Pro Tools 2023.3 Silicon-compatible released

Post by Guy Rowland »

Silicon is now out of beta, and it's in 2023.3. Lots more developers now have AAX silicon compatible plugins too, a full list here - https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/artic ... patibility

Aside from that, here's the new stuff:
New Elastic Audio Time and Pitch Stretching from élastique

(Pro Tools Intro / Artist / Studio / Ultimate™)
Pro Tools 2023.3 offers a new algorithm for Elastic Audio processing, élastique Pro V3 by zplane.development.

Melodyne Keeps Tick Based Audio Analyzed

(Pro Tools Intro / Artist / Studio / Ultimate™)
Melodyne ARA will now automatically analyze content on tick-based tracks when instantiated.
Audio will be conformed to tempo and meter changes by Melodyne on tick-based tracks.

Easier Automation Selection and Editing

(Pro Tools Intro / Artist / Studio / Ultimate™)
Tab to breakpoints in automation lanes.
A new preference to select between automation breakpoints when double clicking with the selector tool.

Edit Group Improvements

(Pro Tools Intro / Artist / Studio / Ultimate™)
Optionally include rulers in Edit Groups, including the ‘ALL’ group.
Easier access to the ‘ALL’ group through the Modify Groups window.

MIDI Editor Scrolling Improvements

(Pro Tools Intro / Artist / Studio / Ultimate™ - macOS only)
MIDI Editor scrolling options are available during playback.
“Follow Edit Window” is on by default.

Bounce to M4a (AAC)

(Pro Tools Intro / Artist / Studio / Ultimate™ - macOS only)
Bounce high quality AAC compressed audio directly from the timeline.

Quantize Controls in Toolbar Enhancements

(Pro Tools Intro / Artist / Studio / Ultimate™)
Toggle on/off the two main parameters right in the Toolbar Quantize Controls without having to open Event Operations.
The “advanced options” (gear) button now separately indicates advanced options enabled state (amber LED) and the Event Operations window open state (blue button).

Pro Tools | Sync X Video Generator Follows 10 MHz Clock

(Pro Tools Ultimate™)
This will actually be the last new version of PT Ultimate for me, at least for a while. The support plan runs out at the end of the month, and the updates just aren't worth $399pa (a bit less on a deal). I have an unused reinstatement license good to go, and I'm just gonna wait til I actually have a solid reason to update. The only plugin I regularly used from the rental freebies was X-Form for TC/E editing, but I bought a permanent élastique Pro V3 license for that. I don't think the new bundled élastique algorithm for elastic audio works on TC/E, could be wrong. If it does I wasted £120 or so! élastique is considerably better quality than X-Form.

Cubase uses some form of Elastique, yes?

It does - I find it very good. Not sure if it's v3 or not.

The stock algorithms in Pro Tools were absolutely dreadful. They bundle X-Form with a subscription or support plan and that's better, but still not nearly as good as elastique.

BTW it looks like it's NOT available in TC/E (the mouse-driven simple dragging to extend / shorten clips), only Elastic Audio (the more complex manipulation of hitpoints and pitch/tempo tweaks).

I find it surprisingly good when changing tempo of a project.
Pitch and time improved dramatically as of Cubase 6.

Again, agreed - I only embarrassingly recently discovered I could just change the pitch of a while project at a stroke. Works great.

You could do it in Cubase 5-but it sucked. It’s genius now comparatively.
