Saturn 2 - More than saturation

Post by Thomas Mavian »

I've been a user of Saturn since like forever. I like it and use it a lot but never really checked it out thoroughly. My uses have been restricted to "let's saturate this band" type of effect. So I decided to look into it a bit more. If you haven't either then here are some videos to check for a better overview of what it can do.

First, Dan Worralls brilliant introduction, a must-see:

Another recent one from Dan regarding transient designers(?!?). This one made me create out a 2-band "multi-sustain-saturator", all inside Saturn 2:

This one is quite special, using Saturn 2 as a "doubler" type of effect with quite good results I must say:

If you have found other uses for Saturn please add them below.

MD3Sign has a preset pack for Saturn 2 that contains 111 presets for mixing and mastering. I have no idea if this pack contains anything worth purchasing and the text on the product page is so over the top — “We successfully delivered something that world never experienced before.” — that it dissuades rather than stimulates me to even consider buying this, but there just might be something there, who knows. It’s $34.99 and a first purchase gives you an additional 15% off.

Thanks for sharing the videos. Even though I have seen them before, it’s always nice to recap as you can forget a few nice tricks.

I really like using Saturn for various things. I find that some of its algorithms are a bit too subtle and when pushed, it can become over saturated quickly but with so many additional controls, you can really dial your heart in with the settings.

The transformer module is really nice and often I use it to just tuck in the sound a little.

My favourite is the clean tube for a nice top end. The split band feature is fabulous and the plugin is definitely very high quality. Some of the guitar presets are great starting points too.

However, once you dive into the LFO and modulation parameters, a whole new world opens up for really creative effects.

A great plugin!

Yes, the text doesn't say much does it? I'm always a bit wary of preset packs in general, and especially if it is for an EQ 😀

The price is too high for me to buy on chance. Good find though Piet!
