Re: Orchestral Tools Phoenix Chinese Orchestra
In the case of Strezov Sampling, I probably should have realized that they couldn't have brought their product to the marketplace as early as they did had they recorded it after China got Covid-19 under control. As to why Orchestral Tools chose to make this product, it's possible my speculation hol...

Re: Spitfire Audio 'Symphonic Motions' Library Released
Sounds useful for many situations. I have mixed feelings about them leaving the violas out and the mixed sections approach. It would have been nice to have each section separated. That would have made it even more attractive to me personally.

Re: LiquidSonics Cinematic Rooms
I got the standard and it’s great. Some of the pro features are nice but in reality, while making music and countless other decisions, just the access to a very high quality reverb with a few essential settings is good for me. Now, for something like SPAT I would want full controls. But for this, I ...

Re: Celemony Melodyne 5
I have never had any use for tuning software because I don't have to deal with all that with samples and when recording, it is done by engineers or other specialists. I don't usually work with vocals as well. Because India has a massive Bollywood song industry, there are now specialists who do just ...

Re: LiquidSonics Cinematic Rooms
Tanuj, It does sound good. Which version were you using? Was it a factory preset? Thanks . Hey Jack, For the piano, I am using the default patch as you load the plugin - I think, it's The Amethyst Hall and for strings, I used the Bowed Hall. I did not touch a thing on those presets. I am using the ...

Re: Liquid Sonics Cinematic Rooms
Yet another reverb or is it? I downloaded the demo and did some quick tests and I have to say that it sounds wonderful! Sounds like a modern reverb with a great sound. I tried to compare it to Seventh Heaven and the only thing I can say for now is that it 'feels', a bit more 3-D, for lack of better ...

Cinematic rooms.JPG Simply Powerful Reverb LiquidSonics has established an enviable reputation for making some of the best sounding reproductions of classic stereo hardware reverbs. But when we were challenged by industry-leading composers, mixers and post-production engineers to create something s...

Re: Using filters for timbral inflections-Tanujs Krypton walkthrough
Ok, thanks! I thought the timbral responses might have some quality the usual tools can’t achieve. But now that I think about it more, it doesn’t even make sense, as an IR cannot “react” to different dynamics. It must be a fixed change of the sound, because it is only one sample. That makes it rath...

Re: Using filters for timbral inflections-Tanujs Krypton walkthrough
FriFlo, I think you can certainly do without the TILT filter IR's. I am not sure either why they are different. I bought it a decade ago from VSL and perhaps, I use them because I have it. I remember reading up on it back then but I can't really remember anything in detail. There are many ways to re...

Re: Using filters for timbral inflections-Tanujs Krypton walkthrough
Also, something to keep in mind. I was trying to mimic the original recording. There are perfectly other legitimate ways to do a performance of the same music, which will sound very different. This is the same thing I did for the Hook Banquet sequence. I was trying to get close to the original recor...

Re: Using filters for timbral inflections-Tanujs Krypton walkthrough
Ahh. So another answer comes for me with this also. I was trying to define how you could get such a rich (Berlin Type) orchestral trombone sound from the S.M. Tbns and Tuba. I've had them since they 1st came out but have never used them. To me they always sounded like a junior high school kid's 1st...

Re: Using filters for timbral inflections-Tanujs Krypton walkthrough
Hi GC, thanks for watching the video. I am not sure exactly what you mean but I did automate the channel EQ's in a few tracks as well as some automation on master EQ for different reasons. One is to tuck in some unwanted frequencies in specific spots and second is to emulate timbral shifts with volu...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra
Hmmm... I rather like both of Tanuj's demos. Well crafted and lively. Perhaps a tad much ambience for me, but that is maybe what he likes to hear. You can't fault a person for what he wishes to envision. . Thanks Jack! In fact you may be right about the reverb. I am currently working off headphones...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra
Jay, whole heartedly agree on all counts. Live musicians are something else and nothing comes close. I can understand you not wanting to spend your days programming long hours! I wish I could only work with live orchestras. Unfortunately, that is not always possible. Having said that, if one had to ...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra
Man I had the opposite experience. I had The Trumpet, Trombone, and French Horn and I hated working with them and sold them. I also hated using a breath controller. Jay, I would agree that they don't work out of the box and because they have no performance built in, you have to work in a different ...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra
I am investing more time on samplemodeling these days and loving performance samples. I am nearly done with old school sample libraries that pride on sound and cannot even be used to stitch a decent connected musical phrase. Many of these concepts, I find obsolete now. There are things I can do with...

Re: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra
Thanks a lot Piet. You strongly confirm my conclusion that the in terms of the raw recordings, Spitfire BBC SO samples sound superior to VSL SE. The question that remains is there enough content (looking at you, dynamic layers...), and has the quality control been thorough enough to make it suitabl...

Re: JXL Brass - Orchestral Tools
I don’t understand what of my writing is elitist or disingenuous. If anything, I think it is disingenuous to create a climate where it is not possible anymore to say what you think is good and what is not. In the case of music, that is related to a composer who is at the same time a person, which i...

Instead of lots of articulations, they focused on huge dynamic r...

Thanks Guy, XO drums does look very nice and sounds great too!
But, for some reason I think I might go with Giest 2 from Fxpansion. Looks like a great choice over all. I have Battery 4 but need something a bit different for creating grooves.
One of these days, I want to get superior drummer 3 too!
