Re: Native Instruments / Evolution - Fables
This discount is now half price for Lores owners, so I rashly got it. Of course it's wonderful. Lighter tonally than Lores, but not uniformly so - there's still plenty of oddness. The range is staggering and for £45 it's just ridiculous (even though I'll ultimately get it again in a future Komplete)...

Re: Black Friday / Christmas / etc tips
NI's sale has some pretty good upgrade and bundle deals. I have K14 Collector's Edition including the sublime Lores, and they have an upgrade price to Fables for £45 - you have to click on the price to get the extra half price upgrade deal.

Two brand new libraries added - Women Of The North choral library and Iceland. Women of the North is the female companion to the older Men Of The North, an Icelandic choir. It seems pretty good, the lower register Mmmms in particular are very nice. The legato largely plays well, there's a few bumps ...

Re: VPS Avenger 2
I think I might wait till I hear some more , or newer, sound collections that indicate its new features are worth the €80,- upgrade price. I guess eventually I will do it, but for now I am still happy with the current tools, and the new few sound sets that require version 2 didn't yet convince me. ...

Tutti Free is, well, free from Sonokinetic - Aleatoric orchestral phrases and hits. This is part of their 12 Days of Christmas thing - I don't know if it's just free for a short time or forever.

Re: Black Friday tips
Since I have next to zero experience with most of the machines here but like to use some for commercial work: Is there any kind of tutorial or comparison of the different characters, use cases and such where you can get a quick overview? I made a quick walk through but it would be helpful to get so...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
Hi @Guy Rowland, Hmmm... So, Are you liking the EW HOOPUS Strings Sordino (fake emulation), more than the VSL Synchron Duality Strings (real) Sordino Library ? I find that a bit hard to believe, but curious to read a bit more about how you are comparing these two libraries. Thanks. I certainly like...

Re: Incirios announcement - a new sampler and audio engine
during expressively shaped sustains, it often sounds like two instruments instead of just one. The old x-fading problem, in other words. Alas I heard it loud and clear too. It's a lovely arrangement of a gorgeous piece though Linos. And the strings, whatever they are, really shine - I'd have them a...

Had 20 minutes to try out Silk Vocal. Honestly... kids these days. It's now so easy to make something sound good, they don't know they're born etc. This is another machine-learning tweakathon. In practice it's a bit like soothe, only you have three controls - low, mid, high, and it's clearly designe...

If anyone still doesn't have it, HOOPUS is now $299 with Forbidden Planet thrown in.
I honestly think HOOPUS might be the best complete Symphonic orchestral package out there.

Is it me or were BF sales unspectacular this year? Not just you. For the most part it was deals we'd seen before. UAD was a crazy exception, and OT's Berlin series and u-he's stuff had slightly steeper reductions. I was really hoping for a discount on the Ryzen 9 7900 but alas. So far my roll call ...

Re: Toontrack Kicks and Snares EZX
An enthusiastic thumbs up here. Those extra 4 kick and snare faders are great for dialling in just what you need. There's a huge variety in there as you'd hope, my personal fave is the popcorn snare. The basic kit is a good solid one, and there's a few hi hat choices (though I think they're all twea...

Well don't be fooled - of course this can do all the EDMs, but this is also a highly capable sound design synth. The new spectral synthesis gets some very interesting tones, similar but different to granular and less over-familar to my ears. There's a lot of good raw material in the factory library ...

Re: Incirios announcement - a new sampler and audio engine
Maybe it’s because I was trained classically to write for real players but it just wouldn’t occur to me to ever play a solo woodwind sampled instrument polyphonically expecting it to be the real performance. Not classically trained here, but quite agree. It never works, especially on woodwinds for ...

Re: Incirios announcement - a new sampler and audio engine
The monophonic stuff does sound good. Playing the sustains polyphonically sounds like an organ, but to be fair it always does with woodwinds. Actually at 5.30ish the Oboe transitions sound horrible - the monophonic legato still sounds good though. What's the deal with this as an engine for 3rd party...

It's out, but quelle surprise, servers are down. Price for new users seems to be £133 with a Black Friday discount. Upgrades are circa £73 with the discount I think, but until their servers are back up I can't be sure. While we wait, here's a nice no-nonsense 8 minute overview of some of the new fea...
