feeling I had when writing it. My only little gripe would be that the extraneous noises built-in (not the ones you control) can sometimes be a little too present, and I thought I even heard a little bit of repetition.

Is it just me or are the lower notes much less powerful than the higher ones? If you play a downward scale from c4 to c3, f3 is noticeably quieter than g3. Or maybe it just feels that way because the lower notes are duller. Could be 'natural' behaviour with the practice felt on. But as it is I think I'll have to support the bass with something else (synth pulse, an upright bass, another piano, anything really) as I don't think the lower octaves on the Woodchester come through enough on their own.

The lower notes are definitely less powerful. But as this piano will not likely be used as an instrument for “vigorous” pieces, it seems enough to me to find the right sample layer through velocity.

And the lower notes are indeed quite lower, but didn't bother me with this piano.
Here a bit noodling around with a patch from Novo Intimate Textures added and played it as a multi.
