Mark Ronson on recording Amy Winehouse's Back To Black

Fascinating video here pulling apart the original demo recorded in less than a day, Mark and Amy's first collaboration.
It's a shame it doesn't go on to what changed for the final recording, but the simplicity here (and the stock PT plugins) inspire me. With each passing year I care less about the tools and more about the relationship between artists and producers.

Love it, Guy.
She left us far too soon. Ronson certainly learned his craft. What an excellent producer and what a fine musician he is.
Over the course of many years, I haven’t had a lot of collaborators and I’m not a great collaborator. In 2009 I did some very collaborative work with a young singer/songwriter that went well, and now my partner Abby and I about to drop a second album’s worth of material. We’ve been working together since 2023 (as time permits.)
What struck me about some of what Ronson was saying was that the artist (obviously) throws in production ideas along with the ones that the producer suggests . That’s the way it works for Abby and I.-I’m sitting at the keyboard and the computer, Abby’s singing ….so perhaps I’m a bit more of the producer, but Abby has really good ideas that improve our productions.
It’s great to find someone you can work with in that way. Co-writing, co-arranging, co-producing, etc..

So happy for your collaboration with someone you love, Larry. That really is the good stuff.
