Re: Native Instruments Summer of Sound 2025 (inc mini reviews)

So it leaves existing plugins alone? I’m trying to really really clarify, pardon my stupidity. Yes. As said, it will likely offer optional updates to some of your existing products. The main risk there is that will offer some library updates that rely on a newer version of Kontakt to work. The only ...

Re: Native Instruments Summer of Sound 2025 (inc mini reviews)

You only install what you want, and you can set content install paths for wherever you like. It doesn't touch anything existing by default, though you will likely get offered a lot of optional updates. Be wary if the specs there.

I find Native Access 2 solid.

Self doubt and confidence are both essential but disastrous in high enough doses.

Re: Can you be objective about your material?

I re-listened to that 90s lo-fi indie library album a while back. It was an interesting experience. I liked quite a lot, a few failures. I seem to care more about lyrics than I used to. I have no appreciation of poetry at all (I am an absolute philistine), but I can tell clumsy lyric-writing and I ...

Re: East West HOOPUS $179 - first week of June only

That's great to hear Tobias. HOOPUS is a pretty rare beast. For instant playable gratification, for scoring 15 minutes a day on big orchestrated patches, it can't be beat. But it can also do the details, and there's some fantastic articulations in there. I'd been too snobby to try the Sordino button ...

Re: VE Pro 7 has Kontakt auto migration

I was an early VE Pro adopter and as far back as 2010 I wrote about how to use it with Logic Pro in my book “Going Pro With Logic Pro 8.” But with the ability to save groups of instruments in Logic Pro’s library, Logic’s improved CPU efficiency, and now having a faster and more powerful computer, co ...

I've been back-and-forthing with support. Seems like they need more examples of automation-busted projects, so if you have one please email to:

Re: VE Pro 7 has Kontakt auto migration

Just to add everyone seems in the same boat, the automation bug for third party plugins is NOT fixed in VEP 7.3.43724.

I'm sticking on 7.3725 for the time being, that's the last known good.

Re: Native Instruments Summer of Sound 2025 (inc mini reviews)

Oh god, Valves Pro, why did I never got this, so much fun to play in ensemble mode, lost an hour that should be used elsewhere. This and session percussion are worth the upgrade price alone It's pretty gorgeous, isn't it? And as you say just lovely to play. And that's how I see Komplete. If you ...

Re: VE Pro 7 has Kontakt auto migration

An update is live that should fix the automation problem. Sadly, automation is still not working in my template. Oh that's disappointing. From the changelog, 7.3.43724 (June 3 2025) says: FIXED Vienna Imperial Player did not validate Projects could no longer save & recall automation data for ...

Re: East West HOOPUS $179 - first week of June only

Worth it for a second computer, I would think. (if I remember correctly, a license only works for one computer.) Ah ha, amazingly they do now give you a 2nd license on request if you ask for one. I did and they had deposited it in the iLok account within an hour. East West used to be the whipping ...

Pro Tools Forte - batch importer and exporter

A new app from Avid that integrates with Pro Tools. There's separate Import and Export parts - with Import it can take a bunch of WAVs and turn them into a prepped session all routed and ready to go, with Export it can create batches of mixes. https://youtu.be/v488TYlK32k?si=VJ508u9GXkHoto9l It is ...

Making the Terminator 2 score

There's some wackiness here and there, but this is a great video that digs into the very idiosyncratic score for Terminator 2, almost entirely made on 2 Fairlight CMI series 3s. https://youtu.be/nnpYowxlwsU?si=vZdK3MtCp8L-QL4Y Those 8-bit voice cards were vital to giving the film its sound. It has ...

Bono wrote Surrender: 40 Songs And One Story in 2022. Here's what I wrote at the time (in the archived Books thread): Surrender: 40 Songs One Story Bono https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41fBVrlOzNL.jpg So this is the rehabilitation of the much vilified, intolerable terrible singer Bono. "Oh ...

Capturing a moment

I've always had a soft spot for MGMT's lofi electro anthem Kids. A few months ago a daft video surfaced of the duo singing to backing track in 2003, outdoors on a college campus to handful of enthusiastic onlookers, 4 years before it was a global phenomenon. There is something genuinely delightful ...

Re: Templates again, and process

All of what everyone is saying about their ways of working makes sense to me. It’s definitely composer specific. Is everyone using disabled tracks, and if so within your DAW or in VEP? Guy, did disabling in Cubase ever stop messing up routing? I thiiiink it's been solid now for a while on multi o ...

Re: Templates again, and process

Do you add new libraries and squash bugs (assuming you get any) as you go, Guy? I do - and it only really works cos I always work uncoupled. Case in point, I got a new hard drive a couple of months back and moved some stuff around, forgetting it included some obscure samples in my VE Pro template ...

Re: Templates again, and process

I explored something like this Thomas in Cubase, but it's clunky as hell to use track presets or archives. Just horrible. In Pro Tools I think it would work really well though, their track preset implementation is super-slick. As it is, I do have my skeleton template which sounds similar to yours ...
