Re: Hollywood Strings 2
Just a thought on clip-on mics used for the close: This is actually used a ton in life, but not in conventional orchestral studio recording. Any amplified live performance is likely gonna use clip-ons. So there might be a specialist use for this library if you want that sound for whatever reason. Ho...

Re: Hollywood Strings 2
Sorry, I meant the difference between the sections Linos. But doubtless my old ears are, um smoothing things out for me.
It's a shame the walkthough doesn't go through each mic position individually at any point (unless I missed it).

Re: Hollywood Strings 2
I don't hear it that dramatically tbh. But I did think those 2nd, 3rd and 4th notes in particular of the violas at 7.25 sound like sample restarts not legato transitions to me.

Re: IZotope RX11
Laura - thanks, well sleuthed. Hello jester700 - at my IPS demo thing we did have DxRevive and it is extremely good. Quality and artefact-wise it wasn't quite as clean as Hush Pro though, and also inexplicably it doesn't do the reverse where you leave only the noise. But on the plus side DxRevive ca...

Re: IZotope RX11
Hey, I got an email offer to update my Post Production Suite to the new RX11 for $399. Didn't think I wanted it, but I logged in to see the details and the offer jumped to £951.53. I even cleared the cookies. Curious, I went to contact support to see what was going on, but there now appears to be ab...

Re: Best Service new Engine Player released
It works. Seemed fairly tedious to find my way around to find and activate the library, and there seems a lot of clicking just to get going when you launch. But essentially it sounds the same, instrument gui looks the same but in a slicker wrapper. FWIW my single accordian Player library takes up 1....

Re: IZotope RX11
Thanks Geoff, quite right forgot to mention that. It uses the GPU of the Silicon processors. I was chatting with the developer (just one guy, very friendly chap) and he was saying “never say never” about a Windows version though it’s unlikely due to the GPU thing and him working alone. I’m hoping he...

Re: IZotope RX11
So I'm curious what the competition has been doing that RX needs to catch up with? I think the most pressing need for better noise reduction has been dialogue clean up rather than music use to be honest. A few weeks ago I ran a demo room at the UK’s Institute for Professional Sound. A parade of exc...

IZotope RX11
RX11 is on the way. Anyone buying RX10 now gets RX11 on release for free. No word on features, except it will allegedly be a ‘big update packed with exciting new features”. It needs to be big, iZotope have fallen way behind the competition. Will be interesting to see if this corrects the trend. Ther...

Pro Tools: some price increases
Tl;dr - some monthly subs have gone up and Ultimate perpetual support plan has gone from $399 to $499, which is pretty eye-watering. The good news - Perpetual Studio is unchanged, and they haven’t rowed back on the reinstatement fee, so you can skip all updates til there’s something you really need....

Re: The Happy Thread Of Free
Not entirely happy this one, as Spectral Plugins have decided to cease development. However three of their plugins are now available for free and they sound interesting: Spacer Spacer has five effects modules which can be linked in any order to generate infinite FX combinations, but are also designe...

Best Service new Engine Player: Quetzal released
Best Service Engine has been the last major holdout from Apple Silicon, with the wonderful Eduardo Tarialonte’s libraries stuck in Rosetta mode. While those libraries are not yet available, the all-new Engine Player is now released and bundled with the Organum Venezia library - https://www.bestservi...

Orchestral Tools: Monolith (first recording at Air Studios)
It was teased on April 1st, but it wasn’t an April Fool: https://youtu.be/jrDuVeXVbwI?si=CA3u5pOyMp1Xg5ap Monolith puts an otherwise unattainable collection of rare and antique drums at your fingertips—a choir of 53 big drums, carefully tuned and voiced, playable as ensembles and as single instrumen...

Re: Hollywood Strings 2
It's a bit curious, isn't it? So often people criticise libraries for having too much baked in vibrato, and yet here when seemingly everything is pure nv until the last 15s... it sounds awfully flat. The trouble is that that piece sounds like it should have a good amount of expression. Perhaps a dif...

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Percussion 1.1 update
ProjectSAM kindly asked if I’d be interested in reviewing Lineage., with a 1.0 NFR copy. I thought it sounded amazing, but in practice I had quite a few issues. None of the supplied kits covered the most logical ground in the smallest space, and the supplied kit-builder seemed pretty buggy. I just c...

Re: Pro Tools Intro (free) and 2022.9 Melodyne ARA2 integration
I set a friend up with my old 2015 Macbook Pro today. He's an actor is getting into audio book work. He already has a decent Audio Technica mic and some decent sound nous. Pro Tools Intro is fantastic - he'll never want more than a handful of tracks, and in almost every operational regard it is as f...

Re: The Happy Thread Of Free
I have FAR too many synths so I sympathise, Bill. I do like Pigments very much, it's my favourite of the digital synths I have (I've never bonded with Massive X for example), but of course I don't need it. If you are tempted, I think there's a $99 deal once you check out of the free Audio Plugins th...
