2 new Rhodes emulations: Lounge Lizard 5 and Magic Tines

Two new (well: updated) Rhodes emulations:
(1) AAS Lounge Lizard finally moves from v4 to v5
(2) GSi reworked their existing Rhodes hybrid synthesis model into Magic Tines.

The new Lizard (which does both tines and reeds electric pianos) is introduced at $149 (regular price will be $199) but owners of an earlier version can upgrade for a price between $49 and $79 (depending on the version you upgrade from).
GSi’s Magic Tines sells for €50 except when you already own MrRay MkII, in which case the price is €35.

An interesting comparison, not only of products but also demos. They both sound good to me but the Lounge Lizard is demo’d with a much more bravura style of performance that might make it more attractive upon listening.

I would have been delighted to have either and a nice light MIDI controller back when I was hauling way too much poundage (a Fender Stage and a Hammond) to gigs.

Strangely, Rhodes released a Wurlitzer VI this week:

Best,

Geoff

I’m impressed, Larry. I just had the Rhodes, myself. That sounds like a lot to haul around!

Best,

Geoff

Ditto, Larry….a Rhodes suitcase and a Hammond B3 with a Leslie 122 were both a blessing and curse back in my days of playing in a band. The day that we were finally able to afford helpers remains one of the best days of my life. 😄 And why did so many venues require climbing a set of stairs? Good thing all that was.’ then.’ and not now.

One of the guys carrying his end of my Hammond M3 up a steep flight of outdoor stairs in Virginia Beach had a lung collapse…and we were 18-20!

I’m presently using Gospel Musicians Neo-Soul Keys Studio 2 and I like it a lot, but there really are a bunch out there. The Lounge Lizard has some nice crunchiness. I wish I had more need for Rhodes and Wurly emulations these days.

Nice, little introduction to, and history of the Rhodes piano:

and a series of Rhodes-loving musician profiles here.

I played a Wurlitzer 140 for years, then a 200, then a Rhodes sparkle top suitcase.

I have several great virtual ones now, no need for others.

been searching for a module (hardware) with a decent Rhodes sound to bring to gigs when piano isn't available for many years... last year I bought me the Yamaha CP mini keyboard and have used a couple times as a sound expander, not bad at all. Works in mono too, something which comes in handy on stages sometimes
