Re: Virharmonic Cello released [update - expansion 1 out now]

If I were VIR, I'd not have led with their first improv in the video, which seemed to have a lot of issues. The later demos in the video where the three emotions are compared - to my ears these are, excellent. My own experience is that it is quite possible to play an improv and it not be great here ...

No time to even look at this, but I'll be road testing it in the next couple of days. https://youtu.be/uvvnXvOkAyk https://www.virharmonic.com/bohemian_cello 4.9Gb or 22Gb Installed based on your version selected from Download, 62Gb Original uncompressed content. 35000+ Samples recorded @96khz 24bit...

Re: Native Instruments: Expansions

One thing that appears to be a bit of a shame is that for Battery, I think it'll just be appearing as user kits, with no tagging (there's my hobby horse again). I think you get some tags if going va Komplete Kontrol, but that's likely to be pretty basic. A real plus of Battery is that you can search...

Native Instruments: Expansions

Well it's taken them long enough, but they finally figured out that they can sell expansions for Battery and some of their synths. They seem to be all genre-based bundles - so it might have stuff for Battery, Maschine, Massive and Prism for example. While lots won't be of too much interest here, I'v...

Spitfire Audio: Alternative Solo Strings

https://youtu.be/j1WHHaS4X2k Spitfire Audio has released Alternative Solo Strings, alternative take on a sampled solo strings library for Native Instruments' Kontakt, with performances by four progressive string soloists; Violin (Warren Zielinski), Viola (Joel Hunter), Cello (Chris Worsey), and Doub...

Re: Vengeance Producer Suite - Avenger synth [1.3.1 FM cross modulation out now]

I think all you need to stop it being EDM is turn off the default reverb and delay - that's it! It is incredibly versatile. Really all I'd like is a nice self-oscillating analogue filter. I agree they have pretty much thought of everything else, from synthesis options to the ease with which you can ...

Re: Zebra Nordsund - The Unfinished

Interesting observation from your friend! It does seem quite cold and hard, and no noticeable difference from many other soft synths I have. It goes without saying that talented programmers like Matt, Hans and Howard Scarr can produce brilliance with it, but I don't think there's anything sonically ...

Re: Zebra Nordsund - The Unfinished

Hmm, I think for now I'll stay away from Zebra. I re-tried the demo and two overwhelming thoughts - 1, I don't get excited by the sound and 2, I can't face learning another synth. It would be lovely to have Matt's patches, but what with all the Horizons and Colloususes I'm not starved for moody dark...

Re: Zebra Nordsund - The Unfinished

You doubtless could Paul, but it’s the thought of a huge body of patches (if that’s a thing) that is Scandi Noir that tempts me. The Dark Zebra never floated my boat cos it felt like yesterday’s news, but this feels much more me. Just been reading up, and i see there are Diva filters in Zebra HZ, wh...

Oh you are not yet on Zebra Guy?
No, honestly I've never felt I need it. Really I still don't, but this is just a bit too juicy a proposition.

I saw mention somewhere of this being for Zebra and Dark Zebra - do you need both or something?

Dammit this might tip me over the edge for Zebra. Congrats to Matt - designing the synth sounds for The Bridge is peak Scandi.

Re: Rogue Amoeba / Farrago, a 'soundboard' app

In the UK - and I believe much of the world - TV studios all use windows-only software called SpotOn made by Serialtech. At its core, it looks similar to this, and I've been waiting for a cross-platform that has a pro feature set. This seems at a glance sadly not to be that product. It is mac-only, ...

Re: Avid Pro Tools 2018 Released

(On the last para - I think I've had that once or twice too, though not for a while. Sadly I don't think so... phpBB is pretty basic when it comes to this, which is both a good and a bad thing at times).

Re: Avid Pro Tools 2018 Released

Sorry, missed this yesterday X. I believe that there is a way to run two versions of PT but it involved a bodge which scared me so I've never gone down that road. You're right that there aren't dramatic differences between 11 and 2018 - I think PT will always look and feel like PT, there won't be an...

Re: Vengeance Producer Suite - Avenger synth [1.3.1 FM cross modulation out now]

For some reason Massive never appealed to me - the GUI and layout always felt impenetrable even though clearly its a very capable synth. There's something about Avengers big layout with those modulation drag and drops that totally works for me, along with the nice signal path components etc. It posi...

Re: Vengeance Producer Suite - Avenger synth [1.3.1 FM cross modulation out now]

Yeah, it’s terrific. The most fun to program bar none. Very versatile. Maybe not the absolute ultimate in emulating analogue filters, but not too shabby there as you can hopefully hear here.

I've also posted this in the patches section of the forum, but I've done a 2nd tiny little bank of patches for Avenger https://youtu.be/fIecTzXBe9c Lots of analogue sounding arps here as before, with a few more variations this time. You can download it here https://app.box.com/s/d7hrvbld6fdzlplzt0lw...

Re: Avid Pro Tools 2018 Released

Yes, have it all working fine in PT - sometimes. I have 2 issues which might be related. In a large project, opening a K5 instance from quick load causes a PT crash, but fine on a blank instance. Deleting 2 or more multichannel instances from a track preset of any VI also causes a crash. Have a case...

Re: Avid Pro Tools 2018 Released

Just as an FYI, did some tests yesterday. Created Track Presets for multichannel instances of Omnisphere and Superior Drummer 3, the former with 8 midi tracks / auxes, the latter with 1 midi track and 5 auxes. Both work like a charm. Except - if I have more than one of the same track preset and then...

Re: For the next 4 days only: PSP Xenon for $29 instead of $249

Well I don't have Xenon so I'm not the right person to ask, but it looks like a very good product that combines brickwall limiting with loudness targeting. If you don't have that, then it looks like an excellent buy at this price. However I do have that in several variants, so it just doesn't make a...

Re: Avid Pro Tools 2018 Released

...yes, track presets should really help there Anders as there's a new option to just import sends or inserts. Just right click a send / insert and there it is. The more I realised what I could do, the more I began to see it as a revolutionary feature.

Re: Avid Pro Tools 2018 Released

Yes, I'm aware of the hack but couldn't get too excited about that, it was just a nice-to-have. But the real version is, imo, 100x more useful than the hack. It delights and thrills me that I can right click an aux send and create any track with my effect (or effect chain) set up perfectly, everythi...

Avid Pro Tools 2018 Released

A new numbering system, and a fair few new features. Most significant, perhaps, is Track Presets. What, you say, only now releasing something every other DAW has had for years? Well yes, but I have to say having tried it, that its implementation is second to none. It can store all info including sen...
