Laney Ironheart in digital form

Post by Thomas Mavian »

This is for all you "metalheads" or Black Sabbath wannabies :)

Right now Aurora DSP has a discount on the IRONHEART plugin: Aurora DSP Laney Ironheart

I bought it as soon as it came out since I'm a real wannabee. I also have the Laney IRT Studio all-tube amplifier (with a Two Notes Torpedo CAB+) and the joy of having the ability to either re-amp analog or digital or record both at the same time is so nice.

I record guitar -> splitter -> pedal board -> IRT Studio -> Torpedo CAB+ -> DAW. The split signal also goes to a DI track where I insert the Ironheart Plugin so I get instant stereo-double-tracked guitars. Doing two takes on each part of a song and switching one of the recordings works real great.

And yes, I can get them to sound really, really close!

The clean channel is also really good but it's not what you get this plugin for :)

Hi Thomas-just how good are the clean or semi clean tones in your opinion? Right now my go to is Guitar Rig 5 which can get really (too) fizzy for distorted tones but you can dial in decent semi-clean tones.

The clean can go from sparkly clean to quite distorted. Depending on your pickups of course. My SG has active pickups so I need to dial down the volume for the real cleans. There is a boost option on every channel which can take you places :)

There are also two modeled pedals, a boost and a distorsion which can give the cleans a real beating. I don't have those pedals on my pedal board but the Tony Iommi "range booster" (which is awesome).

My Strat needs a new playmate. Think I’ll go for it.

I find guitar amp simulators pretty iffy in general. I went for Tonex. Eh. Waves GTR. Eh. There was a Zoom plugin that wasn’t terrible. Amplitube maybe?

That really is the sound I want. A bit on the expensive side, but I’m gonna listen to some demos and give it some thought.

Neural DSP have pretty good sales with some regularity. During the most recent one I picked up a few things at 50% off. That was just weeks ago though so it might be a while until the next sale, but unless you're in a real hurry - don't pay full price, just wait a bit. 🙂

Thanks! I definitely have more time than money, and I hear patience is a virtue..
