I’m excited to announce my first virtual instrument: AEVAL Felt Piano.

I’m a composer with a passion for programming and recently decided to create a series of VSTs from my personal collection of instruments. As the piano is usually at the center of my compositions, it was only natural to start with it.

I used my Klavins Una Corda piano for this one.

As a composer, I was never happy with most piano VSTs. They always seemed too clean, too perfect (even if they are sampled from an old felted upright piano, there’s usually still something strangely artificial about it), so I tried to create something that comes as close as possible to what makes a (felt) piano sound real to me.

AEVAL Felt Piano has 27 presets that range from a more "pure", "classical" piano sound to very "noisy" felt piano sounds. There are lots of ways to shape the sound and add mechanical and performance noises, such as the fingers hitting the keys, the piano bench creaking, the pianist breathing. If you are into more ambient, experimental and cinematic piano sounds, there are "reverse", "dream" and "bloom" controls.

Its interface is inspired by old fairytale books with the "book cover" presenting four of the most important controls and the preset browser. If you want to control all details, you can "open the book" by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom right corner.
