Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
Interesting, thanks. It does seem to have a bit of a LASS thing going on then... Yes, they might be similar in the handling. Soundwise they are quite different. Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings are on the wet side. I haven't made myself familiar enough with the mix options. I'll have to see whether a...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
Yes, it's mainly the lower half of the range. Below 70 or so. Only briefly venturing into higher cc ranges for the tutti crescendo in the second half of the piece. And when a section should cut through. That little call and answer between the celli and first violins in the second half is with both s...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
It's too soon to say much. I need to properly adjust all the parameters to suit my workflow first. When working on the mockup I was a bit let down at the beginning, as I didn't like how everything sounded. After putting in some time and cleaning up the midi data etc. I now start to really like it. D...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
For the VERY reasonable price, I'm VERY curious what user demos sound like. I owe myself a treat this year, and I can't think of anything stupider than buying ANOTHER string library. If anyone goes for this, please post something. Working on a mockup right now. I'm fighting a few quirks, and I need...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
Apparently a problem with the Vimeo conversion that they are trying to fix, and not a voluntary decision. Should be uploaded in stereo soon. In the demos, I am hearing mixed things (sorry for the pun...). The overall sound is a bit brighter than I'd like. Not so bright as some other libraries though...

Re: Incoming / ISW Tokyo Scoring Strings
Impressive. A library with a clear concept that seems to have been produced with the necessary passion and care. It looks like a strong contender if you need a dry studio strings sound. Not a sound I need currently. But it is very well made. I like it better than the Synchron Elite or VSL Dimension ...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
Guy, I could swear...hmm. I think it's in the fine print somewhere, or I misread, or it was specific to that sale (but I doubt that.) Yes, there was that option. If you owned one part of the Hollywood Orchestra you could upgrade to the full HOOPUS at the upgrade price of 295$. Worked for me. I don'...

Re: Incoming / major True Strike and Symphobia updates
I'm also curious where this was recorded and if it's a stage or a concert hall. True Strike was recorded in a concert hall, as are most (all?) libraries by Project Sam. From their 'About us' page: "they set out to record their own, focusing on three main things: 1. an ambient, multi-mic setup ...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
Can't say much about the strings from this demo. But I do agree with Piet that the mix is bright in an unpleasant, tiring way.

Miroire - Period instruments and voices by Orchestral Tools

Re: SoundTheory / Gullfoss Master
When I tried the demo I found it quite good too. I didn't buy it because, to my ears, the 'pre-programmed mixing engineer' has a sonic taste that does not quite align with my own. See, Gullfoss has (or at least: had when I tried it) quite a strong tendency towards a bright mix. Very bright. Too brig...

Re: This weekend only: the Weiss MM-1 for half the price
I did. Well, second last, technically. I had a brickwall limiter as the very last plugin, but that didn't do anything. So the MM1 was the last active plugin in the chain.

Re: This weekend only: the Weiss MM-1 for half the price
It's a good one, I concur. I used it heavily in the mastering of my upcoming album of tv music. It's easy to use and sounds good most of the time. The styles are great and aptly named. They do what it says on the tin. For more control the DS1-MK3 should be your choice, though it's also vastly more e...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
This sounds really good to me. It's transparent without sounding harsh. Classic. I don't hear it as reverb-y, just as having a nice bit of natural ambience. Also the distance sounds right to me. It's not a closer recording studio sound, but a concert hall sound when you are not sitting in the front ...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings (with A/B divisi)
The library is with NI already for encoding, so it should not be too long now. Also, Sonokinetic seem to have learned from the delays. At least they didn't say anything about when it is going to be released this time, only that it needs some more time.

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
Maybe it's just me, but to my ears this demo sounds rather weak. The mix sounds thin and too bright for my taste, and there is an artificialty about the separation of the sections. And that's just the mix. In the mockup, I don't like the phrasing. There are little swells and accents in places that d...

Re: Sonokinetic Orchestral Strings - divisi strings to be released in April
Apart from a delay of the release there is one bit of additional information that has been posted on Vi-C. The section sizes are 14-12-10-8-6. Each section is divided in two groups. The full section you get by combining the two groups, which can be done in the instrument using auto divisi. Individua...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
Matthias I do share your sentiment. Most people seem to like the sound of these strings a lot. I am definitely not one of them. VSL focuses on a clean and transparent signal chain if I am not mistaken. That should be something that aligns well with my preference for a classical concert hall aestheti...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
That's not good news. I have no experience with the Woodwinds Ensembles. In the work I do I can't for my life figure out what I would need woodwinds a3 for. My hope is based entirely on the sound of the strings in their phrase-based libraries. If your experience with the Woodwinds Ensemble has been ...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
It's odd, but I am not interested in this library at all. I used to investigate each and every chamber strings library I could find. Now, after listening to the demos, I am certain that this library is not for me. I know now that I am looking for a classical concert hall sound, and Elite Strings def...

Re: VSL Synchron Elite Strings (Chamber Ensemble)
It's been released, and it seems nice enough. Another very solid product from VSL. Good selection of articulations, quality recordings, it runs in the ultra-flexible and stable Synchron Player. Yet the sound in these demos leaves me quite cold. I couldn say there is anything obviously wrong with it....
