Re: Bolder Sounds / Fiddle!

Wow Larry - you nailed the feel of a fiddle in that one. I agree about the tone, but if I could teach Strad to do that I'd be tickled. That said, I spent a little time with the Bolder fiddle last night, and I'm starting (I think) to get the hang of it. It may be that the demos are not (for a change)...

Re: Bolder Sounds / Fiddle!

I'm avidly waiting for something to allow me to give up my finicky Garritan Strad for this use, but ...sadly, not yet. The fast runs sound synthy to me, and some of the turnarounds don't sound like they connect to the legatos. Just my .02. I am right there with you Larry! Every time I fire up Strad...

Re: NI Session Strings Pro 2 & Komplete 12 rumours/leak [now inc TRK-01, Middle East and summer half price sale]

Hmmm...

So far I think I'll grab the Kontakt 6 upgrade immediately, not sure if there is much I don't have in Komplete 12, so I may pass on that.

I wish there was more info on the Kontakt updates, but the Lua support strikes me as interesting.

Re: iZotope RX7 (plus up to 50% off sale)

uh-oh, Guy and I might be in agreement here???? I was late upgrading to RX6, I was really quite happy with RX5, but yeah, there are some neat tricks in 6, and I will probably download the demo for 7 when it arrives. For anyone doing sound design or audio post for video I can't think of a better tool...

Re: omnisphere 2.5 released

Not ideal (I really like your description Guy) but I am considering one or more of the Stereoping controllers and programmers. They'd be much better if they were dynamic, since I can really only control one synth at a time, and I've had conversations with them about this, but so far to no avail. Sti...

Re: Toontrack Action EZX

I'm a pretty loyal Toontrack fan-boy - have been since the days of DFH for Giga - and I own quite a few of their MIDI packs, EZ-Keys packs, and DFHS2 (still haven't upgraded to DFHS3 yet, but will before the end of the year I suppose). This is the first product announcement in a very long time that ...

Re: Softube / NI bundle sale up to 75% off

<snippity> Maybe my ears are shot, but I don't hear such an incredible difference. I doubt that your ears are shot, many of the differences are very subtle. Sometimes that is important to the person producing the track, sometimes it is not. I used C1 for ages, and I still turn to it (or C4) when I ...

Re: Softube / NI bundle sale up to 75% off

We do seem to have very similar tastes! Working backwards... I think almost all the Precision plugins are wonderful, and do exactly what they say. I don't often feel the need to use them, but when I want them they really are the only thing that does the trick. In addition to Precision K I'd add the ...

Re: Softube / NI bundle sale up to 75% off

Well as the Softube "fanboy" I've become lately I must say that upgrading from Vol 1 to Vol 2 was a no-brainer. Sadly I already owned enough of their plugins that the upgrade to Vol 1 was not attractive, and since then the upgrade to Vol 2 has become even less attractive! (That, and I do have the U...

Re: Softube / NI bundle sale up to 75% off

We're veering off topic a little, but can you describe in words what makes the UAD LA2A sound / behave differently? All I really know is that the original technology was optical (somehow) and people eulogise over its magical properties. 'I think I mentioned earlier that I do not turn to the LA2A wi...

Re: Softube / NI bundle sale up to 75% off

You are quite correct about time and patience - the Modular is deep, maybe as deep as something like Max or Massive or Reaktor, just different deep. But you can get some great sounds out of the included modules, and they are conventional building blocks. The reverb - it's nice, and if it were one of...

Re: Softube / NI bundle sale up to 75% off

well craptastic! Sorry for the harsh language! Yes Guy, I grow more and more enamored with Softube Modular every time I sit down and play with it. It is huge, it is deep, and it sounds lovely (well, it can sound lovely - I have also managed to make it sound awful, but I am learning!) Even the basic ...

Re: Soniccouture / NI sale - 50% off, free extra products and a complete bundle

I too stopped fence-sitting. Nearly the last possible minute, but I purchased Haunted Spaces (and Ghost Planet) and Konkrete. There were a few others that I considered, but I really don't have an immediate need for any of them, and resources are finite. @Brett - I apologize for being a day late, the...

Re: Waves / Abbey Road Chambers

There are not a lot of Waves plugins in my goto list. I love their effects stuff. I am still a sucker for Doppler, Doubler, Enigma, MondoMod, MetaFlanger, and SoundShifter. I also keep C4 and L2 at the top of the list. And I still think their Durrough meters are about the best out there (I used them...

Re: Spitfire Audio releases British Drama Toolkit

Some very nice compositions from both of you. Like everyone else I much prefer the full version of Human Touch. So I find myself back on the fence. A $50 discount is $50 in my pocket, and I am very interested in the approach, but I can't think of a single thing I'd do with it right now. So I will pr...

Re: Spitfire Audio releases British Drama Toolkit

I haven't been this intrigued in a while. The workflow is fascinating. Sadly I do not think my keyboard chops are sufficient to take advantage of this approach. I may still buy it - the sounds are quite good, and definitely different than anything I own. Or they appear to be anyway.

First, thanks for the tip, I did contact them and now I have to choose between two pretty good deals<G>. Oh well! Since you asked... I use many of their sound-design-y libraries, my thoughts below: BOX OF TRICKS - just a ton of really inspiring instruments, I really have no favorites! GEOSONICS - an...

Re: Zynaptic / "Intensity" (detail, clarity, density, loudness)

I am revising my opinion - a little bit anyway. My first attempts to use this were on the 2-mix, and I do not think it is terribly interesting in that application, in spite of the fact that it seems to be geared towards working on a mix. Today I spent some time using it on individual tracks, and I l...

Re: Adagietto Flash Sale - $48 until the 1st of July

my two cents... my string libraries include Adagio, Adagietto, and Agitato from 8Dio, Cinematic Strings and Cinematic Studio Strings, and various strings from Orchestral Essentials and Albion. Adagietto was one of my first purchases. I recall conversing with Troels at the time, and he suggested Adag...

Hey Piet! I'm about as big a Zynaptiq fan boy as they come (and not just for the scotch they share at their trade show booths, although that doesn't hurt!), but I'm really not reaching for my wallet yet - and I might be missing something here. Can you share a little about what convinced you? If coul...
