ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
Ooooh. From the website:
With the launch of the Lineage Series, we began redefining what modern orchestral libraries could be. Our ambition was clear: craft a world-class collection of premium string recordings and redesign the way they respond, so they can truly serve the composer.
For two years, we recorded, refined, and reimagined. Every detail was shaped around a single question: how can a virtual orchestra feel less programmed and more alive? All of it infused with the unmistakable ProjectSAM sound – warm, human, and distinctly European.
Adaptive Phrasing
Lineage Strings elevates orchestral sampling to a new level.
With Smart Lookahead enabled, Adaptive Phrasing becomes your intelligent performance engine: listening to your playing, analyzing musical context, anticipating phrasing, and selecting the most natural articulation for every moment.
Expressive legato, fluid runs, and organic phrasing — all unfolding seamlessly as you play.
Intelligent Arranging
Combined with the powerful Arranger, Lineage Strings delivers a depth of authenticity and musical cohesion previously out of reach – without complex setup, without programming, and without breaking your creative flow.
Full bowing control
Lineage Strings gives you precise control over string bowing. Down and up bows can alternate automatically, be set explicitly, or be overridden on the fly – enabling more natural and expressive phrasing.
Bowing direction resets intelligently when a new phrase is detected, keeping performances fluid and musical.
It says "expected Q2". No details on price yet.

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
Big Project Sam fan here and if it is as good as Lineage Percussion then I’ll probably take a close look at it. With so many string libraries currently available, at first it seems surprising to me that yet another one would soon be on the market. But then again, if developers don’t keep trying to improve upon other releases then in the future they probably won’t be in business for much longer. Looking forward to assessing this new library when it does become available.

I find I use their libraries more than I would have expected. It is the sound. Their ensembles are well thought out, but I always feel like I am missing something without the individual instruments. So yeah, I am really curious about this!!!

Project Sam has a knack for recording in a way that makes the samples sound great. Symphobia is a great example. I also still use True Strike 1 regularly for orchestral percussion. I didn't 'upgrade' to Lineage Percussion, so I don't know the Lineage Line yet. It's an interesting release for sure.

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
Exactly! Not sure if it is the ears, or the space, or maybe even the gear, but the sound is amazing!
I did finally cave and upgrade to Lineage. It is a fantastic library, but it did not EXACTLY replace True Strike, so now I have both hogging disc space

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
Several demos have been posted and it appears release is fairly close. I was quite unmoved by all 3 demos. Performance and (surprisingly for Proj Sam) tone are unflattering imho. I don't hear anything in any of those demos that couldn't have been accomplished more tastefully and realistically many years ago. First impressions are important, so it's perplexing that they lead with these.

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
I was hoping for this to be a smash hit but those demos sound very troubling. Sounds outdated and not very musical in terms of programming for some reason.
The music is nice but the library just does not shine in them. I hope the final library is better!

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
Question is, will anyone feel compelled to take advantage of that? I’ve not yet heard a single moment from this library that has me remotely excited. Every demo and now this latest video screams “MIDI strings.” Extremely surprising from a company with the pedigree of P. Sam.Guy Rowland wrote: Jun 05, 2026 5:54 am Release details are up now on the YouTube link:

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
I'll give a few more thoughts on this library after release.
One thing I can say about this demo is that it is curious to have so many overlapping sections in the different parts, not perhaps the most realistic way to arrange for strings.

Agreed. But even isolating those legato lines…they sound atrocious to me. Certainly not something I’d be willing to pay for in 2026.Guy Rowland wrote: Jun 05, 2026 11:39 am

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
I'm so much more covered for strings than I actually use them! But I've always loved how ProjectSAM instruments sound, so even if I don't plan to grab this one, I'm still listening with interest. Seems beautiful. Between this and Performance Samples Vista strings, there are some pretty significant new offerings in string VI world lately. Giving the biggies like Spitfire, OT, and VSL some healthy competition...

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
there's the rub!
I love the sound of Project Sam libraries. They consistently sound wonderful. Is that because they are recorded in-situ? I surely hope not, because I too would like more control over the instruments. The only other developer that consistently releases great sounding libraries is Orchestral Tools, even if many of them are not really to my taste. Realitone is on that list too, for their recent libraries recorded at Ocean Way, they just sound beautiful.
Nothing against the rest of the developers, or even the rest of Mike's libraries. For the most part they all sound good, which is to say they sound good for the space in which they were recorded - at least that is my assumption. For me, to my ears, Project Sam and Orchestral Tools just have great sounding recordings from which they work.
Still... I am not impressed with the demos for Lineage Strings, and I still have high hopes that it will be an absolute stunner. Just awaiting better demonstrations.
The really strange part - to me - is that in the past Project Sam demos have always been top notch.

The latest Maarten Spruijt demo has been much better received:

Shorts sound fine, but nothing that can’t already be done just as well or better. Longs still sound extremely synthetic to me.Guy Rowland wrote: Jun 13, 2026 8:57 am The latest Maarten Spruijt demo has been much better received:

Re: ProjectSAM Lineage Strings
The shorts convince more, as they have consistently from the first demos. The trills in particular sound crisp and detailed, lacking that usual blurriness that relegates them to an effect in samples, rather than an articulation that can be mixed into passages, though this will become clear in the eventual walkthrough. Perhaps the real revelation will lie in the workflow, because beyond the two bits above, at this juncture I’m also, unfortunately, not hearing a lot that would drive me to change my workflow for this particular ensemble/sound.
