Re: And now, Brian Wilson…
I think you can go up to 1977, more specifically the strange “Love You” album (bizarrely, a favourite of both Michael Stipe and Patti Smith, the latter who, until that album, had never any interest in, let alone appreciation for The Beach Boys), to hear the last small sparks of Brian Wilson’s remar ...

Re: Room360 - Spatializer
Sounds very useful and there is a small void in my plug-in toolbox where something like Room360 would certainly fit, but when I tried to demo it (as an AU in Logic) I ran into all sorts of problems, so serious that restarting Logic wasn’t enough to make them go away; I had to restart my Mac. Not a g ...

2 new Rhodes emulations: Lounge Lizard 5 and Magic Tines
Two new (well: updated) Rhodes emulations: (1) AAS Lounge Lizard finally moves from v4 to v5 (2) GSi reworked their existing Rhodes hybrid synthesis model into Magic Tines . The new Lizard (which does both tines and reeds electric pianos) is introduced at $149 (regular price will be $199) but owners ...

Re: East West HOOPUS $179 - first week of June only
I bit.
Needs an awful lot of HD space, doesn’t it? Couldn’t even install just the strings (around 415 gig) on an HD that has 700 gig free space. (Probably the amount of free space required needs to be at least twice the size of the download.)

Re: UAD Polymax synth FREE until June 30
One of my favourite soft synths.
But it has to be added: when it comes to (soft-)synths, I'm a pathetically simple and terribly old-fashioned individual.

Re: IK Multimedia / MODO Bass 2
I'm still of much the same opinion as I was three years ago (see my post above). In fact, last year, when cleaning up my plug-ins folder, I uninstalled MODO Bass 2 — MODO 1 giving me everything I expect from this software — and it was only after reading your post, yuroyuro — a very warm welcome, by t ...

Re: Morricone - The Thing
The 15 disc-set Morricone - The Complete Edition (*) gives a pretty good idea of the unique width and depth of Morricone’s genius. It goes from vulgar kitch — and I use that description in the most positive and even deeply admiring sense — through bizarre electro-acoustic sonic experiments, ligh ...

Re: Saturn 2 - More than saturation
MD3Sign has a preset pack for Saturn 2 that contains 111 presets for mixing and mastering. I have no idea if this pack contains anything worth purchasing and the text on the product page is so over the top — “We successfully delivered something that world never experienced before.” — that it dissuad ...

Re: Until May 14th: Softube Model 82 (a virtual SH-101) for $29
My first two synths, in my TASCAM Portastudio days (my late teens - early twenties), were a Roland JX-3P and an SH-101. Fairly sure that the sonic palette of the Model82 can be more or less provided by plenty of other softsynths, but there's something about the utter simplicity of an SH-101, real or ...

Re: Until May 14th: Softube Model 82 (a virtual SH-101) for $29
(...) Is there a band or prominent song that featured it back in the day? Where to begin? And where to end? The SH-101 — famously not a commercial success at first for Roland, even considered a complete failure — was picked up by the dance producers of the late 80's an quickly became pretty much omn ...

If you’re into sound design or like (or require) unusual sounds to work with, or if you’re interested in very innovative and creative synth development, you must have a look at the new Anukari 3D Physics Synthesizer , a commercial beta of which is currently available (for $70 instead of $140, which w ...

Another nice little instrument from Somerville: the Prototype Gentle Vibes. ('Prototype' is the name of their donationware series.) Mozart's "The Magic Flute" for chamber strings
In the days before it was possible to record music and then distribute it on vinyl or digitally, in short: before the 20th century and the arrival of mass media, many pieces of music — symphonies and (popular tunes from) operas especially — were often transcribed for piano and/or small ensembles so t ...

Demoed it for a couple of days last week. Not going to buy it.
