R.I.P. Tower of Power bassist Rocco Prestia

Post by Lawrence »

A very influential American funk bassist who recorded and performed with seminal horn funk group Tower of Power, Francis Rocco Prestia has passed at the age of 69 after a long series of illnesses. Part of one of the most dynamic rhythm sections ever recorded along with master drummer Dave Garibaldi and amazing organist Chester Thompson, Rocco floated in and out of T.O.P. , most recently parting ways in 2018 due to medical issues. He will be missed.

“Many musicians get paying work based on their ability to create believable orchestral simulations. Whenever musicians get paying work, that’s a Good Thing.”

I saw TOP on their only tour of Australia a few years ago. I have been a fanboy since I was 16 - was very sad at the news.

What is Hip is the height of Prestia's awesomeness.
