Cheap Bargains

Post by Geoff Grace »

Piet’s recent thread about Phil's Cascade having been on sale for $9.99 got me thinking that it might be a good idea to start a “Cheap Bargains” thread in which we post about really low-priced sales that catch our interest.

While the Phil's Cascade sale is over (for now), there are two bargains I’m aware of at the moment that might be of use to people here:

1) SSL's X-ValveComp plug-in is just $9.99 (with the code XVAL9EX9) until August 24.

2) A bundle of all 13 of Pettinhouse’s libraries is selling for $79 (including the new AcousticGuitar 3.0). The sale ends on August 27.

As for the second one, $79 isn’t exactly cheap … unless you consider that it’s for 13 libraries. In that case, I think it belongs in this thread.

In short, this isn’t a normal “someone’s having a sale” thread. If the price is notably lower than a normal sale, and you think it’s a worthwhile product, please let us know here.

Best,

Geoff

The fan base of the Neold plugins is simply too large and also includes a number of people whose opinion I value, to ignore sharing the joyful tiding that Plugin Alliance have a Neold Flash Sale on that has each Neold plugin priced at only $19, and the bundle of all Neold plug-ins for just $69.

Currently 3 euros for the everything bundle .. was supposed to be 24hrs only and started yesterday so might need to be quick! I've not used them myself but have had them recommended to me several times so for that price it's beyond a no-brainer.

I think I did once. Can't remember much of it, I must say. Nothing either memorably bad or good, in other words. Had that snare plugin of theirs installed as well for a while. But it too got removed.

So, these Purafieds are certainly not bad, and for the current price, you might as well take your chances with them, I suppose, but they're also the sort of plugins which are among the first to go, when the day comes when you decide to clean out — or purafy, if you like — your plug-in folder. At least, that's how it was with me.

Looks like this has ended now .. or at least it has a "sold out" label on the website ..

I've just been playing with Panda rooms and think it could be very useful in that UAD Sound City Studios way ...

UAD have done a lot of cheap deals, but this one is perhaps worth a look - choose any 10 from 50 plugins for $99. This is a considerably expanded list from last time they ran it.

Quite a deal indeed, what a difference from the days when a single UAD plugin for $100 was a good deal.

In the days when you were tied to a UAD box in order to use the plugins, I decided to steer toward RME instead, and had my "sweet analog mojo emulator" needs met by Plugin Alliance (Brainworx and Neold, basically). No regrets there. But still plenty of respect for what UAD did to move the needle in terms of DSP.

What beautiful options we have these days!

There’s also another code to be used for a second purchase, LEOVSL50. At least it was working the day before yesterday
Only on VSL site though

Rob,

Is there anything you don’t have from VSL that you’re considering?

Hi Larry, not at the moment… I took the opportunity of this sale to try one of the solo strings, the violin 2 full, so to be able to judge whether to later expand to the full quartet. I thought that having so many microphones would make it easy to get the clean, close tone I need. But no, so far no mixing efforts took me there. I am baffled that an upper tier library as this is supposed to be can’t even produce a good close-up sound, mainly because of the way the instrument has been programmed. The transitions between notes are too loud and have a long release making the violin sound inevitably distant. I don’t think the new incarnation of their solo quartet library is a step up compared to the old one, quite the opposite. So, forgive the rant, I could now only be interested in something from the old era of VSL, where there seemed to be more attention to sampling/programming

We’re looking for the same thing. Disappointing that VSL seems to have taken a step backwards-I thought they’d be the one.
