A DIY Mini Mac Pro

Thought this might appeal to some here - an ingenious dock for the M4 Mini that turns it into a Mini Pro.

As well as adding legacy USB A ports and card reader, you can add 16TB of NVMe storage. It will drive three monitors.

The top spec M4 mini is limited to 32gb of RAM, which is the main drawback for DAW use. I think I'd get away with it using my disabled VE Pro template, but I appreciate many don't want to work that way.

The dock is £179, and a 1TB 32GB RAM Mini is £1,400.

No Guy, this dock does not magically transform a Mac mini M4 into a Pro, and 32 Gig Ram max are not the only main drawback.

Apart from 273 GB/s, compared to 120 GB/s bandwidth, the Pro Version has 10 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, instead of 4 pc and 6 ec, 20 GPU cores instead of 10, and provides thunderbolt 5 instead of thunderbolt 4.

It's tongue in cheek, Georg! Of course it's not a literal Pro as the specs demonstrate. But it's still a helluva spec for the price, and an M4 processor vs the M2 range on the real thing (yes, the M2 has an Ultra version though).

I'm not gonna jump cos the switch from PC to Mac for my VE Pro template would mean months of work. Also I'd need 4 monitors not 3. But in all other ways I think this would do me, which is extraordinary.

I see, British humour escapes me at times. *shrugs*

The Syntesla Giorgio III is Hans Zimmers new mobile modular, would probably be along these lines of humor.
