VSL have announced VE Pro 7 as a pre-order, which comes bundled with Epic Orchestra 2.0 including versions of their Synchron and Syncrhonized series. There's not many details yet on VE Pro 7, nor when it is release, but there is a lot of info on the Epic Orchestra part of it.
One important change - VE Pro until now has come bundled with 3 licenses. VE Pro 7 only comes with one, but the upgrade price has been reduced accordingly to 75 euros as an intro offer. Extra licenses are 45 euros each, but do not come bundled with Epic Orchestra 2.0 - this can be bought separately for 105 euros if people need a 2nd license for that.
FWIW - from a quick listen to Guy Bacos' demos (Guy is incredibly talented), I'm not too sure if the new Epic Orchestra is worth installing, even if it is 73gb huge. I'm none too thrilled about having the Bastardized versions of what I have either - that Cornet is still terrific just as it was. Am I being too harsh?
I am, however, VERY interested to hear what VE Pro 7 has in store.
Interesting. So, I am guessing you need one license per computer? So I would just need the one, but if I decide to add a MacMini to my system, that would need it's own license, yes? You need to have VEP on both machines?
From their FAQ, they say you only need a license on each machine that the server itself is on, you don’t need it for the DAW plugin. So if I understood that correctly, if your server and all samples are on the slave only, you just need one license.
Geez, I dunno. I only did a quick listen, but a smattering of their Synchron stuff, the Vienna Suite effects, and an update for 145 Euros-seems sort of awesome to me even if there are only a few sounds worth having.
Yes no word on AU3, which they have said they were working on... hopefully it will come out in the details because the last thing I need is more orchestra samples right now.
Bought. Even though I don't like the synchronized samples much, and the Synchron Player workflow using several keyswitches for single articulation doesn't suit me. But the samples from the Synchron Percussion and Synchron Strings Fx could be nice to have. Improvements to the Vienna Ensemble software are welcome as well. Even if that does not seem to be the priority of this upgrade given the complete lack of info.

I don´t remember how it was from 5 to 6 but having a master and two slaves, I have to pay 165 euros to upgrade?
Yes, that was already my thinking. I am not sure, but I don’t think the last upgrade was as expensive as this one is, if you wanna keep your licenses. I am not thrilled about that announcement so far, to say the least. They could be winning me back with some truely remarkable features! But if this is just a way of saying “we now need some cash from you, if you wanna keep using VEpro without potential problems with OS upgrades in the future”, I am seriously considering hardware for audio and midi over lan for the future ... Frankly, the way VSL has developed over the last years I am afraid it is the latter. Let’s see what they are offering.
I'm just curious - how many people actually have the server running on 3 computers? The 165 euro figure is only relevant if that is genuinely the case for you. Even if you have 2 slaves running servers and a 3rd computer running the DAW itself but streaming no samples, you'd only need 2 liceneses.
As I wrote elsewhere, for me the make or break for VE Pro 7 will be in the areas of automation and disabling tracks. That automation window is currently the stuff of nightmares, no shortcuts to adding every single source on every single midi channel to the appropriate instrument via a blizzard of hierachical menus. It should be relatively trivial to create the first one, then press a "copy and increment midi channel" button 15 times. And / or add an ALL button for the midi channels. Then there should be a way of applying the rules to entire instances. Finally, what I've been bleating on about for years - wake on midi. Load a disabled template, and just play - each time VE Pro detects a midi note on any given channel, it enables that instrument. All these would more than justify the price of admission imo. Oh, and pleaaaase fix the full scale deflection howl round bug on enabling multi-out instruments - turns out their fix hasn't actually fixed it.
Of course other efficiency gains would be welcome, but I find it hard to believe that there's much left to be had, VEP 6 is so darned good as it is.
Question for Synchron series owner - does the Synchron player supersede VI-Pro 2, or run alongside it? General comments on the player?
I just got. the Epic Orchestra 2 and it sounds pretty good, although I am no fan of pre-mixed tandems like the "Woodwinds." I compose for clarinet, flute, oboe, etc. not "woodwinds."
Charlie Clouser: " I have no interest in, and no need to create, "realistic orchestral mockups". That way lies madness."
Information finally up on VE Pro 7. Some really nice looking new features, though still missing Wake On Midi it seems. Nevertheless, there's easily enough here for me to upgrade.
Yes, it doesn't look to bad! The plugins are from Vienna Suite, so, it is one more slight disappointment that me owning the suite again isn't considered for the upgrade, but there are also other things they worked on. The big question will be, does it run well and will it fix my crashes in Cubase when it tries to automatically connect. I currently have to manually connect one slave, otherwise I get crashes and support couldn't help me with that. Maybe I have enough time left to try the beta, once all current projects are finished. :-)
I like the look of the side-tabs, will be really easy my everything in one hit together with the midi activity indicators. CPU usage could be invaluable too for diagnostics. The disable folder and instances will get a ton of use I'm sure, though I'm now all-in with the single channel version. Hoping they've made the single instrument remote control easier to use.
