Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra Strings
I just don’t envision getting hired for a project for which I would need it, especially considering I have several of Tari’s wonderful libraries that sadly I have little occasion to use,

Re: Rhodes release a V8 sample based plugin
I played it yesterday and compared it to both Acousticsamples V-Tines and NeoSoul Keys 2.
I just don’t hear it as sounding any more like the Rhodes I played 5-6 nights a week for years than either of those. If I didn’t have them maybe I would consider buying this one .

Re: Spitfire / Autograph Grand (free LABS library)
I have several LABS, I rarely, if ever, use them. This piano holds no appeal for me and Piet is right, the concept is nuts. I thought the original Felt Piano was very useful and have used it a lot. However, I agree-what a weird programming choice on Autograph. I like Sonuscore’s LoKi felt piano.

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
Bite the bullet and rebuild the template. I have become incredibly quick at doing so with articulation sets in Logic Pro to connect to VE Pro. I a, such a geek I actually enjoy it. And you can buy the Cubase articulation sets from Art Conductor. Have you got the VST3 version of Opus working reliabl...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
I had to face it eventually - adding the new Opus instruments into the Cubase / VE Pro template. What could possibly go wrong? First test - save a Play multi, then see if it opens in Opus. It does! All routing intact - the only minor issue is it makes no sound any more. Midi lights up, but no audio...

Re: Rhodes release a V8 sample based plugin
I just played the trial version for quite a while. Back in the '70's era I owned a silver top suitcase that I played 5-6 nights a week and have played a lot of different Rhodes. This one is quite nice but not significantly better than Acousticsamples V-Tines or NeoSoul Keys, so at that price point I...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings
Thanks Jay! Pacific Strings have a vintage sound quality. The noise adds to it, and the somewhat claustrophobic narrowness. 'Sticky' is a good word to describe it, fully agree with Piet here. It's definitely not an all-purpose strings library, but one for a very specific sound. The exaggerated tran...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings
If anybody is interested in a comparison with Cinematic Studio Strings, I made a mockup of the John Dunbar theme with them a few years ago: https://youtu.be/vfLg8BafXjI?t=68 This is lovely, really nice. I definitely prefer this to Leo’s and he is very skilled at using samples, so it is the inherent...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings
This just sounds like neither fish nor fowl to me, certainly not bad, but nothing I need. For my pop stuff, Strezov’s Afflatus Chapter 1 Scene d’Amour strings con sordinos just have that Grusinesque sound I want (thanks Craig Sharmat aka Scoredog). If I want lush, it’s Hollywood Strings all the way....

Re: Embertone / Honky Tonk Harmonica (Whiskey Series)
I bought it without listening to demos. You are my new boyhood hero Larry! Ha! Well Bill, thrifty soul though I am, I have spent too long trying to torture the CH Harmonica into a blues bag, so for that price I’ll give it a shot. Same here. The CH is a great choice for Stevie Wonder/Toots Thielman,...

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
I would call your attention to the three settings: standard, epic, and soft. They do sound quite different and of course being able to make your own mic mixes is a bug help.

Re: EastWest / Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition
Just a heads up that the Opus edition is $299 in the 2022 Cyber Monday sale, and it's a $199 update for anyone with a qualifying product (I have two, the original HO Gold brass and strings) I won't be installing the library til later this week when I have a) the 4TB new NVMe drive and b) time. But ...

Re: Cherry Audio / GX-80
What stops the GX-80 from becoming another favourite, for me, has got nothing to do with Cherry Audio — they've done a superb job — but everything with the awkwardness of the original instruments. I mean, there's no getting away from the fact that a CS-80 is not a very intuitive or fun synth to pro...

Arno responded: “ Hi Jay, They work the same way (with low velocity or with a CC if you set it this way in the preferences), but it’s not the same effect. On a trumpet, there is some sort of bend between notes when you do a slow note change. On a saxophone it’s different, there is a slight 1/4 tone ...

(And I seem to recall hearing a glide in one of the official demos.)
Maybe I'll ask AcousticSamples.

Re: Acousticsamples V-Horns saxes spotted
That’s the thing, Rob, there’s so many easy ways to adjust the sound. Play around with the different mics as well. yep... my impression is (trying for a classical orchestral tone) that if I'm using an IR based reverb it's better to just go with the MIC1-close mics exclusively, no virtual mics... th...
