Re: 2 new Rhodes emulations: Lounge Lizard 5 and Magic Tines
been searching for a module (hardware) with a decent Rhodes sound to bring to gigs when piano isn't available for many years... last year I bought me the Yamaha CP mini keyboard and have used a couple times as a sound expander, not bad at all. Works in mono too, something which comes in handy on ...

Re: Can you be objective about your material?
I always enjoy hearing that genius composers (Daryl, Rob, just to name two in this thread) have the same struggles with self doubt as I, a worker in the trenches, experience. I also enjoy the tales of overcoming those voices, which one has to do to carry on. not a genius either, Larry, but thanks ...

Re: Can you be objective about your material?
I can't stand listening to my music, in the immediate. In that sense I'm not objective, because I despise all that I produce, even if some of it objectively must be good. If enough time has passed, and better still if I don't know it's my music I'm listening to, I become pretty objective and make ...

Re: Native Instruments Summer of Sound 2025 (inc mini reviews)
I have the percussion from the Symphony series and have had good use for it... the price for completing the series is 59,90 for me, hard to resist I caved in, too good to pass... must say, the strings are rather good, a nice warm tone and legato/portamento aren't bad. Was expecting much worse ...

Re: Templates again, and process
I’m absolutely incapable of being organised and work with a template, never been. But I have saved Ve Pro configurations for different projects that help me when I need some particular instrumentations, as well as Kontakt or Opus multis, so something like “template building blocks“ if you will.

Re: Music That Stands The Test of Time
I still have affection for Jethro Tull, Vand Der Graaf and Genesis' production from the 70s, and they still evoke feelings the rare times I listen to them, but the quality of the songs appears to be not as shining as it felt then. Still, the amount of inventiveness those young musicians put in their ...

Re: Morricone - The Thing
The 15 disc-set Morricone - The Complete Edition (*) gives a pretty good idea of the unique width and depth of Morricone’s genius. It goes from vulgar kitch — and I use that description in the most positive and even deeply admiring sense — through bizarre electro-acoustic sonic experiments, ligh ...

Re: Morricone - The Thing
Wow, I can't even comprehend how great it must be to dive into his works. Congratulations Rob. I always found that he is the master of absorbing the evolution of music of the late 19th and 20th century with him and then take bits and pieces and mold them into scores that work for the movies and ...

Re: Morricone - The Thing
This must be unbelievable interesting. Since I read the fabulous book Ennio Morricone which is basically a long very deep interview, I understood how deeply involved EM was in 20th century new music and it was basically his roots as a composer. Not something you might expect if you only know his ...

Morricone - The Thing
I've had the luck of being put in connection with Giovanni Morricone, since about an year, to work on proofreading his father's scores and sometimes putting together little suites for live performances. The job is still going on as these are hundreds, some of them I had never heard of... so I ...

Re: Lexicon PCM finally gets VST3 and Apple Silicon updates..
install was straightforward for me, now in Cubase I have the new ones each in its own sub-folder and the older ones in an "Other" folder. Don't know how much I'll be using them but it's nice to have them updated

Re: Sibilance problem
Seems so. I have a choice and I’m loading the mono version. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but try the stereo. I find if I load a mono Waves effect on a stereo channel in Cubase it only affects the left. yes that's happened to me as well, though not with this particular plugin (bcause I don't ...

Thanks Duncan, nice music too… the reverb sounds very clean but to me it’s so different that it’s hard to compare with the others. Sounds dry-ish in general

Re: Orchestral Tools / MIRRORS
It’s an interesting concept, though I don’t see an application for myself… even imagine I could sorta do it with my libraries, less detailed probably This one looks and sounds very well done. But I guess it's doing something I often do manually - pick a good semi-acoustic patch from something like F ...

Re: Miroslav Philharmonik 2 $29.99
Version 2 is the new one correct? The new samples were an awful mess, like a project abandoned before it was finished. I still have it somewhere… the real value was the original samples were included, well organised and categorised which were the edition costing thousands. I remember having re-s ...

Re: Re-learning plug ins from scratch
Not just plug-ins. I wrote a well regarded book about the score editor in Logic Pro, but since these days I rarely am hired to print out scores for other composers because they don’t have the budget for a live orchestra , I mostly just do chord charts and lead sheets. So when I am called upon to do ...

Re: Re-learning plug ins from scratch
True about trying to get a natural singing from Synth V, though in my case I have not tried to go there yet… the default output is good enough for sketching. I have the same problem re-learning plugins when I haven’t used them for a while, and even programs. Like after a year using Sibelius exc ...
