Re: Do you….(revisiting your work)

It used to be a pretty rare occasion for me, simply due to the fact that I'm constantly writing for one medium or another. Aside from the personal stuff, which I revisit without reservation to polish or even completely change anything from the writing to the production, the professional stuff gets ...

Re: Global Film Decline

Tobias and Guy summed it up well for me too. Marvel and DC superhero films are not something I would ever pay money to watch. Streaming has made it so easy and the quality, as mentioned, is so high now that I find myself invested much more in series (especially of the limited kind) than films. Super ...

Re: AI and it's practical applications for music

Similar situation as Linos for me. Zero use for generative proliferation, but trying to employ it for sifting through huge amounts of texts. I spent much time creating cheatsheets in the past for sample libraries (such as complicated beasts like Sample Modeling Strings) in particular, so that I ...

Re: The Severance theme deconstructed

You are right, perhaps it was a bit insensitive on my part. The sound of the Tonic (major or minor) moving via tritone is so engrained in my brain, from scores and my own attempts at using it, that it has become a highly identifiable sound. It's like the screech of a banshee!

Re: The Severance theme deconstructed

Ah, the Severance theme. Was hooked the first time I heard it. But then again, Shapiro knows his stuff! To your point 1: I don't hear this as terribly dissonant. Surely a function of the pedal tone keeping my ear rooted (ha!) in the tonic. Speaks volumes to the power of this technique for easing the ...

Re: Mac Thunderbolt, shared?

According to this, at least the M4 SoC has individual controllers. Seems like the shared structure was a limitation of the Intel days.

Re: apulSoft / apQualizr 2

That looks like an incredible playground of experimentation, Piet. Larry, another option that I keep meaning to try out when time permits, may be Toneboosters Equalizer Pro . It's equipped with all sorts of useful filters and functions, including dynamics and transient/sustain control among others ...

Re: Performance samples Pacific Woodwinds released

Having heard your mockup work, I would agree with waiting for Vista II. Pacific as your only workhorse (am I breaking the definition of that word?) might be a bit frustrating, beautiful as it is (2 Mic positions can be limiting as well if you don't particularly like the hall). I'm likely to go for ...

Re: Performance samples Pacific Woodwinds released

My experience with Vista is that it has a very strong character that is either right for the part or completely wrong, and not a lot in between. But when it works, it really works and does so with very little effort. Having a wider selection of niche libraries in that vein might not be such a bad ...

Re: Performance samples Pacific Woodwinds released

Yeah, feel similar. Sort of in two minds about this. On one hand, I think Performance Samples is one of the most interesting developers at the moment, and their libraries really stick out in how effortlessly they sound like they're playing actual music. So alive and musical compared to most other ...

Very cool indeed, Georg. I can see the benefits of the dual engine in MYTH over ZYCLØP. What a canvas for experimentation this is, truly seems fun.

Thanks. Indeed, I have the Weiss suite for de-essing and dynamics, among several others. Anyone have experience with ListenHub? Still looking for a good Master Noise suppressor/limiter for Logic.

Re: Black Friday 2024 hot tips

An observation. Fab Filter have their annual 25% off sale, and fair play to them - they seem to be able to charge 4x what competitors do and get away with it. Sonnox are down to over 90% off with some now... how the mighty's prices fall. Anything still absolutely worth having, Guy? I bought their ...

Re: Magic7 by Wave Alchemy - Free

I asked myself that very question. Don't know officially, but the download is <200MB and the AU is around 55MB. Plus, when I change presets, even from completely different categories, it appears to be instantaneous, which I haven't experienced in any IR-based Reverb. So my guess is that it's an ...

Magic7 by Wave Alchemy - Free

In the ever-expanding availability of Bricasti plugins, there is a new and free entry. Haven't downloaded it yet, but I do have the excellent GLOW by the same company. Curious to see how it stacks up to 7th Heaven.

Re: Berlin Studio?

Larry, there's a demo available for 14 days. Should be plenty of time to give it a spin and decide if it's for you. Also, asking this question over at VI-C might yield more opinions. I'm currently testing Ambiente by SWAM Instruments. First time I loaded it, I wasn't at all enamored with the sound ...

Re: Berlin Studio?

I think it's very good. If you like the sound of Teldex, it is very good. I find the layout and use logical and easy. Placing totally dry sources in it is rather trivial and gives a great starting point. Massaging the mic positions to get the exact blend you want is a great bonus, so the concept in ...

Re: New macs

I like having 1TB as a system size. 500GB was a tough, time-consuming balancing act at times, as per Geoff. 1TB is the sweet spot for me. Enough space to not worry about juggling, yet small enough that I have to keep a clean house, which in turn means a smoothly running machine. My next Mac will be ...

Somewhat tempted. Though I'd also like to know what's happening with the next iteration of the Mac Studio. Looking good across the line though, especially the upgraded RAM minimum on some, as well as pricing on the Mini in particular By the way, with the Pro CPU version you can get 64Gb of RAM on ...

Thanks for the write-up, Piet! Didn't know the first two, glad to find out, as I'm working on a 70s track that could benefit from Echomixer's treatment. Re: Softube / Layers

Aha. That is a shame. While I'm happy to hear you've had success with VEPro + SPATRev, I don't own the former, having resisted the temptation of overcomplicating the setup. I might be wrong, of course, but I do like being able to just load up one program/app and getting to it without necessarily ...
