Yes, probably. I edited my post.doctoremmet wrote: ↑May 07, 2022 3:08 am And absolutely no mention of any subscription service. Maybe you were thinking of Cinesamples / Musio?

Looks like "everything will change" meant "a visual refresh of the website". I got an email telling me to activate my account in their new store. Ok.

I hate that my brain mixed up sales and I bought something not at the lowest price e v a r, but hopefully I'll get some good use out of it. Ugh.

Also, a new entry in their Studio Series solo strings range has just been teased. Sounds rather nice I think. But it is not a popular opinion on these boards to actually like an 8Dio library it appears hehe.
At least this indicates 8Dio as a brand is still a thing and they most certainly do not seem to be leaving Kontakt behind any time soon.

I does sound very promising to me, doctor! Sounds very smooth, and the modwheel seems to work without phasing, doubling or jumping from one tone to another.doctoremmet wrote: ↑May 11, 2022 5:09 am Also, a new entry in their Studio Series solo strings range has just been teased. I think almost all the cynicism you see here is bitter experience of products that haven't lived up to the hype. As already mentioned their QC is atrocious and surely the worst of all the main developers. But there's always hope - especially with a new beginning - so I'm looking forward to hearing the real world reports of this one.

Hey Guy. Can’t say I agree with you regarding the complete and utter atrocity haha. But then again, you are a pro and I am a mere 8Dio fanboy with a hobby - so no offense at all. You’ll have my undying love and respect just for your Symphobia videos alone, Sir!
That said, like you I hope my (admittedly bad and hobbyist) ears aren’t deceiving me, because I think I am hearing a pretty playable and nimble, good sounding legato in there. Then again, we’re watching Troels who is as gifted a musician as you are. Also, there’s way too much reverb for my taste.
We’ll have to wait and see!
I also just read this page on their new website:

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
The improvisation sounds great to me too - it's just that in the past the hands-on experience has often been different. I think they have been getting better of late though. (Troels is a waaay better player than me, I'd just like to say - I am genuinely rubbish).doctoremmet wrote: ↑May 11, 2022 9:36 amThat said, like you I hope my (admittedly bad and hobbyist) ears aren’t deceiving me, because I think I am hearing a pretty playable and nimble, good sounding legato in there. Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
Let me be the sucker to find out and suffer the inevitable pain of finding out I do not even have 1% of Troels’ talent, on behalf of all of us.
I kind of excel in spending a lot of money over at 8Dio and then actually liking the instruments - only to never make much music with them because I’m too busy the new new thing. Which may in turn explain why I still like them?
Since these Deep Quintet Strings are apparently released this month, and chances are Jasper Blunk does not release Pacific Strings, I may actually have a budgetary loophole to help me finance it. If only I hadn’t listened to Rob’s demo tracks with Synth V Solaria… that’s the only risk that could materialize, resulting in me NOT being able to get these solo strings ;-)
Anyway, TL;DR… I’ll report back

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
Solaria is awesome, just sayin. I haven’t had time to master Synthesizer V, but besides Rob’s excellent track there are a lot more in the VI-C thread.

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
Yes, thanks Lawrence. I’ve read the entire VI-C thread and am inclined to jump for it.
On the 8Dio Deep Quintet Strings. Apparently there are three patches: 2 vln, 1 vla, 2 celli. That is if I am parsing this YT comment correctly:

Liberis is $50 for 24hrs - https://8dio.com/products/liberis-epic-childrens-choir
I’m as sceptical about 8dio as the next person - more so probably, but this is a genuinely good deal.

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
There's a whole lot of backstory you might not be aware of. These aren't my stories to share (so kindly don't share this post or quote me), but talk to enough developers and you'll run into a few (all of whom you would recognize) with stories of bad interactions with Troels, Tawnia, or their lawyer.doctoremmet wrote: ↑Sep 23, 2022 3:29 am Ah, thanks for updating us on whoever’s being canceled next. Gotcha. And every once in a while people in the know will signal their disapproval on public boards so dumb hobbyists like myself are discouraged? Is that the point of the signalling?

Haha I now get why my 8Dio fanboy posts are usually not met with approval. Anyway. I’m a mere customer. I reckon every company has some prick working in some position anyway, so if that should stop from me buying their products I guess I can’t buy anything anymore. But go ahead and proceed

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
I'm not a mod here, but IMO it's best to simply talk about the products themselves. You may love or hate 8dio for very good personal reasons, but there isn't anywhere that constructive that it can go here. This post is in the Front Page section, viewable to anyone, so there are clear limits as to what can be said (unless it's part of the public record).
I'd echo much of Linos' post. 8dio has terrible QC and a lot of really bad products that even at 90% off are a waste of money. Liberis was definitely one of their better ones, which is why I pointed it out and why this thread can be useful.

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
I agree Guy, at least about the sticking to discussing actual instruments and skipping the innuendo. Wholeheartedly. Apologies for getting triggered by them, I should know better.
I do think 90% is a gross overexaggeration though, but I’ll refrain from any further discussions on the topic ;-)

Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
I've bought some at 90% off that were literally a waste of my money. If a product is just plain bad, even $1 is a waste of money.
Important point - in context, wasting money is much more likely if you already have something that's better. If you already have a good string library and see another at 90% off that you take a punt on - hey, it's 90% off - it is a waste of money if you never then use it because it is so bad. However, you might find a use for even a bad strings library if it's the only thing you've got.
In other words - context is all and YMMV.
Re: The 8dio flash sale thread
I think most will agree that the team at 8Dio is interesting. Some may use different words?
Some people love their libraries, some don't but still use them, and some delete them and take the loss. I suspect the same can be said about almost every sample library developer.
There is also no doubt that Colin and Troels can get the best from their libraries when doing demos. And they are no hacks at epic statements either. Neither of which will impact whether or not a library works for you.
I wish they had a refund policy, but they don't. I've got quite a few of their libraries (too many), and there remain some stand-outs, including all of their little percussion libraries, many of which go back to Tonehammer. I also like the winds, and a couple of the strings libraries. Their intimate strings, brass, and winds libraries are also pretty darned good.
My experience only, YMMV, but I would not stop purchasing from any developer based solely on their personality. That said, I would also never fault someone else from doing so. And in all candor, I do find myself passing on their new releases because I know they will be sharply discounted in the future. In that way I think they cut their own throats, and hope it does not affect other developers badly.
