Re: Pro Tools reconfigures pricing

Daryl - why specifically are you wedded to PT? Because pretty much every professional studio in the world uses it. But how does that affect your work? It makes sense if you are prepping sessions on PT and doing a final mix elsewhere, but not if its just for the record session. As you know of course...

Re: Pro Tools reconfigures pricing

It's certainly a PTA, but as we always record into PT, there is no other option but to swallow the bile, and pay for the subscription.

The mention of a new clef might upset some.
Luckily it's not a real Clef. Just a fairly blunt instrument for helping with working out the best ranges of instruments. Nothing to be frightened of...!

Wow, that's a huge price drop. Even with no new features, it makes getting another licence way cheaper if I wait.

Re: Composer's Assistant vacancy

Oh no, I am tied doing my composition M.A. at Bristol until June. I might actually apply regardless and see what happens. Thanks for this Daryl. You should always apply, but also be honest about your current commitments. No reputable employer is going to write you off for that, and you n...

It would mean that instrument like Disklavier don't have to use that terrible (but brilliant) workaround and would mean that editing could be done in a sequencer, at high resolution. I'm in favour...!

Re: FLUX:: / SPAT Revolution (released)

The band is, at its most basic:

Keys 1/MD
Electric Bass/Upright Bass
Drums
Keys 2 (everything else)

It is designed so that the band can be expanded to 9 players, which slims down the Keys 2 part a little.

Re: FLUX:: / SPAT Revolution (released)

Daryl-my impression is that you do most or all of your recording live. I assume you record in situ-what do you use SPAT for? Usually when doing overdubs at my studio. However, at the moment we have a musical to prepare the programming for the keyboard parts, and that requires lost of sample program...

Re: FLUX:: / SPAT Revolution (released)

Will be very curious to see how you get along with it Daryl. My tendency right now is to not upgrade. I was originally thinking of just getting another SPAT3 licence, but once I found that there were two licences per Revolution, it didn't make sense. The other thing I'm, hoping is that I can use th...

Re: FLUX:: / SPAT Revolution (released)

I am just worried, they will discontinue support for SPAT V3. And that’s not good news for existing users. It depends on what you mean by "support". The last ever update was released earlier this year, so it is what it is. I've just bought Revolution, so once we really get into the nitty ...

Re: Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass

So how do you view this offering Daryl, at least on paper? It doesn't look like Just Another Brass Library to me, and Audiobro do have a good reputation for detailed work. For me the thing that really doesn't work in other libraries, is solo instrument crossfading between dynamic layers. I've never...

Re: Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass

It must be tough to release orchestral libraries today because so much is already out there and by now most people have at least a couple of options. And so it puts more pressure on developers to offer something that is fresh and can motivate the buyer. You'd think so, but from what I can see there...

Re: Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass

Personally I think they should keep the price in the 3 digits range (so 999$ at most). I'm not sure you can still sell libraries for 1000-2000$ in todays day and age. Certainly if it is just more of the same, and not appreciably better, there will be a price limit. However, my main gripe with many ...

Re: Audiobro Modern Scoring Brass

DON'T RECORD ENSEMBLE LIBRARIES BY LAYERING UP INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS. It never sounds right, and will likely bankrupt you in the process. Guy, I think the big caveat is that Strings, as in section strings, are not solo instruments, whereas Brass and Woodwinds are. One of the important thing about stri...
